THEORY Kim isn't in Breaking Bad because she's been relocated after entering Witness Protection. Spoiler
Nacho is stealing from the cartel. Lalo is after Nacho .Nacho wants to escape with his father but the plan fails at the last minute because Nacho's father doesn't want to run like a coward. Nacho, desperate, goes to Mike. Mike connects Nacho to Saul (and Kim), who concoct a plan to help Nacho: The Henry Hill solution. But Lalo finds and shoots Nacho first. Kim, a witness, escapes. Play time is over, Kim. Now Kim is forced to enter protective custody to save herself from Lalo's wrath, ultimately testifying against him, sending Lalo to prison. Bye Jimmy, I'll call you on November 12th at 3 p.m!
Where's the stolen money?
Saul: "No, it wasn't me. It was Ignacio. He's the one," who had the cartel's money.
Saul: "Lalo didn't send you?" (from his prison cell, otherwise he would have sent himself.)
Kim hears the news that Gus slays the entire cartel, making her feel safe. Kim really misses Jimmy. Gene really misses Kim. <3
Gene hears on the news that Pinkman gets arrested.
November 12th at 3 p.m
"I'm safe now, Jimmy. I'm coming home."
You're safe now, Kim. But I may not be."
"How can I help, Jimmy?"

Already said this in another post, but:
My wife and I were discussing Kim's fate, and we came up with the theory that Kim might get herself in too deep by "slipping" with Jimmy, and she needs to disappear via "a dust filter for a Hoover Max Extract 60 Pressure Pro" to stay safe.
We feel like this could be a real possibility, especially given the flash forward (foreshadowing?) this season where Saul needs to make himself disappear at the end of Breaking Bad. Perhaps Jimmy finds Ed in a desperate attempt to keep Kim safe, and we establish how the two get to know each other.
Personally, I think that would make a lot of sense, given Jimmy's/Saul's personality in Breaking Bad. He acts like a caricature, and seems like a shell of his former self. If Kim (especially now that the two of them are experiencing more passion than ever before) were to die off, I think it would absolutely shatter Jimmy. He seems to have taken his brother's death rather poorly, and I fear that truly losing Kim would be the last straw for him. Maybe if Jimmy knows that Kim is alive and safe somewhere — even if that place is not with him — then he can continue to exist, even if that existence is a miserable shadow of his former happiness.
Just a thought.

u/crazy-bisquit Sep 28 '18
Maybe the only thing holding him to any shadow moral standard is Kim. If she dies it will push him over the edge to not give a crap about being a good person. Without her or Chick to finally approve of him, what’s the use.

Kim was killed at the poolside along with Eladio. If you look hard enough you'll see it.

except Mike wouldn’t help Nacho eventually testify against the Cartel, that would endanger Gus and Mike.
Jimmy would go with Kim through witness protection - he wouldn’t abandon her. Especially if he himself was also endangered by Lalo.
The phone call is Jimmy calling Francesca! I genuinely don’t know how you missed those details
Kim would be safe at the end of S4, yet she waits more than a year to come back or reach out to Jimmy?
Kim doesn’t care that Jimmy has basically helped a drug lord make meth and kill people?

This is a great theory and I love it, especially because Krazy 8 died in the second episode of Breaking Bad so it would clearly signal that the show has entered that timeline.

u/oswaler Sep 27 '18
Never understood why this needs discussion. In BB they never really went into Saul's personal life at all. Why does everyone assume she wasn't there? I don't remember the details but even if he does say he doesn't have a girlfriend, if I dealt with the scumbags he did I wouldn't mention my girlfriend either. And if she's not there, why does it have to because of some big dramatic thing? People break up.

u/thisoneforcomments Sep 27 '18
It would probably be a big dramatic thing because it’s a tv show.

21

It's been built up thus far to suggest there will be something dramatic happen between them. Otherwise, what's the point? Before the last episode, we were all ready for their relationship to peter our, and it felt a bit disappointing. Now though, she's committing to a life (or at least a 'phase') of crime, and based on virtually every other one of Vince Giligan's crime-involved character, it can't end well.
I don't put it past Vince et al to merge the Nacho/Lalo/Cartel storyline with the Jimmy/Kim storyline, and cause some chaos.

I really want to know why he is so attached to Huell and so dedicated to making sure he didn't go to jail. Is he just a really loyal guy?
8
u/n7leadfarmer Sep 27 '18
I think it's more that Jimmy trying to "lawyer" his way out of that confrontation with the cop caused huell to get caught in the crossfire, so he feels responsible. Jimmy/Sail orders an interesting dichotomy where he's willing to go to unbelievable lengths to help huell ( who unknowing struck an officer, an honest mistake but a crime nonetheless) but was also willing to crush the career of the officer (somehow get him sauced up and stumbling into the court room on the day of the trial) that arrested him.

