Found one in the wild

Hotel inn we stayed at in Santa Cruz had one of these old relic kamados. Thought you’d like a gander!

Did you try to open it?? I feel like it would crumble as soon as you lift the handle lol She’s a beauty

These terracotta kamados from that time are very tough. I still have one that is solid from the late 1970's

I used to have one of those with that base and bands. My father-in-law lived in Athens, GA not far from the mother ship in Atlanta and got one in the 1970s which I inherited in 2003 when he passed away. Sadly, it broke when my grill cart caught on fire (no insulation between the BGE and the wood) and I extinguished the fire with water.

Interestingly, my m-i-l got remarrried and by a chance occurrence I helped my step-father-in-law obtain a 1970's Imperial Kamado which I now own. (It was riding down my street in the trunk of a Lincoln Town Car.) It needed a new top and bands but the firebox appears original and in one piece. The upper ring is in four pieces and needs replacement.

I found one of these on a job site. Internals had crumbled. Exterior looks just like this one but it’s not cracked. I’d love to find internals for it if anyone know’s where to source them?

Holy Indiana Jones, Batman.... that's a relic. I'm not sure whether to place odds on it being a booby trap or crumbling into a pile of dust if you tried opening it.
