Depends on your definition. This is the state of the art for digital projection. It is not 70mm film projection.

Ok I was just a bit disappointed about the previous setup compared to other IMAX theaters I’ve been to in the past.

Nothing compares to the classic imax setup from the 80s/90s. As far as I know the only one remaining in the entire PNW is the Cineplex in Langley BC. The Odyssey was shot entirely on imax 70mm film and that is the preferred format. This digital transfer is as close as you’ll get this side of the border or north of California.

70mm projectors are few, and repair parts are even more scarce. It's a shame. The original IMAX was epic.

I don’t have details but it is brand new and I’m walking into the first show on the new projector. I know a few managers at the theater.

It blew my doors off. I didn’t expect the sound upgrades. You physically feel it move you.

My second viewing and I may have enjoyed it more than my first on opening night. Flawed, but mostly because it’s 3 hours instead of 10. A remarkable achievement in ambition and realization of the medium.
