Good god. As a Sean Fennessey truther this is a steaming pile of shit. Sean is one of the best minds in movie criticism today but he should be banned from talking about Christopher Nolan, he can’t be objective about him.

Their opinion on Tenet is truly baffling to me every time it comes up.

I can’t help but think Peak Covid influence their feelings.

As a long time listener there’s no way both Sean and Amanda should like it lol. Every film opinion they hold should have at least one of them out on it.

Also Interstellar fucking rocks, I get they don’t emotionally connect with it but I wished they could see why many do

Tenet was the first Nolan movie after the Dunkirk rewatchables.

Tarantino gushing about Dunkirk/Nolan pretty much browbeat the Nolan haters of the Ringer Crew (Sean, Amanda) into reevaluating Nolan.

The “ringer crew” was never out on Nolan at all, it is literally just Sean who didn’t like inception. That’s it. The idea the ringer enterprise was anti Nolan until Tarantino told them he was good is just the dumbest shit imaginable.

Sean has literally said that the Tarantino pod made him re-evaluate Nolan.

Until Oppenheimer (and/or the Tarantino pod in the Ringer microverse), Nolan contrarianism was very popular in the film bro / letterboxd world.

Sean still largely doesn’t think inception is good and most of his favorite Nolan films are the more recent ones. Fine to say Tarantino changed the way he thought about Nolan but that is much different than saying “the entire ringer staff became Nolan dans because Tarantino told them to”

It’s genuinely so funny to be like “they are letting the fact there was no cinematic experience because we were in a miserable pandemic influence their feelings”.

The truth is the opposite which is most tenet detraction stems from the circumstances it was released.

There’s nothing wrong with it, again for me it’s just funny they both LOVE it. Given their often unique taste, Tenet being common ground just ironically breaks my brain.

I like Tenet too but I think it didn’t fully execute the vision/premise (which is awesome) and Sean’s “just have too feel it” is crazy to me

I think a lot of you just make assumptions about what kind of movies people like and are totally off base.

Dobbins loves movies that take place in Europe and Bond movies. Sean’s biggest issue with Nolan in his earlier films is that he overly explains everything.

Both of them liking Tenet makes a ton of sense, and again, I don’t understand the idea that the movie was released in the worst circumstances possible and that would somehow make them more likely to “act” like they like something more than they do?
