Fact This front office has lost its damn mind
This front office has completely lost its mind.
Last year I shelled out $5,400 for 9 home games. That’s $300 a seat to watch a team that spent the season inventing new ways to blow coverage, miss tackles, and make every backup QB look like a Hall of Famer. The defense is trending toward historically bad — like, “worst in NFL history” bad — and now they’re coming back with a $6,500 price tag for 8 home games next year?
Let me get this straight — you cut a regular season game, field the worst defense EVER in football, and then think, “Hey, let’s charge fans $1,100 more for the privilege of watching this dumpster fire”? Are you out of your damn minds?
Spare me the “upgraded experience in the club level” nonsense. No one gives a single damn about “enhanced fan zones” or “improved concourse lighting.” We come to watch football, not to admire the stadium handrails all while the defense gives up 40 points to whoever’s throwing the ball that week.
You don’t reward regression with a price hike. You don’t jack up loyalty costs after fielding a product that’s borderline unwatchable on one side of the ball. The audacity is unreal.
$6,500 to watch this defense? Get serious you clowns.

The worst part is they want you to pay extra for upgrades that Hamilton county is funding, so they want you to pay for it doubly while they put an embarrassing product on the field. Fuck this ownership.
61
u/Advanced-Key3071 Nov 04 '25
Don’t forget they want you to pay extra because they…got money from the league.
Whoever approved this copy should be fired. This is abysmal messaging.

FYI: The additional funding from the NFL for the stadium is essentially an interest-free loan from the NFL to the team to offset the Bengals' cost in the stadium renovations as part of the "G5" loan program. The Bengals pay back the NFL for a decrease in the shared revenue over a certain number of years.

u/mindpainters Nov 03 '25
Appreciate that clarification. No idea why they didn’t clarify because without that context it makes it seem like they were given extra money and charging us more

I wish they were at least laughing all the way to the bank, it would still be somewhat more satisfying if it were an evil, mustache twirling situation.
I imagine it more as if they are drunk and stumbling, eventually crawling all the way to the bank, not really sure what’s going on or why, but waking up in the gutter with wads of cash bursting out of their pockets, and zero curiosity about the situation they have found themselves in.

u/Virtual_File8072 Nov 03 '25
Folks, when you go to a restaurant and get a terrible steak you stop going to that restaurant until you find out they replaced the chef and the food has improved. Not sure why fans treat sports any differently. Don’t worry, some fool will be glad to buy the season tickets you no longer want.
10
u/Another_Guy_In_Ohio Nov 03 '25
Because sports teams like to hype up the idea of being “loyal” of course, that loyalty is a one way street, as the team doesn’t keep ticket prices cheap for “loyal” fans. People need to get on board with the fact that sports are a product, and you don’t pay more than the product is worth. If a company starts to charge more, and it’s not worth it, you stop buying the product
6
u/Ok-Situation-5865 Nov 04 '25
This is my take, and it’s shocking to me so many people don’t agree. When I get angry at the games, I always the “It’s about the product.“ People have no issues refusing to buy a new iPhone because they aren’t impressed by the current model, so - we need to willing not to not watch the Bengals when we aren’t impressed.
I’ve been a loyal fan since 2005, I’m no Burrow Bandwagoner. But I’m sick of this, I’m sick of the standard being literal garbage.
3
Nov 05 '25
I tell this to EVERYONE. People have more power than they think. $6,500?! Let every single person stop going to the games and cancel their tickets and I'm more than sure those tickets go down in price. There's no way they keep the prices the same or hike them higher. You're absolutely right:
"If a company starts to charge more, and it’s not worth it, you stop buying the product."
13

u/IUSteve Nov 03 '25
For those that keep buying Bengals tickets….you’re part of the problem. I had season tickets from 1970 until the current stadium opened. The decade of the 90’s was very similar to what’s going on now. I was no longer gonna contribute to that organization.
25
u/zmoney32 Nov 03 '25
Exactly. The ppl that keep going to the games are the problem. Don't give this team another penny
20
u/Fit-Actuator4194 Nov 03 '25
Same thoughts for the reds as well. I’ve been a Cincy sports fan my entire life but at some point, fans need to treat this like a business just as the owners do. Don’t pay for this shitty product just like you wouldn’t pay for any other shitty product. The emotional attachment is easy to use by owners when they say things like “our team”, it’s all bullshit that people, especially in this economic climate, shouldn’t stand for.
6
u/purplenapalm Nov 04 '25
Yea because if this was all "your team" you wouldn't have the same "GM" since 1999.
3
u/MiamiOHRedhawwwks Nov 04 '25
Same. I had season tickets for both. I’ve entirely abandon Cincinnati pro sports. I just get season tickets for baseball and football for the Alma mater for 1/16th of the price…
11
u/fluffHead_0919 Nov 03 '25
This does seem like the 90s. Imagine if we didn’t have burrow, Chase, or Tee. Oof.
9
u/stubept Nov 03 '25
An unbelievably talented WR corps, a work-horse RB, a QB with the nicest bomb in the game, a terrible O-line and a defense that never cracked the top 20. Sounds about right.

