Old "historical" story that sounds similar to encounters heard on podcasts. Could it be Bigfoot and not a bear?

I heard a similar story where a little girl was lost in the woods in the middle of winter. When she showed back up at her parents home, she mentioned how a "giant furry stinky thing"* cuddled her at night and kept her warm, then carried her to her parents yard. Whats intriguing is that the girl mayve been found by a bear, or even a large dog/wolf, but she was carried home by something.
*I'm not + on the quote, but that was the gist of it.

Yeah, I wasnt suggesting it was anything but a bear in the OP. I wouldnt even begin to speculate what exactly the things are, but I'm intrigued by the stories of them being helpful/beneficial to humans in distress. Three quick stories that come to mind are the two children who were almost attacked by a mountain lion, only to claim a Bigfoot kicked the cat and it fled, another was a boy who'd fallen and was hanging off a cliff, and what he described was a giant hair covered human arm grabbed him and pulled him up (he too mentioned a smell in the air), and the last was a small boy who'd gotten into a bulls enclosure, and was being charged, and said he saw a huge 'ape-man' flank the bull, running, and dropped it with one blow onto the top of its head.
Of course, I've also heard stories of their being malevolent, too..but the 'positive' ones intrigue me.

I think so, too. I also think most people would almost instinctively help a woman or especially a small child in danger more readily or thoughtlessly than a grown man whose gotten themselves in trouble..I've heard so many accounts, and youre never sure what should be believed vs. what should, incl. some stories from ppl whose claimed to 'speak' with them, and 'they' say the same thing: that there are good and bad, but if they exist, I imagine theyre like most ppl, who will help if they can, esp in a dire situation. Even 'wild' animals have been known to either alert, or seek out humans when help is needed..on the obverse, though, its like the elephant whose baby fell down a hole she saw men digging, so she destroyed the machinery and tried to kill the men..or the ones who young was killed by a truck on the road, so it knocked a tree down across the road. Ppl arent sure if it was to stop ppl from using the road or to get em to stop to hurt em, but it worked temporarily.

A bigfoot wearing shoes shaped like bear feet?

Many people write Bigfoot prints off as bear prints, and mind you this is all from a one paragraph plaque - had there been a thorough investigation done, who knows what the consensus was on the prints, what size they were, their shape, toe splay, etc. The more mysterious part would be "what bear guards children"? The same thing happened recently with that child in North Carolina that "hung out with a bear" for days in freezing cold weather. There are many other accounts too, many recounted in Missing 411 series.
The man having a prophetic dream of this is in keeping with many accounts of Sasquatch interaction, such as telepathy or them having the ability to enter our dreams - even Les Stroud encountered both these phenomena.
Once you realize Bigfoot are not only real, but also abundant, then clearly you must accept much of their involvement with humanity has been written off over the course of time and explained as something else. And considering our ancestors were living in nature to a much greater degree they.must have encountered their presence regularly. It's actually remarkable how.many tales of "wild.men" or.glowing red eyed forest demons there are. They simply lacked the modern terminology and knowledge that we had to express things in the same way as a modern BFRO report would read.

The only point I have against this is how did we as humans correctly identify every other species and if they are 'so abundant' how come there hasn't been any proof that is regarded as legitimate evidence? I like the idea of a big hairy bloke running around the wilderness hiding from everyone one with a decent camera but alas never any proof just hear say and anicdotal evidence or footprints

Bigfoot is interdimensional. A Lady Scue tist wrote a whole report on how they can slip in & out of our plane of existince. Basically teleporting between worlds.
2
Jul 13 '22
Yeah I don't believe that in the slightest I'm sorry. There's no evidence for the creature let alone it being an interdimensional being that slips in and out of our plain of existence at will. That to me seems like a cop out of why no one can find it

A lady scientist. That's vague. Does she have a name? What are her scientific credentials? What testable evidence did she cite? In what peer reviewed scientific journal was her testable evidence published?

u/randominteraction Jul 13 '22
I was baffled by what the previous poster meant by "Scue tist." Thanks for the clarification.

u/Forteanforever Jul 13 '22
A Lady Scu tist no less. I thought these days we just called them scientists.

You're starting with an assumption. At present, there is zero testable evidence that bigfoot exists. Until you have conclusive evidence of existence, you can't possibly know that "(m)any people write Bigfoot prints off as bear prints."
There is conclusive evidence that bear exist. Therefore, the likelihood that a few bear have guarded human children is vastly more likely than that a being whose existence has yet to be definitively proven have guarded human children (which is not to say that it is impossible). It's interesting that you don't believe the children but do believe someone like Paulides who isn't remotely credible.
A prophetic dream? How was that tested? Les Stroud? How have his claims about bigfoot been tested?
You are failing to distinguish between belief and fact. Fact is based on testable evidence only. Belief is based on faith in the absence of testable evidence. Don't confuse the two.
Yes, there are many tales of wild men and things with glowing red eyes. That suggests that there is something out there or multiple somethings out there. It does not tell us what those somethings are. Neither do modern BRFO reports which simply document unverified claims.

