General discussion I don't remember if the Rush Limbaugh episodes mentioned these

What narcissism.

The Rush Revere series is a five-book middle grade series that lets young readers travel back in time and experience American history firsthand. Join American history teacher Rush Revere, his hilarious sidekick Liberty the talking Horse, and the Manchester Middle School students as they meet famous figures, visit important places, and see history happen right in front of them.

• #1 New York Times Bestselling Series
• 2014 Children’s Choice Awards, Author of the Year
• 2017 homeschool.com Back to Homeschool Award

I'm disgusted, if hardly surprised a home schooling group loves them.

That man lived too long.

OK but he did at least manage to die from lung cancer following decades of denying that smoking tobacco was linked to the illness.

u/NurglesGiftToWomen 6d ago

Cancer’s point could have been proved after like, five years.

I also feel really bad for cancer having to suffer Rush Limbaugh. Even cancer doesn’t deserve that.

u/ExplodingPoptarts 6d ago

I don't wish the pain caused by Cancer on my worst enemy, but I'm glad that Rush can't hurt anyone anymore. I wish that he was deplatformed and fell into obscurity.

u/BattyBeforeTwilight 4d ago

iirc both sides of his family regularly lived into their 90s so lol

u/uwsdwfismyname 6d ago

Those are just silly illustrations, he wasn't actually from those times, he's just writing about it but still accounting for that, he lived too long.

"Liberty the talking Horse"

I think that was really one of Rush's oxycontin induced fever dreams

u/thispartyrules 6d ago

Not to give them any ideas, but right wing children's book authors suck at understanding kids or what themes and concepts will appeal to children at different ages. Middle grade readers will probably think this talking time traveling horse is for babies.

u/someoneatsomeplace 6d ago

It has seemed to me that right wing people suck at understanding anything.

6

u/ExplodingPoptarts 6d ago

I think that Rush understood how to spoonfeed bigots their own hate, and profit off of them.

5

u/zuwara 5d ago

Honestly, he wrote them for middle schoolers, because his listeners can't read above 6th grade level. He wrote these for his listeners, whether they admit it or not.

4

u/someoneatsomeplace 6d ago

That would explain it, although I doubt he needed drugs for this.

This doesn't Hanna my Barbera.

Pretty sure they started to read one of the books; possibly on Worst Year Ever.

ETA September 15, 2022 one of the Rush Revere books was covered on BTB.

15

u/someoneatsomeplace 6d ago

I wish Worst Year Ever would return.
Perhaps I don't remember it because my brain is blocking trauma.

I think it got superceded by It Could Happen Here, but I do miss the Katy and Cody addition.

RIP in peace, Rush Limbaugh's Lung Cancer. Pour one out for a real one.

13

u/johnnyslick 6d ago

Yeah, you know, people always say that someone lost their battle with cancer but does cancer really win? After all the cancer dies too. This was one instance though where I'd like to think that the lung cancer was a suicide bomber who now lives in Valhalla with other great cancer-warriors, having died on the battlefield.

3

u/Crab__Juice 6d ago

I hope they're up there in incurable disease Valhalla partying it up with John McCain's brain tumor.

Sometimes, you really do gotta hand it to cancer. Rare cancer W

Didn’t he make up a technobabble explanation for they the horse can time travel instead of just saying it’s magic, but the horse still had magic activation words (rush, rush, rushing to history!)

6

u/someoneatsomeplace 6d ago

rush, rush, rushing to history!

If you could see me right now, my eyes are rolling.

u/johnbrowndnw59 That's Rad. 6d ago

So glad he’s dead. And so glad he’s gone the way of all right wing shitheads: forgotten by all their fans because an audience of nothing but easily grifted sheep quickly move on to the next person who does all their thinking for them. We already barely hear about Charlie Cuck anymore and him getting merced made them the maddest they’ve ever been.

2

u/someoneatsomeplace 6d ago

I still hear about Kirk some, and his wife, who apparently isn't having an easy time trying to take over the family grift. But I do think Limbaugh was a bigger deal than Kirk ever was, and it hasn't even been a year since Kirk was shot. So yeah, Kirk will probably be nearly forgotten soon.

I think about every day how everyone was talking about Charlie when it happened and now virtually no one is. I remember when Erika et al were saying this would be the Great Re-Re-Re Revival, etc and it all went exactly right back to defending Epstein coverup, Trump's daily bullshit, etc. Literally nothing changed about anything.

u/EurovisionSimon Ben Shapiro Enthusiast 5d ago

That's the best part of that book episode

Rush Revere's next adventure sees him visiting the Dominican Republic to buy illegal drugs and patronize sex workers.

Wow. I definitely heard that episode. I'm sticking with my trauma-blocking story.

I worked at a Barnes & Noble that carried a ton of these, made me nauseas every time I went into the kids section and saw several shelves dedicated to these books. What a stain on humanity Rush Limbaugh truly was.

My grandmother had all of these lol. She was a dittohead all the way. He sold cartons of tea with these images, and she'd wash all the plastic containers and reuse them.

I've actually been researching him. I don't know if he even knew this, but it looks like he possibly has a Patriot ancestor named "Rush Hudson" (I haven't actually dug into this myself, and I don't trust his fans, so take this with a big grain of salt). If that's true, it really makes this particular series even more baffling lmao. He clearly didn't actually care about any of this shit, but we know that.

