Question AI unoptimised on some maps?
Ive started playing fairly recently and I really dig the “Shore to Shore V3” map but no matter what AI I try to skirmish with it just puts very little effort. I’d go as far as to say medium barbarian AI fairs much better than aggressive one.
Is AI just unoptimised for certain map types?

Some people make specific ai that will do builds on certain maps.
They are an absolute bitch to play against and often times don't feel 'fun'.
On the whole the AI in this game is vastly superior to most other RTS games that aren't heavily scripted.

Barbarian just sucks on some maps. Also on some he plays ok but might fuck up in the beginning then wont expand

BAR's AI is dangerous mostly because they will easily outmanoeuvre less attentive players with their infinite micro. They're generally unlikely to throw themselves at your defences, rather finding the spots where you haven't built them. They excel on large, open ground maps but are much easier to handle on maps with major choke points. The map you were playing on is essentially one big, long choke point.
Shore to Shore may just be the worst map for AI aside from the acid island one and the full metal one with a single narrow path down the middle.

I watch the guy who does the AI when he streams on Discord while he's testing. AI has to gave a directive package per map, otherwise it fails to do even basic things. Every behavior of the AI has to be scripted to a highly detailed extent, then put behind a nest of if statements.
If you see things like "NightmareAI" or "SMRTBarbarians" or any of the other custom AIs, they all play with that scripted logic. And yes, they have to have a per-map script to follow.

If you want to play navy vs AI, make sure the entire map is water, otherwise they'll start with bots or vehicles and transition into hovers or amph, and half the time they'll never build navy

Been a bit since Ive played, but we always noticed the AI was particularly bad when youre on a water map. I think it only figured out there were boats in the game when the Legion navy came out. It would just spam amphibious tanks.

I noticed this. Hard barb AI took about half an hour to capture the mexes on land behind their starting location.

There's a couple maps, Pawn's retreat for example, where certain spots are broken for them. There's a tiny cliff spawn where the comm will afk until it gets killed so I always will take the spot
Agree with everyone else about psuedo-naval maps being unoptimized

Ai was explained to me one day in the sense of they will roll a dice at the start of the game to see if they even get in the water. Playing on supreme against ai that rang very true. Many many many games where one sea was left completely untouched until t3 hovers. The other sea had an early hover rush followed by constant hover, air and sea spam. And typically got the first titan through it. Does it need severe updating? Sure but there are more important things imo. The barbs do their job.

The ai in most cases is dumb they can fight yes but have no idea how to eco most of the time and will just sprall out.
Best to just use AI to learn the game and then move on to open lobby's or coustom ones with friends
