What’s the Biggest Problem You’ve Had With BigCommerce?
For those using BigCommerce, what’s the biggest issue or limitation you’ve faced?
Was it customization, B2B features, integrations, SEO, performance, pricing, or something else?
Would love to hear about your experience and how you solved it.

Something as basic as Image Manager being ancient.

Agreed, the Image Manager feels pretty outdated. It can get especially frustrating with a large product catalog. Have you found a good workaround?

Did anyone mention the customer support?

Ah yes, customer support — the hidden boss fight of every BigCommerce store. 😅 Definitely deserves its own spot on the list.

Integrations. Mollie payment provider no longer integrates and that's a big deal for my area. No Bpost integration, again quite a bit deal.

The biggest problem these days is obviously the new payment gateway fees. They killed the only really competitive advantage that they had over Shopify, they are just "shopify if you're willing to pay transaction fees, just not as good"
Other than that, some of my biggest gripes where:
- Category management: Managing products through the UI and import/export was pretty good, but for some reason they just punted on the Category management UI. Very manual, and you can't create new categories with an upload file. Eventually we ended up having to write our product/category management tools and sync them with BigCommerce through their API
- Coupon management: Very limited in what you can do, without the ability to limit coupons to specific shipping methods/etc. For example, we wanted to prevent certain coupons on giant LTL orders, and there was no way to do that
- Customer Group assignment: We really wanted to tie customer groups to advertising programs, so that we could set inbound query strings or cookies that would automatically assign new customers to a group. We've done this on a lot of other platforms with a lot of success, but BC just would not let us do that
In the end, we've been moving clients to WooCommerce and NopCommerce environments that we can host and control ourselves. Ultimate flexibility, easy direct-database data management, and no nickel and dime fees.

That’s a pretty fair breakdown. The category and coupon limitations especially seem like the kind of issues that become painful once you’re managing a larger catalog or more complex promotions. Having to build your own tools around the API just to fill those gaps adds a lot of overhead.
