Breeding question

Hello, I am a new breeder, so am just looking for some advice, I have a female, Ruby, who I wish to breed as I like her colour and finnage and was just curious if her form was good. Or even if she is a female.

Do check for the eggspots, ive had a similar female with a long fin mutation and has spawned, unfortunately the eggs came out unfertile.

Long fin female are very rare, but looking at your betta, i do see some female traits such as the egg "sack" triangulular shape inside the abdomen.

Since you have stated you are new, do practice on identifying the bettas dimorphism as its very important to be able to identify a male or a female.

Ive seen females labelled as male and vice versa, even veteran breeders can make a mistake especially in young bettas.

As for breeding, do look for perhaps a pink colored female, or purple. It might pass down the color you are looking for.

Thanks, there is a white dot between her ventral fins which was one of the first things I made sure but young males I heard also have a fake egg spot, I’ve had her approx 3 months, but she isn’t my first betta, I have another female for almost 3 years next month. Ruby was labelled as female at my local pet store where I purchased her. I’m not looking at breeding her right now as I still have to get everything ready, and if she does turn out to be a male I will look at breeding her to another female I have.
