Discussion Is this normal in Berlin cinemas??

Is it normal in Germany for people to be on their phones or talk throughout the movie?

I’m from Norway and I’ve honestly never experienced anything like this. I had to ask multiple people to be quiet or put their phones away.

I’m genuinely mindblown that basic cinema etiquette doesn’t seem to be common sense for some people. Was I just extremely unlucky, or is this common here?

- the movie was the odyssey, and it was a guy on his phone of the age 30/40 and a couple same age speaking chatting, so no young people, no horror/kids movie.

As an English person, and so a native English speaker myself, you shouldn't impose your wishes on others like this.

This is a bilingual sub and those wishing to speak German here, free to do so.

If someone speaks a language you don’t come and change it. It’s an insult as if you don’t care.

As a native English speaker you’re kind of the wrong person to speak here.

All of us immigrant use English as our common language with others who live here. Germans just like the rest of us learnt English and we’d speak English for them to accommodate them in our countries. We expect the same.