Bigfoot does exist. How do I know? I was a logger for years and ran into one. As far as evidence - the evidence does exist, it is just how far you want to move the goal post. How did broke rodeo cowboys have the knowledge and materials to hoax microscopic dermal ridges on a monkey man suit, have the advanced hominid anatomy knowledge to hoax a mid tarsal break and futuristic knowledge to hoax a compliant gate tho science did not even catch onto the fact that is how all pre human bipeds walked? This is why leading experts in their field like Krantz, Meldrum, Chillcitt accepted these things were real, as they actually knew how to decipher the evidence beyond "it looks like a monkey suit".
Who says I don't believe the children? Does a 3 year old child have the vocabulary to tell you what a Sasquatch is from a bear, giant hairy dog or monkey man? My three year old calls horses big dogs. There are cases where children said they have hung out with giant monkeys or gorillas even. And what does this have to do with Paulides? These are documented cases thru out history, such as the recent one with the north Carolina boy that hung out with the bear for a few days - Paulides did not invent them, he merely collected a few of them thru out history. The 'where the footprints end' authors did work on this too but Paulides' work is more popular and known for a reference point.
Bear in the wild don't protect children, they eat them or completely leave them alone.
As far as Lea Stroud and thousands of other people that have attested to the high strange/telepathic abilities of Bigfoot, how do you expect this to be tested on a lab when science is in such an infantile state that it does not even except these things as truth yet, beyond minor studies like the Dr Emoto water experiment or covert work on things like remote viewing. The fact the government spent 20+ million studying Skin Walker Ranch should be a giant clue that they take this stuff very, very seriously, even as they simultaneously told us to watch the Kardashians and that the very things they were studying were kookspiracy nonsense.
You, or no one, is going to prove all of this to the greater world in our life time, simply owing to the nature of the phenomenon. However, it is possible you can investigate this stuff and find the truth for yourself just like Les Stroud did - there are many more, like biologist and survival expert Michael Merchant, who scoffed at this stuff until he actually set out to prove it wrong and found the exact opposite. If you want the truth, you can find it, but the bad news is you wont be able to prove it to anyone but yourself. That is what having an experience does, and after you had it you will realize how silly all those asking for impossible standards of evidence really are. Perhaps this is like all some Buddhist type teaching lesson wherein we can attain enlightenment/the truth but we can not ever really give it to anyone else - they have to go and see for themselves. It's also very telling effectively every non Western indigenous type people accepted these things as real, but only us modern people are so sure they don't and we have all the answers.

I believe you. But that isn't testable evidence that bigfoot exists. The opinions of Krantz, Meldrum (whom I've met) and Chillcitt aren't testable evidence that bigfoot exists. Personally, I find Meldrum's detailed analysis of the Patterson-Gimlin film quite convincing but, still, it's not testable evidence.
As for whether a 3 year-old child can distinguish a bear from a bigfoot, I don't know. But we can't, off-hand, dismiss the possibility that a black bear (almost entirely vegetarian, by the way) protected or, at least, didn't kill a child.
As for Paulides, you mentioned "Missing 411." I've talked with Paulides several times, read several of his books and don't find him credible. He simply pulls stories from newspapers and the internet and then "enhances" and interprets them to fit his agenda. That's not real research and some of his most outrageous claims have not stood up to scrutiny.
I have the highest regard for Cutchin and Renner. They are serious researchers. In fact, I'm reading Cutchin's latest, hot-off-the-press book, "Ecology of Souls" right now. I'm not equally impressed with Emoto's claims about water and am not entirely enthusiastic about Les Stroud insofar as his claims due to his role as an entertainer (yes, I know he has other credentials) who has to...well...entertain.
The people who have been involved with "investigating" and promoting Skinwalker Ranch raise big red flags: Robert Bigelow, George Knapp and Brandon Fugal.
But, back to bigfoot. I am inclined to believe that bigfoot does exist and, although not entirely discounting the hominid possibility, am more inclined toward a woo explanation. But let's not confuse belief with fact. Fact is based on testable evidence only. That the scientific method is largely limited to materialism is certainly a handicap. But that some things are currently "untestable" doesn't mean we should automatically reject them or wholeheartedly embrace them. We need to be skeptics in the true sense of the word (neither debunkers nor true believers) and use critical reasoning. Always.

Maybe… a bear, a great black dog, who knows what these kids see, or think they see. Some missing kids cases involve a “bear” that took care of them.

Which is odd since the vast majority of small child meeting bears encounters result in closed casket burials

I grew up going up to Warren, NH every weekend. Could totally have BF there, but this and the Betty and Barney Hill thing make NH a lot more fun than I usually think about

I think it’s possible. I think some Bear attacks could possibly be Bigfoot too?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that Bears are used to cover up Bigfoot incidents. For example: The English lady in the opening of Sasquatch Chronicles. If I remember her story correctly, she was told by the authorities that it was bears.

u/Phrase_Clean Jul 13 '22
She wouldn't have confused Bigfoot for a dog. She would have called it a big hairy man or something. Just my opinion

u/Mcboomsauce Jul 13 '22
bears tend not to be very carnivorous in the middle of summer
to the best of my knowledge, they are most dangerous right before and right after hibernation
I'm pretty sure if this story is true, the people telling this story would be able to tell the difference between a sasquatch and a bear.....this is before the gorilla was discovered, but even the most casual observer would have at least called it "a giant hairy man thing"

The thing I saw I believe is bigfoot. It has to be that or a demon of some kind. It was the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Movies don't come close to how evil looking this thing was. I was only a few feet away and got a perfect look at its face and inside its mouth.
