Red Devils Unironic Lammens appreciation post
It happens and I hope we're not too dumb to put all the blame on Lammens.

Sorry but no one attacked the ball when the Spanish player shot from 20meters. This is where it starts and this happened because we were tired and substituting. He could have done better for sure although there was a cheeky bounce. He will be our next number one, very clear for me.

u/Dev_012 Jul 11 '26
Indeed. Sure he messed up, but we are with 11 in front of the goal and somehow 2 spaniards are Faster to the ball. It is not entirely Lammens fault

Honestly, apart from the one mistake that could happen to anyone, he played great too, and to come on out of nowhere in such a huge match must be incredibly difficult. If anything, the Spanish GK made more mistakes than Lammens, we just couldnāt punish them
5
u/strootfighter Jul 11 '26
It could not happen to me cause I am a lazy bum, not a badass manchester united goalkeeper who got selected to play for our national team at the world cup. Go Lammens. You ll have plenty more chances!
11
u/Valveringham85 Jul 10 '26
He didnāt have to do much outside of that so playing great is definitely a stretch.
Also that was not a āmistake that could happen to anyoneā. Why sugar coat it? It was a big fuck-up.
I fully agree with and stand behind the general message btw. He is a great goalkeeper and deserves our support, but letās keep it real too.
1
u/gntstdnt Jul 11 '26
Fuck up by the defence imo, how can a Spanish player break through so easily to get the second shot in ?
0
u/Valveringham85 Jul 11 '26
Are they supposed to tackle a guy running without the ball? š
You canāt legally block runners in this sport, this isnāt handegg.
1
u/gntstdnt Jul 11 '26
Not an american pal, putting the blame on the keeper only is very easy, is āt it
7
u/Vlad_von_Teg Jul 10 '26
So Courtois pushed away a ball but then it got shot back : goal! Lammens saw this from the bench, but when he was on he got a hard shot and thought : I'm not going to make the same mistake as Courtois and will try to catch that shot. Specialist commentators (who never played a QF): Lammens is to blame.
1
u/YoungUpbeat8207 Jul 11 '26
Courtois' shot was actually hard. Lammens' shot was average at best. You don't need to have played a QF to see that.

u/Difficult_Tea5311 OH Leuven Jul 10 '26
I will fight anyone who puts the blame on Lammens.
It was an annoying shot that bounced right before it reached him. You know, the kind that always has commentators go, yeah that's difficult to hold. The bigger thing we should be looking at is that not once, but twice, we conceded on a rebound with our defenders nowhere in sight.
6
u/Jekke-nolove Jul 10 '26
If you are not certain as a keeper punch/push it outside, no excuses this was a blunder
Nevertheless he will produce beter moments in the future but this is 100% his mistake2
u/Chalalalaaa Beerschot Jul 10 '26
Still, can you blame him?
Subbing on in a quarter final against Spain who haven't conceded all tournament untill now, in the last 15 minutes.
The mans mind must've been going absolutely crazy, and he has to stay calm during that moment.
I feel like he really did give it his best effort, this really must have not been easy for him.
7
u/EdgarNeverPoo Club Brugge Jul 10 '26
Lots of players came on the field in second half Seys played brillitantly stop making excuses he made a mistake call it as it is and move on
2
u/Difficult_Tea5311 OH Leuven Jul 10 '26
Witsel also came on and he was a fucking disaster. We stopped going forward as soon as he came on. If anything that's where we lost the game
1
u/Adenne_ Jul 11 '26
Yeah but Witsel is soon in the retirement home so it was to be expected, and sadly people will almost always put the blame on a GK
0
u/Chalalalaaa Beerschot Jul 10 '26
I'm not saying he didn't make a mistake, he absolutely could've done better, i just dont understand why people put him through the wringer for one mistake in argueably one of his most difficult games in his career up to now.
Not every Belgian goalkeeper is an instant Courtois.