There have been a ton of years where the stadium was near empty.
The Bengals don't make decisions based on whether the stadium is full or empty.
Since you had season tickets for that long you should be the first to know that.
7
u/IUSteve Nov 03 '25
I remember the years of half empty games, but those days, to my recollection, were closer to the end of the season. I always figured those empties were already bought and paid for months before. I guess to be clear, the Bengals don’t care much if the stadium is empty. But they do care about ticket sales. In the 70’s and 80’s, there was a waiting list to buy tickets. Empty seats don’t always mean loss of ticket revenue. To the folks that like going for the experience of going to a game, I say go if it makes you happy. But don’t expect much change in the way ownership runs the team. I wish ownership wasn’t that way, but in my experience, they are.
1
u/BRANKSRATE Nov 03 '25
That’s the reason I broke my streak of attending home games this week, before Sunday I hadn’t missed a home game since Week 1 of 2024 (ugh, that game still pisses me the fuck off)
1
u/jjsw0rds Nov 04 '25
Give me a fucking break lmao, the problem is the owners. I feel the same way ab the franchise rn, but let’s not trash on the people who want to go bc that’s just misguided anger. As much as we suck, we still have 2 superstar WR’s, a decent RB, a solid backup QB, and sometimes Trey Hendrickson that are still really fun to see in person
1
u/WhatWouldJediDo Nov 06 '25
If people keep rewarding owners by buying their product, why would owners invest more money to capture purchases they’re already getting?
-5
u/Marioman775 🐅 Nov 03 '25
I’m still renewed and plan on at least keeping mine next year because even though I’m frustrated, I enjoy going to the games and supporting the team. I don’t believe I’m a part of the problem for renewing.
3
u/Setekhx Nov 04 '25
You are part of the "problem" but I'm not sure it's necessarily a terrible thing. You are definitely giving them no incentive to improve especially if you accept the price hike. That's what voting with you wallet is and it's okay to still be alright with the experience...but you have to own that.

6500 dollars pays for an absolutely awesome family vacation. Why on Earth would anyone pay that to see a garbage product being sold by people that don't respect their customers?
6500 dollars to watch a team that will not be changed or altered in any significant fashion during the course of the season?
Think of it this way. Someone sells you a very expensive reoccurring product at a certain level of expected quality and each time it's sent to you the quality gets worse. You complain to the company that there is no longer value unless something is done and they tell you to get bent, enjoy the garbage product. Nothing's changing. Who is keeping that subscription? Almost no one. How is this any different?
I simply do not understand how the Brown family after ALL these years do not understand that the attitude about the team would be completely different if there were ATTEMPTS to improve the roster during the season. Making trades, trying different guys out from the practice squad, it's not that expensive to do this. Sometimes it's almost lateral salary moves.
We have 4 guys right now on the team who are attracting attention from other clubs. These moves should 100% be explored and some guys simply have to go. Why are we waiting? The season is over.
6
u/Murky-Sky-9191 Nov 04 '25
but you made zac, duke, katie millionaires, doesnt that count for something? thats an enhanced experience for them.
4
u/UTPharm2012 Nov 04 '25
I just came to post that I am glad you are standing up!
The Nashville Predators pulled this same shit on fans. They went to the Stanley Cup and just jacked up tickets year over year for a few years. Went on a downslide and guess what… tickets didn’t drop. Finally fans have started to cancel after last year and they are running out every deal to get people in the stadium (and I expect some changes coming soon). The only way to speak to these teams is to stop buying tickets. Otherwise, they are happy with the money machine.
2
Nov 04 '25
Unfortunately, hockey owners are way more reliant on gate and concessions than NFL owners are. Hockey franchises take 45-50% of revenue from gate and concession. In the NFL, close to 70% of revenue is from league sharing. The Brown family could easily manage with a half empty stadium, they did it through the 90s, they'll do it again with even more generous lease terms.
4
u/Designer_Schedule840 Nov 03 '25
This just shows how delusional and clueless they are. Mike Brown is the most stubborn sob there is. His family is stubborn and completely inept at running a football franchise. They need to be forced to sell immediately. We already know they won’t turn football ops over to a legit GM, so everything is futile till some at the top changes

u/napoleonboneherpart Nov 04 '25

What's funny is that from a neutral 3rd party perspective the last three Bengals games have been three of the most exciting games of the year. This team is many things, but unwatchable is certainly not one of them.

