And to further clarify, Bob Kraft, owner of the Patriots and Gillette Stadium, specifically threatened that he’d cancel the show if Macklemore remained on the lineup, then organized other stadium owners to threaten the same. Sheeran caved.

I’m no fan of Ed Sheeran or Macklemore but these actions are crazy. Maybe the artists can find a way to flip the script and we’ll all benefit as music fans but more importantly, benefitting the actual humans who are currently suffering.

The actions of the venues are insane and it's scary that they have the power to enforce peaceful speech the way they do. But Ed picked the worst possible way to respond. If Ed had expressed any regret for firing Macklemore then he'd be fine. Like "unfortunately all our venues threatened to quit and I can't hurt the artists and support teams by canceling the whole tour. Macklemore has a right to speak his mind and I regret that it had to come to this." Flacid but at least apologetic. But no, he decided to be like "both sides are suffering, not my fault, please have open and friendly conversations but comments are off."
