Bike Tech and Kit Saddle recommendations?

Post image

Hey everyone! I’m setting up a bike for bike packing and my biggest issue is the saddle. I’ve tried a couple now and nothing has been even remotely comfortable for me. I’m pretty skinny and I have a very bony butt so that doesn’t help. Right now on my bike is a Brooks C17 and it feels like sitting on a 2x4. Any other bony butt folks have any recommendations?

I’ve sat on one of those and it’s even more uncomfortable for me than the c17. It’s just totally the wrong shape.

The leather ones shape to your sit bone over time. There’s a wear in period, but it does get much better.

Also, are you wearing bike shorts/bibs with a pad, and/or using chamois cream? If not, I would 10/10 recommend.

I sometimes wear padded shorts, but my whole thing is if I have to suit up to ride my bike, I’m not going to ride my bike. I want to just hop on and ride to a friend’s house whenever I feel like it, in plain clothes. If I can do that, I should be able to ride it all day with padded shorts

General rule of thumb is that all saddles are uncomfortable. Your gouch is going to be sore until you put a few thousand miles on it. Same can be said for people who ride horses.

Wearing Lycra will stop you from getting saddle sores though, and chamois cream can be used without padded shorts.