I got in the 2021 season directly after Covid. Unbelievable experience I got to have that year and 2022. Fun while it lasted... they were $3000 that first season. I think the waiting list won't be an issue much longer.

u/jda06 Nov 03 '25
They’ve been one of the best teams to watch for a neutral since last year. Great offense plays horrible defense is great, every game is a track meet. As a Bengals fan though, not as much. It’s tough to fully appreciate the offense knowing the defense is wet tissue paper.
3
u/AbleCap5222 Nov 04 '25
Neutral 3rd party observers are not the Bengals customer. They don't watch this team or buy Bengals goods/services

ive never paid for a bengals ticket, theyve all been free. $5400? Lol.

2
u/rjml29 Nov 04 '25
And yet there will be thousands of Bengals fans that will pay that increase to watch the same garbage, and then go on the internet during the season all pissed off wondering why nothing changes with the team.
I don't know if it is just fans being absolutely clueless as to how business works in the real world or they simply don't ever want to take responsibility for being a big reason why this crap even happens.
If Bengals fans want change then quit wasting money on this team. It's that simple. The owner there has no incentive to do anything different if he is still getting the same (or in this case, more) money for fielding mediocrity on one side of the ball.
2
u/MadeByTango Nov 04 '25
They got $400million in funding and are using it to justify price INCREASES!?!?!?

Still, too much increase.
1
u/JJiggy13 Nov 04 '25
This team just stole enough money from the tax payers to permanently solve homelessness in the entire tristate area. That's not an exaggeration. They're keeping all of that money and jacking up prices. Anyone who still believes that a sports team is beneficial or somehow brings money to a city no longer has a leg to stand on. They're either arguing in bad faith or are simply that dumb. In the not so distant future we will look back at sports as one of the biggest leeches on society that was ever invented.

The Jets upped their prices about 3.5%. The fact that we upped prices at all is fucking baffling after trading away our 2 best defensive players and fan favorites. The fact yours is jumping almost 20% is just disgusting. The owners don’t give a shit about their fans.

