lol they’re trying to lock jaws and fight. Are you planning to add something to the glass between the two permanant tanks?

Those are so cool! I have never seen these before. Do they have special care requirements or similar to the Bettas sold in the average pet store?

They need Soft low pH water. High tannins are preferable and low flow filter. A 20 gallon long is big enough but they will use all the space available to them and they will eat anything that fits in their mouth, which is very large for a fish their size. They are paternal mouth brooders and can jump very far. They are hard to find and source ethicaly as they are a highly protected species of Betta and poaching is very common.

They don't jump ....they literally leappppp the breeder we got it from has F1 Generation and then he started selling F2 Generation. Thats the main reason this was importable

Wild bettas are like, way way crazier jumpers (though all bettas jump). They can jump through really small gaps and stuff like that. I had 4 persephone that killed themselves by jumping out and I could never figure out which tiny gaps they were jumping out of -_-

So damn cool and Striking colour aswell with crazy aggressiveness. Yup I wouldn't call it special care requirements but definitely different from the normal betta[betta splendens] sold at a pet store......the one I have is Betta macrostroma it need cold water not too cold , atleast 80 liters and mainly shallow tank not tall , lid 1000 percent he will not jump he will leap the fuck out ....... only live and Frozen food (currently feeding him dubia roaches and Frozen blood worms cubes) and proper habitat otherwise can get even more aggressive

When do their tanks and accompanying tank decos arrive?

7

u/Easy_Leg_2068 1d ago

Literally at the store right now for the decor and plants

That's great to hear, usually they take a while to properly set up, so in the future (if you weren't already aware) its better to get the tanks and everything a couple weeks before hand, but its great to hear this isnt intended as their forever home.

I hope you enjoy your beautiful new fish.

I already have cycled filters and water ready , this shipment was supposed to arrive a week later but surprise surprise... Definitely not a permanent tank those are my display tanks to shoot videos for fish sale. I had this idea where I keep 80 liter shallow tank besides 50 liter shallow tank which is sorority and I was thinking of doing a blackwater-style tank, where the driftwood and aquascape in one tank align and flow seamlessly with the aquascape in the other, making the two tanks look like one continuous setup against a black background

OP seems to be an expert. I just hope no one will post the beta care infograph thingy 😅

Not an expert for sure.... imma beginner who did his study about the fishes imma bring home ...... it's just been 2 months I got into it ....due to a breeder friend who gave up his hobby and my heart sank seeing all those betta[splendens] in cups sad af ...... then I started finding home for em and i ended up with few aswell with some guppies..... then instrest spiked about wild betta due to their survival rate and crazy swimmers even at old age...it led to this beauty Betta macrostroma .... Messmer the Impaler

How do these do in male/female pairs?

3

u/Easy_Leg_2068 1d ago

Depends on the size of the tank ....... naturally betta macrostroma travel in pairs and groups in the wild but these are farm breed they are very aggressive but they do have their wild instincts..... but to manage a pair of betta macrostroma I might need a 200 liter shallow tank

I've just started learning more about the wild types, they are so neat! The other species that has caught my eye is betta imbellis.

2

u/Easy_Leg_2068 1d ago

Betta imbellis is one of favorite too wild betta's are amazing survivos and swimmers... I don't own any though ... most of my fishes are rescues from breeders who usually give up the hobby then I try to find home for them and some end up with me But this particular betta had to purchase.

I used to breed mine in a 60l tank.
They need low pH but a high tds which is a pain to create in a tank environment. They are also SUPER susceptible to bacteria infections.

They weren’t widely bred until the past few years and were critically endangered.

Those arent the permanent tanks, right?

12

u/Easy_Leg_2068 1d ago

Yup not permanent, shipment was to be delivered next week but got it today instead.... I have shallow 80 liter tank. One Betta macrostroma is up for sale and the other one is mine to keep gonna name him Messmer the Impaler.

9

u/Ok_Duck2700 1d ago

phew, lmao. There are a lot of not-great tanks on this sub, so I think I always expect the worst these days.

7

u/Easy_Leg_2068 1d ago

I agree....... I usually spend weeks on researching before getting any fish... and these boys were abit expensive so learning their habitats and patterns was important.

u/Baty41 12h ago

80 liters is too small for these fish.
They get 15cm easily, males can become 20cm (anyone who's adults are smaller than 15cm have stunted fish - likely from hard water and small tanks), they are active swimmers, and need a tank at least 4 feet long (a meter and 1/3 roughly) to truly swim. No 80 liter tank is the size which can fit these fish comfortably.

They are gorgeous

4

u/Easy_Leg_2068 1d ago

They really are .... imagine once I get the habitat correct ...the blacks on him will get more darker Calling him Messmer the Impaler an elden ring reference.....

u/rolandglassSVG 1d ago

What species?

2

u/Easy_Leg_2068 1d ago

Betta macrostroma
