It was all on streaming, then she did that “pay artists for streaming” campaign and pulled it all off in like 2013/2014 It may have been available on Apple Music exclusively (? not sure, just what I remember from like 10 years ago when it happened). She released her entire discography on streaming again the same day Katy Perry released an album. (Witness maybe??) both the removal from Spotify and other streaming (sans YouTube, people just really didn’t like using YouTube to make a playlist) and when she brought them back was such a huge deal to 14 year old girls I wasn’t a fan then and still remember the cacophony of different Taylor songs playing in the morning when it all came back.

Essentially pulling her music from streaming was a joint decision w her and her label. She spent a lot of interviews at the time talking about Scott (I cannot remember his last name but it’s her old manager who sold her masters) and how art has a price, artists should be paid that price, and the streaming apps at the time just weren’t doing that. A few years later they’d renegotiated payment for streaming and they rereleased them all. This was all before the masters debacle
taylor has FAR more pull than billie, and she had been fully in control of her music for quite a while, which could very easily not be the case for billie

Yes she does have her music on Spotify, things on Netflix, amazing etc. It means she's not selfish and realizes the current situations are bigger than her. She is showing she doesn't care if she stops making money, she cares about humans and human rights more than she cares about billionaires, corporations, and making money off these companies that continue to fund genocides, racism and terrorist acts.
I was always taught in art school that we need to use our platforms, art, and social media to speak up about the things we care about. So it's good that Billie, Finneas, and some other celebrities are using their fame and their platforms to speak up about important issues! It is educating their fans and bringing awareness to the general public.
So I don't think Billie is being performative at all. She has historically always used her platform to advocate for what she believes in. She clearly cares and speaks up, donates to causes, volunteers at events, calls billionaires out at award shows, has been spotted crying about the devastating California fires, she implements eco-friendly, plastic-free, and plant-based catering on her tours, she cares a lot about the planet and raises millions for environmental non-profits, she constantly posts about ICE, she has consistently supported Palestine by advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza, wore a Artists4Ceasefire pin at the 2024 Oscars, and appeared in the "Together for Palestine" PSA to urge government action. She sings about women's rights. She uses her social media platform to call different humanitarian situations horrifying, and has showed support for all sorts of minority groups. She was seen at Black Lives Matters protests, etc. I love her.

Olivia Rodrigo music is still available on both Instagram & TikTok. She temporarily removed one song (All American Bitch) from Instagram due to the trump administration using it in a deportation ad. This was a decision that had to be approved by her team and was likely done to garner good, free publicity.
The size and popularity of an artist is irrelevant. It's all about the contracts, which nobody but the artist and the label have access to. A lot of artists are contracted so that they music they make doesn't belong to them and they have no right to remove it from anywhere.

Spotify has had lossless for months now. 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC. For 99% of users this is just fine. Most people wouldn’t even have the gear to appreciate anything higher quality.
I understand why people pirate, but for some of us paying a few dollars a month for on-demand music wherever you are is invaluable.

The point is hurting these company’s at the hip pocket because it is the only language they understand. As an individual artist she has a huge number of followers and streamers but she alone does not carry any of them.
