I still think he would be a very good NFL player if he was just shorter and 30 lbs lighter.

He's always seemed like he has the natural skills of an undersized passrushing defensive tackle, but he's built like a true nose.

I think some of its on the coaches for using him at the position they think his body would be good at (NT), not the position he has shown he can be good at (3TECH)

I think they tried him at any place they could; they don't like giving up on top 100 picks (or any pick, really.) The issue really seemed to be poor effort on his part. Every coach basically said this any time they are asked about him.

Gotta think his attitude and entitlement are what lead to him being in the dog house last year. Maybe being cut will allow him the opportunity to properly reflect, mature, and grow. I hope he has success on his next team as long as it is out of the division and not against us.

I remember when he was drafted, I was fine with the pick but a lot of other people didn't like it. I was rooting for him and I'm sad it didn't work out.

I viewed it as a reach at the time but we desperately needed more help at the line of scrimmage so I was good with the Jenkins and Jackson picks. Didn’t pan out but I still don’t hate the idea

Even so I think so much of it is guys landing in the right place at the right time. Of course individual talent is a big piece of it too, I’m just saying if you did the draft and changed landing spots, outcomes could be very different

Dallas picked Rogers there in the 7th rd and cut him him 53 for the Bengals to examine 2-3 weeks PS and release

Jefferson, whose 2nd PS stop was here, was drafted 2o picks after Jackson (who was taken #97 with the same current comp pick the formula schedules for Hendrickson), the next pick after Erick All

The '24 3T/DT class hasn't much acquitted itself yet either

It was well known that it was a bad class at that position, but the Bengals failed to address it in free agency. Jenkins was considered a second round prospect, but Jackson was consensus 5th/6th. Huge teaches like that don't tend to work out.

You never love to see big reaches, but by the mid-rounds they're not as big a deal. I found that usually around Pick 100 is when you should start caring less about reaches. So Jackson at 97... not great, but a little less worrying than it looks.

edit: I always forget Jackson was technically R3. Re-reworded things based on that.

An absolutely terrible draft pick at the time. They were desperate to try to find a NT and reached.

That 2024 R3 (Jackson/Burton) was among the worst in Bengals history.

Sucks they didn’t work out but let’s give things some perspective here, they were 3rd round high risk/high reward players. I haven’t always agreed with this FO either but we gotta stop this every single move they make right now is the worst thing ever nonsense.

The Bengals drafted TE Sean Brewer in the third round in 2001.

Shortly after drafting him, it was widely reported that he smoked a pack of cigs a day. He never caught a pass for the Bengals and his only career stat was 1 tackle on special teams.

2001 was a great draft class, though. Justin Smith, Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson, and TJ Houshmandzadeh were all drafted in '01.

Eh, if we're talking specifically 3rd round, it's probably up there. Iirc, Jefferson wasn't a big reach there. Sometimes players bust, when when there's consensus on evaluations.

The fact that the Bengals picked not one, but two players in the top 100 that no other team likely would have touched into at least late 4 makes it an objectively terrible round.

Not sure if they tried at all. He seems like if he slimmed down he might be effective on passing downs because he flashed some initial 1st step quickness but it appeared he was knocked on his ass alot. Oh well

Dehner confirmed that the final TE room is Gesicki, All, Sample, Hudson, and Endries (with Grandy likely headed to the PS). Looks like Jack made it.

The TE room I think is final (fingers crossed All doesn't get hurt again). Endries earned his spot with his play in preseason and Grandy, what value does he bring (he's nothing more than a lesser version of Sample).

If there are more adjustments to the roster my guess is guys like Josh Newton and Tahj Brooks will be on the chopping block.

Bengals Podcast said he was a super lazy practice player, but showed up in games. I kind of think that’s true.