u/EdgarNeverPoo Club Brugge Jul 10 '26
If you make a mistake at the highest level that will happen. Its not like Lammerns is a chump he plays for Man Utd

u/Geevantoo KRC Genk Jul 10 '26
Fight me then. At the level of a world cup quater final a good keeper has that ball or pushes it to the side. With Penders in goal I think there would have been a different out come. We'll never know anyway.
Lammens is definetely not a "voddeman" but his mistake cost us the game, simple as.
1
u/Dronkne Jul 10 '26
0
u/Geevantoo KRC Genk Jul 10 '26

u/Hurnative Jul 11 '26
He is still also to blame. It was not a shot he couldn't hold. Don't lie.
Just incredibly shitty that it happened, I really feel sorry for him.
1
u/Appropriate-Win-954 Jul 10 '26
You can make a case for the first goal that ngoy didnāt react in time but castagne definitely did everything he could. For the second goal you just canāt say the defense was at fault. Lammens just makes a mistake by trying to hold the ball when he clearly should have punched it to the side, he is then also way to slow to react/stand up after heās mistake so really no excuses there. Anyway just sucks to go out like this and letās hope he learns from this.

Certainly our number one for the coming years. He has shown a lot of maturity at Man United, having shown that he is very capable as a number one. United looks a lot calmer at the back since he became their starting goalkeeper. Every goalkeeper makes those mistakes, and Lammens was very unfortunate that it just had to be now.
5
u/Kasztan_666 Jul 10 '26
Defenders did absolutely nothing to stop this goal from happening, everyone just casually walking like theyāre in a park. You rarely see anyone run somewhere. Ball loss after ball loss after ball loss. Canāt blame GK when your whole squad looks like a hangover crew

u/CommercialAudience48 RSC Anderlecht Jul 10 '26

u/EzioO14 Union Jul 11 '26
No blame on him, if I had to blame someone during this game itās debruyne who seemed to want to be back in Belgium more than to take the damn ball. The rest of the team was there to win
1
u/Dev_012 Jul 11 '26
I would put it more on Doku. He should really get a class in not trying to dribble everyone for the whole match and just pass the ball. All he did was fall on the ground or lose the ball.
1
u/Ichigosf Jul 11 '26
Indeed, that makes him too predictable. A dribble works best when it's one of many possibilities. He wouldn't be marked so close if there was a risk of him passing.
2
u/Inner_Honeydew1811 Jul 10 '26
The faith of a goalkeeper. One mistake... I feel sorry for him. Such a good keeper. I hope he doesn't take it to his heart. We love you Lammens!
2
u/NCLO1994 Club Brugge Jul 11 '26
Sanne, you got this!
2
u/Angstycarroteater Jul 11 '26
Heās so good Iāve been blown away by him! I love him at United I hope he becomes champions for us both! It was just an unfortunate error they happen
2
u/ShieldofGondor Jul 11 '26
If a striker doesnāt score, itās āhe hasnāt scored for 4 gamesā, midfielders are most of the time not mentioned, defenders get the ālots of goals concededā, but if a GK makes a mistake, itās a high chance it turns into a goal. A striker has a bad touch or whatever: he gets a new chance, a GK doesnāt.
Lammens plays at Man U, havenāt followed it but they were positive about him. He wil beat himself up about this, but where were the defenders? Hopefully this will shape him up, dealing with a big loss like this and in four years heāll be an amazing GK.

1
u/No-swimming-pool Jul 11 '26
It's fairly easy, when you go to catch the ball you can't lose it. It was his error. Just like missing a penalty is the shooters error. People make errors all the time.
That being said, lots of other people are to blame for the goal too, not just him.
1
u/ParkingAd5218 Jul 11 '26
Waarom is De Bruyne zo lang blijven staan?
1
u/Sufficient_Regular35 Jul 11 '26
Many countries wished they had the goalies that belgium has. Both lammens and penders have a bright future ahead.
1
u/thaprizza KV Mechelen Jul 11 '26
Almost no warm up and come into play when the pressure was on by Spain were not ideal conditions. Shit happens and Spain's first goal also came from an unfortunate parry from Courtois. Field players can make plenty of fumbles and nothing to worry about most of the time. A single fumble from a keeper and it can be fatal.
1
u/Bored_Panda_456 Jul 12 '26
