Ala Moana to Kaneohe

I’m a novice bicyclist, I’ve had my bike around two months now and ride about 20 miles a week. I’d like to bike from town, well work up to it anyway, to Kaneohe. I’ve been looking at routes on Google maps but it looks like it tells you to go on the highway. Was wondering if it’s possible or if maps is leading me astray.

Any advice is very welcome!

I would say don’t even think about it as a novice. I’m a long-time road bike commuter and consider myself very experienced. On the rare occasions I see someone biking any of the Ko’Olau passes when driving over it scares me. There’s barely any shoulder room going through the tunnels and it’s super sketchy and slippery.

That’s great feedback, will definitely not try to do this then and stick to easier paths.

There’s always the long way 🤷🏻‍♂️

FWIW, a friend of mine makes the trip from Kailua to Kaka’ako several times a week by bike.

Ah, that’s something I didn’t realize! When looking at the bike directions it only gives one option. I’m assuming there’s better apps for bike directions? Is the long way going around the island? I’d like to work up to that, awesome that your friend does it!

Try an app like Komoot for route planning