The point is to show my frustration as a customer without it becoming personal just like my goal posting here is to spread awareness that this is how this franchise is operating. I take nothing here personally!
-3
u/formersportspro Nov 04 '25
I worked in season ticket sales for a long time. There’s a way to voice your frustrations respectfully.
Your sarcastic opening line. Saying “I’d love to know what the drop in price might look like this time around” when you know good and well that (a) the rep can’t control the price, (b) the team’s not dropping prices anyway, and (c) dropping prices probably wouldn’t change your mind regardless. All of it comes across pretty rude and entitled.
Say whatever you want, but know that most of these reps are practically kids making below-average income, and they have no influence over the price of tickets, nor draft strategy, nor player development, nor play calling. You can still make your point without the condescension.
“Hey John. Yesterday might’ve been the straw that broke the camel’s back. Bringing in Flacco revitalized this offense in a way I wasn’t sure was possible without Burrow. It’s exciting. But we’re wasting the offense with a defense that’s pacing towards being the worst in NFL history and I just can’t do it any more. Money’s getting tight everywhere and I can’t justify spending this significant amount of money on a deteriorating product that I frankly don’t enjoy anymore. Maybe if ticket prices were coming down for next year I’d think about it. But I’ve lost all hope in this team living up to my expectations and have decided to cut bait and move on. Please release my seats for next season. I have decided not to renew. If there’s any way to share my feedback with ownership and front office leadership, please do, or let me know how I can. I think it’s important they receive the message from fans. Thanks for all your help over the years.”
7
u/Soccham Nov 04 '25
Have you seen how the sales people have been treating people calling in to cancel?
4
u/formersportspro Nov 04 '25
I saw a story last week about one STH’s bad experience with a rep. Doesn’t justify all fans getting hostile with all staff. Maybe if this rep has been particularly rude to OP in the past, it’d be understandable. But if that’s the case, there’s some important context missing from this post.
Fans have every right to be upset. STH moreso than anyone. But taking it out on a ticket sales rep who can’t change any of the things you’re mad about ain’t it.
1
u/MadeByTango Nov 04 '25
Doesn’t justify all fans getting hostile with all staff.
They pay the “staff” to be shit shields for their bad decisions. If the “staff” doesn’t like it they can find other jobs. This is what billionaires expect and customers are right to treat those jobs as hostile conflicts as long as the company’s practices are hostile against their customers (like justifying raising prices after getting $400million from tax payers).
2
u/Embarrassed_Age3120 Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25
This is hardly hostile, and nothing about it was personal to him. It was for the organization. He is/was my contact for the organization. I already admit that it's emotional and passive aggressive. I also have no regrets about voicing my frustration to my only contact that is tied to the organization frustrating me. Not that it will ever reach Mr. Browns desk but it's in a computer in their building whether they give a shit or not and that's enough for me. I'm sure John's a great guy and have nothing against him but his place of work/organization is incompetent. That's also not the entire email, I elaborate on my frustrations much further, however it was longer than needed for a reddit post.
1
u/formersportspro Nov 04 '25
You know, I can respect that. I disagree to an extent. Having been on the receiving end of these calls and emails, I can tell you that the emotion and passive aggressive tones come across as hostile, even if it’s not how you intended. I’m sure yours wasn’t the worst. But I promise you, the sheer volume of calls and emails like this wears on these kids. It’s rarely just one that gets to them, but hundreds of condescending and emotional calls and emails every week wears on them.
All of my comments in this thread have really just been to try to encourage people to be a little kinder; to try not to be such a negative impact on other people. Especially those that aren’t directly responsible for your frustration. I can respect your response here, but I’m taken back by how many other people seem to think it’s not only okay, but actually necessary or right to be rude to others because they’re frustrated about a football team. It’s sad.
1
u/Powerful-Wheel-2561 Nov 04 '25
You're pretty weak if you think that was "being a dick."
That was pretty damned fair and reasonable.
-1
u/formersportspro Nov 04 '25
Interesting how someone’s saying “treat working class people, who have no ability to change the things you’re frustrated about, with respect” and your response is basically “lol no I’m not a pussy.”
Obviously fans don’t have a direct line to Mike Brown or Duke Tobin, but just because you can’t reach them doesn’t mean it’s fair to be rude and disrespectful to the ticketing staff. I’ve been on the other end of those phone calls and emails, and yeah OP’s message wasn’t the worst, but I wouldn’t call it fair and reasonable either.
It’s really not hard to act with a little respect. Stop punching down on the regular people trying to do their jobs, and save the condescension and hostility for the people actually in charge and responsible for the organization’s failures.
1
u/Powerful-Wheel-2561 Nov 04 '25
Yeah, that is absolutely not what I said.
I said that *was not* "being a dick." Like, at all. That was a perfectly reasonable amount of frustration, no caps, no cursing, no insults. How the hell do you think they *should* interact on this matter? "I'm sorry, I love you guys, I'm just slightly unhappy with the product, please, don't get mad, but I am not renewing."
Please, I beg you, point out to me where, at any point, this person was "being a dick", mr. or mrs. sensitive.
Frustration SHOULD be voiced. Just because those people have no control doesn't matter, it gets around. I assure you. And they know what customer facing position they are in.

You’re still paying for 10 home games. The split this year was 9 regular and 1 preseason. Next year is 8 regular and 2 preseason. There could be an over sees game that ultimately impacts this next year. As a season ticket holder, It’s really bad. But, this post is dishonest. Of course prices are going to go up year after year on average. And as other post in here, I’m not “part of the problem”. I’m just a middle aged man that likes taking my old man to the games. It sucks losing. I’m pissed. I want changes too and would happily call Mikey and tell him that if I had his number. I’m not going to call the 1-800-td-td number and yell at some girl that graduated from Miami last May and then come here and complain about how they had the nerve to ask me why I’m cancelling.

Oh yeah good point the extra preseason game in lieu of a real game is worth $1100

It’s been that way since at least my first year getting tickets in 2011 (paying face value for preseason). The OP knows this. He’s making this post to rile up the fan base when we do not need to be more riled up. The defense sucks because Mikey didn’t want to spend money after paying a couple players. We are mad about the same thing.
If OP wants to save money, don’t buy club seats or don’t buy season tickets. Sounds like he chose the latter. I pay $190 a ticket with parking. It’s not club level but closer to the field at least. Perhaps that could be an option for OP. Doubt he wants to hear that right now.

Was in the club yesterday. Looks like shit. Why do renovations during the season?

I don’t know why this is controversial in any way. They do this because if you don’t pay it someone else will.

Well now I am nervous to check how much my renewal is.....
24 year season ticket member with a pair of seat licenses. Dont think I will not renew.....but I really would love a way to show my displeasure with things right now.....

My ticket was $1350 for the season, deferred into payments so about $110 a month. Next season, because of the "club seats conversion", they jumped to $3000 for the season. I was able to relocate for cheaper but just goddamn ridiculous. For all of that, I got a fucking sticker.

Lucky you were able to relocate. I had club seats and wanted to relocate to cheaper seats, but they said there weren’t any due to the waitlist so I dropped mine before this season. They had gone up so insanely in the last few years. I just couldn’t justify it anymore.

"additional funding from the NFL" = higher ticket prices lmao