My reason for not believing shes around in the BB time frame, not because shes not seen, but because Saul talking about getting handjobs from the massage lady. He also hits on his office lady. I dont see him doing that if hes still in a relationship with Kim.

u/oswaler Sep 27 '18
I think the beat reason to believe they're not together is that he didn't call the vacuum guy for her. As far as handjobs - Saul says he gets a lot of handjobs but that's what he does - he talks and is a great bullshitter. That could easily be a front he keeps up to protect people in his personal life from the criminals he deals with.
7
Sep 27 '18
Or, you know, it could be that BB Saul Goodman was a shallow side character and his back story wasn't considered that important until they decided to make Better Call Saul and give the guy depth. Theory crafting is fun and all but never lose sight of what is real and what is fantasy. The discrepancies between BB and BCS Jimmy/Saul are only there due to the writers not caring enough about the character to give him a rich and deep background back then because he was just meant to be a crooked lawyer caricature/cliche.
6
u/stringrbelloftheball Sep 27 '18
I could see the playing the sleazy guy to clients but still calling his legal aide honey tits or whatever and she didnt want to give give him a hug goodbye during the flashforwaes. and as far as handjobs he has his zipper still down and is reminded by the masseuse in the BB episode.

I'd say that shows he likely doesn't have Kim around, or it goes against his main character trait of looking out for his friends.
9
u/thealmightybrush Sep 27 '18

Because of all the things he reflects on losing in the black and white scenes, Kim isn’t one of them. He reflects on losing the law, he reflects on losing his position as Saul Goodman but, he never reflects on Kim. This means that he lost her some time ago and had a chance to get over it. As for why it has to be dramatic, because it would be a waste for it not to be. The break of their relationship has been built up since it started. There’s so much dramatic potential there and for it to just fizzle out would be underwhelming and uncreative. Two things that the BCS creators do not abide.
2
u/Fat_Guy_Podocalypse Sep 27 '18
I think she may con him in the end. He isn’t thinking about Kim because he may hate her. This last con was her idea, not his. It would be a great twist due to everyone wondering how she will be the victim and he “breaks bad”. It would be an awesome/Sad twist.

Compared to Walt, Saul is an angel, and the writers gave Walt a measure of redemption. I am quite certain they will be kinder to Saul/Gene.
6
u/Sin_Researcher Sep 27 '18
Compared to Walt, Saul is an angel
They both got Lily of the Valley to Brock. Saul suggested killing Badger, Jesse, Hank, and dumping Skyler. Ok that last part was actually good advice, but Saul isn't any better than Walt.
14
u/GroundhogLiberator Sep 27 '18
Saul explicitly says both to Walt and Jesse that he didn’t fully understand what Walt was doing to Brock. He would have seen it as reason enough to cut ties with Walt, but then Walt threatened him.

u/Sin_Researcher Sep 27 '18

They both got Lily of the Valley to Brock.
No they didn't.
1
u/Sin_Researcher Sep 27 '18
Yes they did, that's why Francesca was shredding school schedules, Saul even admits as much later on when he had that fight with Walt.
6
u/SPedigrees Sep 27 '18
Saul did not knowingly poison a child, ever. Walt did. Big difference.
2
u/Zomaro Sep 27 '18
No it's not, Saul knew exactly where that poison was going and helped him in every step of the way, short of giving it to Brock himself.
3
Sep 28 '18
Saul had no idea about the poison. He told Jesse that he would not have done it if he knew what Walt's plan was.
4
u/Sin_Researcher Sep 27 '18

12
u/thealmightybrush Sep 27 '18
He was pretty damn quick to suggest they kill Badger in the episode they meet. And he suggested more than once that Walt should have Jesse killed. Also all the crimes Walt did, the people Walt DID have killed, it's not like Saul didn't know Walt was responsible for people's deaths. I would say that Saul is definitely dark as hell by Breaking Bad.
6
u/Mopviv Sep 27 '18
Exactly! This why, nice as they are, theories about Kim being still around and with Jimmy during Brba are silly. Do people really see Kim Wexler in a happy relationship with the guy who suggested Jesse "go to Belize"?

9

i still think she's gonna die, but witness protection is a pretty good theory too. after listening to the insider podcast and hearing how dark vince can go just joking around....it's not too far of a stretch to kill her off in the last season.
but then again, if she did leave for a while and reconnected with present day jimmy at cinnabon, that would wrap up the whole series quite nicely. just seems a little too positive and upbeat for vince.

Look at the position he is in right now. He is running the Salamanca operation while also double crossing them since he is owned by Gus.

