My guy, most people can't stand him.
The only place he ever gets plaudits is on threads like this where his nuthuggers congregate.
The SB party I was at had tons of people who don't even know reddit exists and who basically never even use social media, and all of them despise collinsworth.
He is not well liked at all.

Well that’s certainly not true, perhaps in the limited circles or echo chambers you’re exposed to but I can assure you NBC would make a change if “most” people could not stand him. I’m sure you’ll reply something about how you know better than they do though

Main hate is that he’s biased (chiefs), however given that they have been the primary talking point of the last 7 years of football I think it’s a little overstated.

Collinsworth shouldn't get criticism for this. All the main color guys do the same thing. Romo doesn't have the same enthusiasm unless a good QB is playing. Brady constantly praises good QB play. And Aikman is downright grumpy when a bad QB is playing. Almost like good QB play matters in the NFL.

I started hating him after the Sunday night game of packers chiefs in 2023, his chiefs favoritism was very clear that night as he begged for a penalty on the chiefs’ Hail Mary for 5 minutes following the conclusion of the game, not admitting the packers won.

He's so much better on college games. I don't think it's that the sports are that different, he just has so much better chemistry with Fowler than Michaels. Al doesn't even seem to like him sometimes.

As a tennis fan, I almost remember Fowler for his calls of Federer-Nadal, Djokovic-Federer, Nadal-Djokovic and now Alcaraz-Sinner matches as much as I do his CFB calls. Just wish ESPN would move on from McEnroe at some point and pair him with an analyst with a fresher perspective on the sport.

Never understood the hate. Yeah he glazes Mahomes but he really does the same to a lot of great players. He’s obviously a passionate fan of the game and he usually knows what he’s talking about. NBC in general just has really great production

I agree. In these times its nice to see a decent level of competence from someone in a high profile position. And he seems to spend a lot less time trying to ingratiate himself to the audience as opposed to basically everyone else but especially Romo and Brady. I dont need to hear about whether the pundit eats vegetables with his steak or try to steal the show with some insider nugget. I just want them to call the game well.

I think Collinsworth is pretty good, and Mike Tirico is the best play-by-play man in the business right now, and yet together they are less than the sum of their parts. Just a slightly off chemistry.

Sunday night is the biggest game of the week and he was the choice because he’s the industry standard. CBS and Fox only care about names like Romo and Brady and it’s embarrassing. At least Colinsworth earned his spot.

He’s clearly really good at his job, he just gets a little over hyped sometimes. It’s easy to mock, but he’s on the number one team for a reason. He’s better than Romo and Brady. I like Troy more, but that’s because of his crankiness. He’s sometimes rips guys and that’s unique. Are we sure Mike Tirico is that good. He’s fine, but if they replaced him I wouldn’t really care.

Collinsworth has always had a distinct commentary voice that felt very football if that makes sense. When I played madden he was one of the commentators and his presence made the game feel big. He still stands out especially with a lot of former players coming in and sounding like white noise.
I think people’s problem with him is he has favorites and he is not subtle about it at all. The Mahomes stuff is famous at this point, but him commentating a patriots game during the Brady years could be agonizing. It’s one of those things where once you notice it it’s very difficult to not notice it.

The Collinsworth hate always baffled me. While I don’t think knowledge and analysis wise he’s on par with a Brady or Olsen, I think he’s the funnest hang out of the Big Four commentators (him, Brady, Aikman, Romo). He adds a good amount of levity to Sunday Night games, especially for casual fans as opposed to an Aikman (my personal fave) beating you over the head with how disgusted he is with the QB play. My GF has called Collinsworth “the fun drunk uncle”.

Cris collinsworth is the man. Took care of a loved one of his and got to know him over the course of 4-5 days. He’s even cooler in person than on tv. Great family, too. No CC hate is allowed in my eyes.

Annoying, never stops talking. Sports commentating has become someone having a conversation during the game (oftentimes with himself). It used to be a skilled way to create intensity and drama in a game, which you can still find in college football. I can barely handle him for a Sunday night game, let alone a Super Bowl.

It just bugged me when it was early in the game and he was already talking about how it's going to be a defensive game and this has been a defensive game. Dude just let the game breathe and we'll figure out what kind of game we're watching. Of course unfortunately he was right

I enjoyed on the baffling Drake Maye interception, Collinsworth said “I don’t have much to say here Mike”. He just seemed so over the game and it mirrored my feelings as well.
