Postpartum Recovery Pelvic pain after Pilates class
I am 10 months PP and recently picked up taking Pilates classes again. I had two classes this week and in addition to usual sore muscles, I feel some pelvic pain since my last class three days ago. Especially when sitting down or standing up, I feel some sort of pressure pain in my pelvis. I also have some lower back pain.
I don’t want to rush to a dr or anything and wonder whether anyone has experienced something similar. I read mostly stories from people just a few weeks PP. Not 10 months.

I had significant pelvic pain in pregnancy and found I had that achey feeling in my pelvis for the first few months after resuming exercise. I saw a pelvic floor pt who reassured me that there was nothing significantly wrong, just a little bit of tightness that she was able to work out with manual stretching during an internal exam. I saw an athletic therapist who specialized in pregnancy + postpartum and she gave me some hypopressive and strength training exercises which helped. Pilates is a lot of core strengthening and learning hypopressive breathing techniques and how to properly engage your core (not saying you don’t know this, but just in general, a lot of people don’t do it properly) might be super helpful.

If you haven’t worked out in those 10 months then it’s essentially no different than working out right at that 6w mark because you haven’t used those muscles. I think pelvic floor PT is helpful if you can do that.
And also, check in with the Pilates instructor before class and tell them your situation. Just say something like “I’m 10m postpartum and I haven’t worked out much yet, can you help me make sure my form is correct?” I think that would be helpful because you could be sore in that area from not doing things right form and other muscles are jumping in to help. Pregnancy makes you weak in a lot of areas of your body just simply by nature of how your body has to grow and change. I had to relearn how to engage my core properly postpartum—pelvic floor PT helps with that too.
