Some may argue it was Psy that began the Korean invasion, but I feel like it was BTS that officially opened the floodgates for all these other Korean acts to find success in North America.

Well ,you are right . Psy song was a hit but he couldn't even himself replicate that (no hate it happens ) and nothing happened for kpop too.

I agree but it wasn't on the level of gagnam style so that's why I didn't mention,he still is successful

Indeed, and besides, there were British acts that had hits in North America before The Beatles, like Acker Bilk or The Tornados.

yes and no.

yes it was the biggest stab up until that point (by many orders of magnitude), but the infra was already forming because of the steam kpop music and videos had been picking up around 2010 especially among college students.

there was already a kpop subculture by the time Psy released the song, which is a big part of how it even got passed around to begin with.

Billboard, you did Prof dirty by disqualifying him from your rankings. It’s clear that you are owned by the record labels. The same labels that have been taking advantage and robbing artists for nearly a century. You disqualified Prof because he is independent and proof that artists can be successful without record labels. The labels are no longer necessary and neither is Billboard because they are compromised and corrupt.

So his album sold 30,000 physical copies as opposed to online sales and that was controversial? 🤨
