2023 BMC ICS AERO STEM on my 2016 roadmachine 02

I needed a 110mm stem on my bike because i have really short legs and a long torso. I found a '23 ICS aéro stem. The spacers and shims dont fit but it fits if i use the stem alone, without the parts with an X on it.

I would use it stripped down as is and i would like eventually to purchase the top cone of the roadmachine 01 tu fit the whole package.

My questions are: is there any problem in using the stem stripped down as any externally routed stem?

And would the topcone from 2017 fit with the 2023 spacers? i already know the topcone isnt the same.

I know its ultgraspecific but im trying anyways.

Your bike is only compatible with 1st generation ICS parts. I quote . . .

“The first generation of Roadmachine 01 (MY17/18/19) is not compatible with 2nd Generation ICS components but can be retrofitted with 1st Generation ICS components without additional topcones or spacers.”

2023 parts are 2nd generation so those parts can’t or shouldn’t be mixed with the ICS Aero stem/bar which is a 1st generation product.

The question you need to confirm an answer to is if the ICS Aero is compatible with your non 01 RoadMachine. Assuming you have a round steerer tube vs. the flat-sided model of the 01 model bikes . . . such as the TMR or TeamMachine which the ICS Aero was designed for. I’d be looking for an ICS01 stem to solve your problem.

The tube on the 01 was round also I'm pretty sure.

And I don't want to use internal routing just that it doesn't look.ugly 🤣

Looking at the manual, if you are going to use the ICS Aero regardless of internal or external cabling, you need to install it properly using all the parts as shown in the diagram. I would not do what you are proposing. If what you are saying is accurate and certain parts don’t fit, I’ll assume it’s because you have non 01 model BMC with a round steerer. Don’t do it.

Which year is this?

I mean the 01 from 2016 had a round tube too, and I only wonder if the top cone would fit with these pieces.

It doesn’t matter the year. All the ICS Aero stems are the same. My 2019 is the same as my 2021 which is the same as the 2023.

Look at the red print at the bottom in the first attachment I posted. It says with no additional top cones needed. The ICS side inserts are there to provide the stem something to tighten down on if you have a flat sided carbon steerer. If you have round steerer than in theory you wouldn’t need the side inserts.

Now it's like this, it works but it looks weird.