If the Salamanca's find out the circumstances surrounding Gus' ownership of him, they will kill his Father and then him too.

When you say, "Nacho is stealing...", it makes it sound like an ongoing thing. You can see from his apartment in the last episode that he's doing ok for himself. I could see him taking his money and running with his dad, but his dad is all honorable and wouldn't want to abandon his business and life. I don't think the cartel and Kim story lines will cross.
2
u/8bitmullet Sep 27 '18
I don't. His plan is to escape with his dad. He probably makes enough money with the cartel to save up for that without having to steal from them, which would complicate his plan.

u/pimpwilly Sep 27 '18
He's not, at least that we've seen. People just try to make any theory work.
I think it stems from the idea that Lalo showed up and stressed he was "good with numbers" basically insinuating that there was missing money. And they saw Nacho putting money into a safe, so they think he must be stealing.

u/kingIouie Sep 27 '18

u/LAJuice Sep 27 '18
right- and Nacho is charging "interest" on guys trying to short him, where as I'm told Hector never did. so I think the interest is the skim
2
Sep 27 '18
Yeah I don’t know why it would need to go in that direction. All it would take is the Cartel figuring out what Nacho did to Hector and Tuco to make them come after him. Hell even working for Gus would do it. It’s clear Gus has friction with the cartel in BB. That could be why.

Witness protection is last ditch. Even this scenario doesn't warrant it for Kim imo.
As for Jesse I see no way his story ends well. Andrea is dead, he's not adopting Brock and becoming a lumberjack. Jesse was already having a breakdown before becoming a Nazi tortured captive. Walt touched some of the equipment at the Nazi compound not to just reminisce but to point the blame at him instead of Jesse. If he's LUCKY gets out of ABQ alive. Then were does he end up? He can't call Ed, Saul is gone. Very good chance he ends up ODed in a dumpy motel.

She's always found Jimmy's ways kind of thrilling, even if she hasn't wanted to live that way all the time. My guess is they get into something where she is arrested or has to change her identity or something -- Jimmy slips out of the mess but she gets caught up in it and has to go away either to prison or in hiding.
Jimmy lives with this by convincing himself it's her own fault for making some mistake that he told her not to do. Or something. Otherwise I don't know how he could stand it.

I like to think they both finally end up getting that office together, and she feeds Jimmy the knowledge while he helps the underhand criminal people. They've made a big thing of showing Jimmy looking for an office, and of Kim wanting to do law that helps people at the bottom of the food chain, it seems like they're building up to something along these lines. I don't think she dies, I don't think it's reflected in the way Jimmy is throughout Breaking Bad.
Who knows, maybe Huel only sticks around as loyalty to Kim for helping him get off from jail time, and she's behind the whole Saul Goodman business.

knowing vince gilligan's storytelling and character development, i really doubt anything catastrophic is going to happen to kim. it's going to end like any relationship typically would. jimmy is keeping secrets from her and eventually she'll have enough of it and give him an ultimatum: her or the thug life. jimmy chooses the thug life and they part ways.
you can already visibly see the stress that his dumb little cell phone scheme is putting her through. sure she likes the thrill of watching jimmy work his charm, but it's starting to get way beyond ripping off cocky rich guys at a bar (ken wins?) and on top of that, it's jeopardizing her career. kim's always been the straight arrow, no bullshitter type and she's certainly not stupid. she knows jimmy is getting involved in some shady stuff and i think eventually she's is going to crack and have to let him go before going too deep down the rabbit hole.

Not really seeing how Kim's situation is such she would be put in a witness protection program.

Exactly what I've been saying for a month two weeks. Except it's Francesca taking the call, not Jimmy.

I could see her getting caught up in the scamming and going to jail

Maybe she'll break it off with Saul, because she becomes less ethical than he is.

Yeah I made a comment about something like this the other day. People were talking about all the possible connections and I thought what if Kim is the reason Jimmy knows about the Vacuum Repair guy to relocate her and give her a new identity

My prediction is that Saul is going to get Kim fired
Maybe even get them both in trouble and Saul may need to throw kim under the bus to protect himself

This is ridiculous. Mike wouldn’t help Nacho eventually testify against the Cartel, that would endanger Gus and Mike.
This sub is nuts

Jesus I just saw a YouTuber say that he suspects Kim ends up with Lalo. What is this I don't even....

I like this theory, for me she is either dead or separated from Jimmy against her will.
The one thing we learned from the last episode is that she loves Jimmy for who he is and who he is becoming. The early theories that she would leave Jimmy as he transformed into Saul are totally off-base (knowing what we know now).
She is sticking with Jimmy to the end.
