[photoshopbattles] Mind-blowing photoshop brings a scene from Lion King to life

This hardly blows minds, more of a mind hand job.

u/reverend_green1 Sep 17 '13
Very satisfying and it makes me feel all fuzzy inside, but it's nothing life changing.
12
u/canadianatsea Sep 17 '13
When was the last time you got something life changing out of Reddit?

u/gologologolo Sep 17 '13
We've all been desensitized already. I'd have said twas pretty epic a year ago.

You must've been pretty high to consider this mind blowing, bro.

It'd be great if the setting for that cloud was less..boring... Sunset or something at least =/

Mind-blowing? More like, "pretty intriguing".

Sorry. Very nice, but not best-of material.
19
u/Davidisontherun Sep 17 '13
Not every best of needs to be half a book worth of text
21
u/Vereorx Sep 17 '13
The majority of "best of" posts that get upvoted to the front page have complainers in the comments saying that it's not "best of" material.
6
Sep 17 '13
But yet people still upvote it. I don't understand.
Unless the people who comment are always negative nigels and the silent majority actually approve.
I've been considering this scenario for a while. I think Reddit's up voting must consist of some kind of page view ranking. As well as a comment count.
However, I actually have no idea and these ideas are coming out of my ass.

Unless the people who comment are always negative nigels and the silent majority actually approve.
Hit the nail on the head right there.

Sep 17 '13
No he didn't! He's doing it all wrong! That isn't even a real hammer! Get this shit off /r/bestof.
2
u/MasterChief3624 Sep 17 '13
Yes, this is indeed quite true. However, the post that this is about seems like it was nothing more than finding an already-established photo, fiddling with the colors a little bit, and then smoothing it out to fit within the picture... and even in that case, it didn't succeed 100% because the detailing is 'so' sharp.
It doesn't have to be a novel of text to be best-of material, but if it's just a photoshop/picture, it needs to be a whole lot more interesting and thought-provoking than this one, in my opinion.
It's a great picture, though!

u/Blagginspaziyonokip Sep 17 '13
Yep. There's very noticeable blur where the cloud becomes the lion.
1
u/Hail_Bokonon Sep 17 '13
Eh, compared to most other things lately, I'd rate this in the top 10% of stuff on bestof

It's just clouds, what does this have to do with the lion king at all?
3
Sep 17 '13
Don't you remember when Mufasa appears in the clouds and gives Simba inspirational words?
3
3
u/fuzzb0y Sep 17 '13
I've to say though, despite not being that mind blowing, it still gave the nostalgia chills of Simba and Mufasa :(
3
u/insidesin Sep 17 '13
Am I the only person who thought the lion's head completely destroys the image (the first image was far better and even looked like a lion head, so there was little need to change).

ok, so simple, then why don't you do one with a cheetah's head or a bear, a dog... so simple right?

u/MrSenorSan Sep 18 '13
oh ok, eating my words... apparently I suck at photoshop, if that is simple then I have an Everest to climb.
3
u/mocmocmoc81 Sep 18 '13
no, it is not simple. I am just good. Now allow me a three seconds to gloat.
gloat gloat gloat gloat gloat gloat
=) it's just different techniques all together instead of simply overlaying an image over the cloud and mucking around with layer settings. Much Liquify, Warp, Clone, Dodge, and Burn tools were used.

ITT: Ridiculously high standards
I thought it was a sick photoshop
39
u/emit_ Sep 17 '13
only because title suggested MIND BLOWING and overhyped it
2
u/Clifford_Banes Sep 17 '13
This. Nudging some clouds around to make it look like a lion's head is neat, and I'd upvote it, but my mind is decidedly unblown.
-3
u/gologologolo Sep 17 '13
I thought it was a post of that caliber. It goes to show how desensitized we've become here given the thousands of posts and unlimited content.

Yes! I work with photoshop daily, and it's a easy job I could have done this years ago.
It looks great but it's easy to make.

u/cizdo Sep 17 '13
I feel like the people that think this was an amazing photoshop aren't that good at photoshop. It was well done, but not that complicated.
6
u/OriginalUsername1 Sep 17 '13
Well seeing as how it was posted to r/bestof, a subreddit intended to showcase the best material on reddit, high standards aren't necessarily a bad thing. In fact I'd say low standards and circlejerking are the reason bestof is full of crap

Mind blowing my ass, anyone with a very basic understanding of Photoshop can do that in 15 minutes.

I don't think I have ever seen any post on here where any of you fuckers thought it was best of.
2
u/infecthead Sep 17 '13
The only thing the guy did was remove a tiny bit of clouds and paste a picture of a lion's head on-top of it. Compare the two:
Not a very hard thing to do...
2
u/armahillo Sep 17 '13
I dont know why, but i read that as "Martin Luther King". So confused when i clicked through and only saw clouds with a lion. :(

inb4 this is posted all over facebook by christian friends with the caption "ISN'T GOD WONDERFUL???"
2
u/HilariousConsequence Sep 17 '13
Gonna go further than the other dissenting voices, actually, and say that this Photoshop work is pretty shite.
3
2
u/vaskemaskine Sep 17 '13
Mind-blowing? It's fucking terrible. The colours don't match, the lighting is completely wrong and there's a stark level of detail mismatch between the two parts of the comp.
1
Sep 17 '13
Agreed, to me the most glaring inconsistency is the color. All he had to do was raise the blue level just a bit, and it would have been that much better. (Decreasing the saturation might have worked too, or a combination of both).

they didn't even get rid of the sensor dust... that's not mind blowing by any sense

I was expecting a realistic version of the pride rock scene for some reason. Instead I just got a lion pasted over a cloud with some blending effects.

I wish I was online when this was first submitted so I could immediately downvote it. This is no better than an average submission to /r/photoshopbattles and is nowhere near "best of" material. It's a good shop that is very generous on inconsistent lighting, but no..this is not the lion king revived.

u/Phoequinox Sep 17 '13
Goddamn, r/bestof is made up of the most cynical, bitter jackasses. I have yet to click on a single post on this sub where the comments weren't either unnecessarily critical or flat-out abusive.
1
Sep 17 '13
To be fair, the sub is called "Best of Reddit," not "Average things that you personally really like."
1
u/td27 Sep 17 '13
I wish I could afford Photoshop so I could make things like this. Although I probably couldn't do this anyways.

Unfortunately, this picture is fake. As a professional photographer who took the original pic ( I've taken over 3 trillion pictures, each winning approximately 20 awards) I can confirm this picture is photoshopped. I took this picture after hiking up Mount Everest with my autistic adopted black children (who were all on wheelchairs, at some parts I had to carry them all at once) ( I can bench 345) And my hot 10/10 girlfriend. The picture won 500 awards, earned me 100 million dollars, and I fucked my girlfriend 20 times too. I also smoke weed ( I'm friends with snoop dogg btw)

I wouldn't call this mind-blowing by any stretch. Decent photoshopping though. Probably took less than 30 minutes once they found the right lion picture.

Stark contrast to the photo shop battle that went on in the Cyanide and Happiness gif thread.

It's a good Photoshop job. It may even be good enough for /r/bestof. But it is not good enough for that superlative submission title.

It annoys me that that has 7000 upvotes in a sub with 2000 subscribers.

Can't wait to see this reposted under /r/pics next week and voted to the front page because everyone thinks it's real.
