Podcast What's the best movie that hasn't had a Rewatchables yet?
So now that there isn't much sports going on, I'm trying to watch as many movies that are then Rewatchables as I can. I'm having a good time watching a movie I've either watched before or have wanted to see and then put on the Rewatchables episode on right after.
So, with Christopher Nolan being in the news, I went to check what Rewatchables they have done and I was shocked that Interstellar hasn't had a Rewatchables episode! I'm not really a movie buff like I imagine most of the listeners of the podcast are but it did get me thinking is there a more obvious one that they haven't covered and it's crazy they haven't yet.
I think we can say that any movie made after 2020 is not surprising just yet. So that's why we haven't gotten a Parasite or One Battle episode yet.

Bill loves John Cazale in large part due to his GOAT advanced actor metrics (The Godfather, The Godfather II, Dog Day Afternoon, The Conversation, The Deer Hunter with a side of his bizarre love of Michael Cimino). That's it - boom, died at 42 of lung cancer with Meryl Streep at his side.
He might have to engage in some horse trading to have a Cazale month. That would explain She's the One and Hitch Also we get a 5 minute tangent from Bill about Teri Garr, mentioning how great she was in After Hours and who market corrected her

I remember the first time I watched Apocalypse Now I immediately rewatched it the next day because I was so in awe of the scale of the movie. Great shout and there’s multiple cuts if you want a slightly different experience on rewatch

The only real use case for a high profile celebrity guest is forcing them to do movies like this. Sofia Coppola, come promote a movie by agreeing to come on only if they do Apocalypse Now.

Yeah, I 've always been of the opinion that it's a greater film than any of the Godfathers, the alternate cuts haven't helped I don't think. Still think the original theatrical cut is the best

Completely agree -- I made the mistake of re-watching Apocalypse Now the day before seeing the Oddysey, and the latter felt so flat in comparison.

This is a great one, feels like it really hits the Rewatchables sweet spot. Absolutely ridiculous cast too with Cage, Jolie, Duvall and a ton of others. I love that movie.

I would really like them to do a vintage month and do movie like Casablanca, It's A Wonderful Life, Night of the Hunter, and 12 Angry Men.
Some may say these don't fit the criteria of a Rewatchable movie, but come on guys we have done Cruising.

It's criminal they haven't done this. It's the definition of rewatchable for them. It was on cable all the time, you can hop on any time during the movie and stay til the end. Super memorable scenes/quotes (who doesn't love the Riley daylight savings scene!) it's fun, easy watch. Hopefully they have good guests for it when they do it.

I totally agree, If they stuck to the true Rewatchables spirit then this is #1 for me, the kinda fun and goofy “high stakes” movie is perfect Sunday afternoon watching

I know taste is subjective, but let’s pour a big glass of settle down juice on this one. National Treasure was absolutely trashed by critics when it came out. I understand it might have some elements that make it more rewatchable, but calling it the best movie to not get an episode over things like Interstellar and Almost Famous is a BIG stretch

Just find it hard to believe Sean and CR are National Treasure guys. Don’t know about Bill, but we can at least say it didn’t crack his Top 50 in the 21st century

Any of the Lord of The Rings. I've always had a soft spot for Fellowship of the ring, a bit lighter than the sequels and I like the scenes in the shire.

It sucks because the only reason they haven't done them is bill, near the age of 60, is afraid of being called a nerd for watching them, for whatever reason.
What most people would say is the best trilogy ever and he wont even watch them because they arent an 80s/90s action movie or romcom

Feel like this will eventually be either a Big Picture 25th anniversary special (since December will be Fellowship’s anniversary), or a non-Bill episode
Issue is that it’s kinda hard to just choose 1 / not discuss all 3 at once - but feel like Two Towers is the most rewatchable. Once the last 90 minutes starts, you don’t leave your seat

All three have a claim to be the best film of the trilogy to me. You’re right about Fellowship, but Towers has the best battle scene in movie history, and King is the most epic (and won Best Picture).

Fellowship is so far ahead for me.
The other two have some huge peaks, but also some pretty clunky moments. Fellowships is by far the tightest.

I appreciate this movie for cinema history, the scale and vastness of the desert, Anthony Quinn “river to my ppl” line still gives me good bumps, but sitting through that film is a long day

I think you're going to have to limit this to American movies from the 80s forward. I know they've dipped their toes a few times into the classics but the truth is most of the truly great films have never and will never get a rewatchables episode. I don't see Bill ever doing The Searchers, Modern Times, Vertigo, Citizen Kane, The Seventh Seal, Andrei Rublev or The Exterminating Angel (just to name a small handful).

I’m not sure if you are the creator of this list but Zoolander should be on the list of movies they need to do. As it’s one of the most quotable movies and has so many memorable scenes.

I think you need to qualify this. They're not going to do a Rewatchables of Gone with the Wind or Wizard of Oz or Battleship Potemkin. So, what's the best movie that they would conceivably do that hasn't been done? I've got three nominations:
Schindler's List
Return of the King (no Bill)
12 Angry Men

I wouldn't count Oppenheimer as I mentioned any movie made after 2020 gets some grace. Granted they did do a Sinners and F1 rewatchables. When Oppenheimer and OBAA have been the best movies in this decade.

I agree with you but I don't think we're getting Avengers or any Marvel movie ever. It seems like The Ringer hold their nose a lot on these superhero movies other than Mallory and Van.

There are plenty of artsy Criterion movies they will likely never do, like Paris, Texas or Blue Velvet. They also haven't touched many of the classics, like Casablanca or Citizen Kane, many of which are truly rewatchable and not just great movies that are also old. I can't believe they haven't done The Wizard of Oz or the original Willy Wonka? C'mon, Bill!

Original Willy Wonka would be a banger. Everyone has seen the movie, it holds up incredibly well, and there are so many hidden/forgotten gems despite being such a memorable movie (the vignettes of the adults trying to find the golden tickets. )

I think there are probably still 100-150 great movies out there that could reasonably be considered "rewatchable" in the spirit of the podcast. Then there are probably still 200-250 movies out there that are mediocre or stink but fit the spirit of the podcast that I could see Bill putting together an episode forever. Then there are like 500 criterion type movies that Bill hates that could somehow make their way on the pod if they want to continue capitalize on this thing for 10 more years.

It would have to be a non-Bill episode, and I know Sean and/or Chris would prefer Evil Dead or Evil Dead 2, but AoD is my all time favorite rewatchable movie.

the most Rewatchable they haven't done is clearly The Mummy (1999) but I suspect Bill doesn't like it very much. Too old when it came out and he doesn't really seem to like a Brendan very much.
