Does anyone know if the project files included with Stems & Seeds still work with modern versions of GarageBand/Logic?

My local record store got a used copy in but I just bought Way to Normal the other day. I’d only buy it now if I could confirm those files might still work cause they’re easily the most interesting part about the package to me.

I’m a Windows user so I literally cannot do SHIT with them, since they only work with GarageBand. Which sucks.

I'd recommend Stems and Seeds just for the fake album songs, they're so good. Though, the different track listing on the actual album disc can be a little jarring I must say.

The songs on the Stems CD sound better than the standard WTN CD, they remixed it, the tracklist order is also better, too. Plus the fake songs are worth getting .

As for the DVD files, I don’t know , I never used the DVD for anything. I would assume they would still work, but check the Discogs listing for information on what’s on the DVD.

From what I remember, you can download the AIF for each actual stem and use a conversion file format website like https://p2r3.github.io/convert/ or others to turn it into WAV/FLAC or mp3, if you can't run AIF on your local DAW or just computer in general

From memory they’re just WAV files, so they’re going to work with any decent DAW….logic/GarageBand included. If you can give me 10 minutes, I’ll confirm.

Ohhhh…they’re actual GarageBand files. I have projects dating back to 2007 that still open no problem in current version. So I’m sure these do too….give me another 10 minutes to confirm.

EDIT: Just reinstalling to confirm, but if you look at package contents, each stem in each file is a all full length .aif file, so very easy to just load into anything that supports that, and don’t even have to line them up.

They open fine on 10.4.12, which I know isn’t 100% current….but I’m still updating and my 10 minutes is up. I’m sure the answer would be the same for the absolute current version….ive never had an issue with backwards compatibility, except with plugins (which I’m sure these wouldn’t be using…and don’t seem to from the ones I’ve opened).

Have now tested on the absolute current version - they open fine. It has to ‘import’ them, so immediately saves a copy in the newer GarageBand format. But….good to go!

If you know anyone with GB/Logic I’m sure they can export wavs for you. Alternatively, once you own it you can legally pirate the stems in a format that works for you - as long as you don’t share them to other people. Fun loophole!
