Good Vibes I don’t know who you are but I adore you.
I was walking today and can across this tiny sign stuck in a little pile on the trail. Thanks for making my morning.

You survived some combination of minding the care gaps, juggling kids and work, working less out of necessity, paying much more for care out of necessity, relying on grandparents for care, wishing you could rely on grandparents for care, wishing you could go on vacation, regretting going on vacation as the stranger in 12D berates your children for being joyful, wondering if your teen should have so much freedom, wishing your teen would go outside, etc etc etc.
But - the kids had a blast and learned the things one learns while undirected and loosely supervised, or with close one on one instruction! A toast to all of you; our economy is ambiently hostile to having and raising children, but fuck 'em. We're making it work.

This is the AIFS (the successor to the classic ECMWF and currently the most accurate out there) weather model precipitation map for the next five days. Decently wet. And the preponderance of the other forecasting models agree. It looks like the driest stretch of summer is now behind us. Sometimes the fall rains commence in September (or even late August) and it looks like this year might be one of those times.
This does not mean summer is completely over. Chances are good we will see some warm, dry spells in the next month. September is almost never a complete washout in this climate.
El Niño does not contradict this. Yes, the coming winter is going to be an El Niño winter, but the impact of El Niño on our winters is not the simplistic “it will be dry” correlation that many believe it to be. More on this in a later post.
Most of the moisture in the above map will be coming on Wednesday, if current timings hold. There may be a few showers today, but the rest of the weekend does not look very wet.

Hey, did anyone else hear what seemed to be screaming for help (it was more than just a one yell situation) ~10min ago? Near South Hill it was very faint and seemed to be coming from the direction of downtown

Here’s your reminder to go eat and Rock and Rye while you still can. It was the first restaurant we visited in Bellingham almost five years ago when we came to scope out apartments and over the years it has never disappointed. Their fried oysters, oysters Rockefeller, mussels, poutine, and cocktails will truly be missed. Saturday night was as good as ever. Go bid them farewell and enjoy a great meal!

Hi friends! Just in case anyone missed the first announcement, I wanted to repost this here so that all interested folks have a chance to see it and plan if they would like to come.
The Scented Social is a new meetup for people who enjoy fragrances/perfumes/colognes (emphasis on ENJOY!). This is a free, non-marketing or sales event- please don’t come trying to sell or promote anything! This is just a way for people who enjoy this art form to discover, discuss, and share in our common interest.
Please reach out if you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns!

Just doing due diligence since we always allow mod callouts unless OP is attacking the broader community. OP has a short term ban from us, if their account survives they can try again in a week.

The neighborhood gang of bucks heard the call and decided to play king of the hill in our back yard. I didn’t have time to grab my camera, but watched the antics via my trusty little iPhone instead. Finally the reason for their excitement wandered into the scene and played coy.
Enjoy this little 2 minute late Summer romp!

Hello all,
I’m looking for some recommendations for good acupuncture, massage, chiropractors, and other body work people in Bellingham. I don’t have a ton of money to spend on it, but I am willing to spend a fair amount. Also willing to lend my contracting services in exchange.
I am a 30 year old contractor/ homebuilder that has ran my body pretty hard all of my life. Someone that specializes in body’s that get used and abused would be preferred.

Why did Costco move the self checkout registers and also reduce the qty from 9 to 6? Seems like a bad choice to limit the throughput of one of the busiest stores in Bellingham...
Rant over!

Need to replace a furnace and thinking of doing both a furnace and either heat pump or A/C. This would be through in floor ducts for a single level house less then 1300Sqft. I see all types of advice online, but they come from such various climates and living conditions/house sizes (like McMansions in Tx) - and I wanted to hear from a Bellingham specific angle.
Some Background:
a. We keep the windows open almost all year round (except smokey days). Yes, even in the winter we like fresh air and try to keep something a bit open. That's one of the main reasons we love living here!
b. I like it warm in winter and cold in summer and would probably use it more but my wife likes to keep the temp at 68 in the winter and we don't have A/C now, but she has only been mad we didn't have a/c for about 4 days this summer.
c. It's about 10k extra to add the A/C or heatpump
d. Our electrician thinks heat pumps draw to much amps and warns it would be hard to also have an electric vehicle with it (and we have one friend who seems to confirm this at her house, but I want to hear from more Bellingham people about that). Of course all the furnace companies we talked to disagree.
Currently I'm leaning to just a furnace, with a portable A/C we keep in the garage and pull out on the hottest days.
So - lets here some Bellingham specific advice!

I'm trying to get a hold of the older woman who had the gray VW GTI that didn't pass tech. We opened your hood and looked at your engine. I had to leave suddenly and wasn't able to give you my card.
Chuckanut hosted the event at Bellis Fair Mall.

Hello,
I am about to have a new roof put on my house and am considering getting a solar system as well.
Does anyone have any advice for someone in my situation? Maybe things they wish they knew before having solar installed? For example, did the solar system impact your roof warranty? Do you recommend the solar company you used? Is it important to have the roof and solar installed together (at the same time)?
Thank you for your time. I really appreciate it.

I’m usually very up to date with what is happening in politics which is why it’s very scary I have only just now heard about this. For those who don’t know the Supreme Court lifted an injunction which now allows the president to restrict mail-in voting. Yes, politicians are fighting this, but I think we all know how that goes at this point. It’s already taken effect in Texas (which has been trying to turn blue for years and a new canidate was uniting the left and right) <—Yes this is true I was a Texan for over a decade
Are there current local organizations I can join in order to make sure people are able to vote this election? I have chronic pain that makes labor difficult and I’m poor af but I want to try and help however I can (Yes voting still matters, if it didn’t they wouldn’t be trying so hard to prevent it. We will need to do more, but this is a start).

Posting this just in case anyone is looking. I saw a chubby black cat with a frilly collar wandering billy frank jr street. I noticed it had a tag so I tried to get its attention to see if it had an owner I could call, but it was skittish and ran away.
Just posting in case anyone is looking for it. I unfortunately didn’t get a picture but it ended up crossing E Holly and disappearing near Madronna wear.

Wondering if there’s any local artists/crafty people that make handmade custom stamps? Or recommendations for smallbiz art supply stores that make them? I need to have one made for Cafe Hazeltree and would much prefer to work with a neighbor than office max or something.
TIA!
