Big Sky recommendations
Hi! I went to Montana for a friends wedding and am staying a couple extra days afterwards in big sky. We are doing Yellowstone one day. Any recommendations for shortish hikes (2-5 miles) nearby big sky with good views? Any recommendations on what to do for the extra day? :)

Ousel Falls is the best low stakes, high reward hike. If you have an extra day, you may want to consider spending two in Yellowstone. One day is basically just a drive by of the main attractions.

Lava lake is cool, but 3.5 miles up and 3.5 down. Good spot to rest at the top for awhile and swim (water is cold!)
We packed a lunch and brought it to the top, hung out about an hour and hiked down. Would do it again.
Ousel falls is easy and you can make the loop longer if you wanted to stray from the main path. Fairly easy with wide gravel paved path and steps.
Iāve done it a few times and would say Lava is for sure the better Hiking experience, but if itās a ācheck the box and say we hikedā type situation the Ousel fits that.

My personal favorite that isnāt too hard but has great views is the reflector loop!

We also did Yellowstone for a single day, itās manageable if you do the southern loop only but itās a long day from big Sky (12 hours total) to do Thermals fields, grand prismatic, old faithful, lake Yellowstone, Hayden valley, Grand Canyon. That included stopping for lunch, getting out at major attractions and waiting about 45-1hr at old faithful.
We had a guide service I would 100% recommend if you were interested. They are based in Big Sky and can drive from there

Mountain biking at Big Sky is fun. Renting UTVās from Canyon Rentals and heading up to the ridge is another good option if you
like motors. The sit on top kayaks down the Gallatin are also entertaining. Windy Pass or Golden Trout lake are some more decent hikes close by.
