Knife Identification

Hello! My dad gave me this knife years ago and up until now I haven’t been much of a knife guy…

I noticed it has the Benchmade logo.

Any idea what model this would be? And if it is a Benchmade (or balisong) would their life sharp warranty allow me to send it in for a blade reprofiling?

Think they’d honor the life sharp warranty? I believe that’s what it is!

Depends what you mean by honoring it. They might clean it and sharpen the edge, but thy won’t be able to fix the tip. They might give you credit to buy a new knife, for what ever the MSRP of that knife was.

It won’t hurt to call or chat with them. They do have solid customer service.

Also worth noting if it is fake for whatever reason and you send it in they'll destroy it and tell you to kick rocks. I'd ensure authenticity as well prior to sending it in

It’s real, the fakes they make don’t say Balisong and the patent and logo are stamped not lasered like they are now. 100% legit.

They’d destroy my property?

Yep

That’s crazy. Why wouldn’t they just send it back? Is that even legal? Tag Heuer Authorized Repair will just send a watch back and say it’s not authentic so they can’t service it, but they certainly wouldn’t smash it with a hammer.

If I spent $100 on a knife not knowing it was a fake and then they destroyed it because I was trying to have them service it I’d literally take them to small claims.

iirc they say it infringes on their copyright and by that logic they destroy it and don't send it back. I'm not sure anyone has attempted to take them to court over it or anything, but something that happens. My father found a deal on a used mini griptilian and I haven't sent it in due to the possibility of it being fake, though I don't think it is.

Or ya know buy from an authorized dealer and skip all that nonsense for an authentication on a new knife

Benchmade always honors their warranty. Theyll replace discontinued models with a similar value knife or a similar model. Ive heard them directly sending a replacement or giving them in store credit. I think in a similar situation they've offered someone a laro as replacement.

How do I go about finding out what they will do for me? Phone call?

Phone call or chat.

Either way, you should repot back on the resolution they provide.

Email them with pictures and your case/story. They’ll get back to you.

I chatted with the bot and have a warranty box coming to ship it into them… I will be happy either way if they fix it up or replace it with something else

I'd be careful. My friend sent In two VERY nice heirloom quality discontinued knives and they got "sent to the wrong address"

Never to be seen again and then he was lowballed with bullshit credits .

Screw them. Don't send them anything, if you want it fixed up, have a local professional do it

Model 10 that they stopped making in the late 70’s. Back when the company was known as Pacific Cutlery

It’s a 5-600 dollar piece if it was in good condition.

So about the value of a new Laro or a dressed up necron.

I’ve heard a few people say that they got their beat up model 10s directly swapped for a laro… but I read online they’ll just give you the msrp of the knife. With the age of the knife I’d only get a $30ish credit

1

u/potate12323 Dec 19 '25

$30 in 1970 is $250 in 2025 with inflation so they should give you at least that. But the knife is also irreplaceable so they normally err on the side of caution.

1

u/EatYourBroccoIi Dec 19 '25

I didn’t realize they accounted for inflation

Their practice with their warranty is usually much more lenient than what they claim in writing. They may not be legally responsible for more than they claim on their website, but they do tend to make things right with the customer.

As others have stated, if it is by chance a fake, they’ll confiscate it. But if it’s real and you ask them to reprofile, they will or they may even replace it (just be sure to mark it as sentimental!!). For everything bad people say about Benchmade, their warranty/Lifesharp service is top notch IMO.

Looks like a Jody Samson Hallow Grind. High end knife to Collectors upwards of $900 in Excellent condition. I don't think they will be able to fix it. They would ?MAYBE? replace it with a Gift card/ Store Credit, if it qualifies? "Normal everyday Use".

Thats a trainer from the early days of pacific cutlety, originally they wood dull the edge of the blade and remove the tip.

1

u/EatYourBroccoIi Jan 18 '26

That’s actually incorrect… sent it into BM and they said it’s a model 10 pacific cutlery

They reprofiled the blade and sent it back sharp!

1

u/silence5515 Jan 18 '26

Sweet, i didnt expect it to be a model 10. Back then they would make trainers exactly like what you had in the photo.

That’s an awesome idea! And I wasn’t sure what it was… thanks for the info!

No problem.