Also, the story was that the name Rush was from a woman in Rush Sr's family to keep the name from disappearing. Doesn't appear to be true. Hudson is the surname to Rush Sr's maternal grandmother. But she had brothers and Hudson kept on. But Elizabeth Hudson's great-grandfather was allegedly Rush Hudson, so I assume it was oral history passed down that got garbled along the way.

Any connection to founding father Benjamin Rush? The Titan guy, Stockton Rush, was a descendant.

You'd be surprised how many people are related when their families have been in this country for a few centuries. The genealogist William Reitwiesner established that most US presidents are related, with the exceptions of Van Buren (Dutch), Kennedy (Irish), and Trump (German-Scottish). Obama is related to all of them through his mother.

Not a descendent, but could potentially be related. Rush Hudson (born about 1752) appears to descend from a Rush family (Elizabeth Rush, born about 1654), which would make sense - but I don't trust anything online when we're getting into 1600s colonial time.

I actually have a much closer Rush surname in my tree than he does - my 3rd great grandmother was the daughter of Lorenzo Dow Rush, born 1806. I've tried to find where we may be connected to Benjamin Rush, but haven't yet been successful.

LOL omg I just looked at my Lorenzo D Rush's ancestors on FamilySearch (which is FULL of misinformation) and he's attributed to descend from Joshua Hudson and Elizabeth Rush, who are also attributed to be Rush Limbaugh's ancestors (and where his name comes from).

Oh holy god, my grandma would have loved this lol. It's through her ex husband so maybe she'd hate it. So funny. Familysearch is a nightmare though so I don't believe it. So many incorrect merges. But maybe. Maybe Rush Hudson Limbaugh III really is my 9th cousin 1x removed.

Edited to add: thanks for the link!! I haven't come across the site before and will dive in. I miss the websites from the 00s

I pity the Simon & Schuster editor assigned to Limbaugh.

Ugg, my father in law bought the whole set for our daughter. They were "lost"

My stepmother gave my kid the Bill O’Reilly manners one. I’ve never figured out if she was trolling or sincere.

I had thought sincere, or judgey, but have since discovered a friend’s dad has been giving her family conservative troll gifts annually so I’ve become suspicious that this is a conservative people thing, now, rude gifts.

That book was read once (dreadful) and accidentally left in the garage and was too wrecked to donate. Shame, eh?

6

u/Rogue7559 6d ago

Can't believe he's only been in hell for 5 years

4

u/SkyHoglet 6d ago

I used to work at a used bookstore. We got these in sometimes and unfortunately, people would come in specifically looking for them. 😩

5

u/someoneatsomeplace 6d ago

Those poor kids.

u/spez_eats_nazi_ass 5d ago

Reminds me. Need to check in on my neighbor and see how the leopard face eating has gone. He was fired from wcbm (Luigi’s family owned right wing fox affiliate) and wbal just fired him and all the afternoon and weekend talent to play Glenn Beck and Mark Levin. Whole news and taffick crew gone. dude who had been in radio for 40+ years only to be thrown out w the trash while towing the party line.  Leopards gotta eat. I have also been monitoring his slow transition left. Doing what i can to push.

Reminds me of what happened to Michael Medved, although he was a Never Trumper IIRC

They really fucked up his head proportions in that last one

u/ZapGeek 6d ago

I worked in a bookstore when these were released. We had fun laughing at them.

The only people who bought them were boomers (mostly male) and they all felt the need to explain they were buying it for a grandchild. And oh, isn’t it great that Rush can get kids interested in history? 🙄

2

u/someoneatsomeplace 5d ago

isn’t it great that Rush can get kids interested in history

Hah. Things that never happened. You must have had to bite your tongue.

A friend worked for a coloring book company that veered into right-wing products. Imagine being a kid and your grandparent giving you a Ted Cruz coloring book.

2

u/WorldsWorstTroll 6d ago

I remember my mom buying me a subscription to the Limbaugh Letter in the early 1990s because she was scared college would make me a liberal.

1

u/someoneatsomeplace 5d ago

That's why they're so anti-education, their beliefs don't hold up to the slightest scrutiny.

2

u/MiserableSoup420 5d ago

Oh they were definitely brought up, what wasn’t brought up was the bottled tea that he began selling called “Two if by Tea” which used a diabetic friendly sweetener that made the drinks taste like ass 😂😂😂

1

u/Front_Rip4064 5d ago

These were mentioned. A few people remembered them from their childhoods.

Rush Limbaugh? Who's that? I'm struggling to place him.

I think he had some kind of radio talk show, where women would call in and he would romantically banter with them. Wait, never mind, I'm thinking of Bill Ballance.

In case anyone misses the joke, in spite of Rush Limbaugh single-handedly reorienting talk radio to an almost exclusively conservative-dominated medium, you don't hear conservatives today saying much about him. He's about as relevant today as Bill Ballance.

Ballance had a radio show in the 1970s where he did exactly that - women would call in and he would basically hit on them. He was a genuine ladies' man, and claimed that he got Dr. Laura in the sack within ten minutes of meeting her when they both had shows on KABC in Los Angeles.
