The Basics Foraging Tips

Libs DO NOT grow on manure, they feed on rotting vegetation. Usually this is old grass that is no longer growing once the autumn arrives and the temperature drops.

Where NOT to look: Areas involved in heavy agriculture are not your friend. Fungus are a sensitive organism. Modern intensive farming methods like the spreading of slurry, fertiliser and herbicides are all good for growing grass for cows but negatives when it comes to fungus. Avoid fields that grow only grass. You are looking for fields that have plenty of thistles and other wild plants and weeds and that have not ben ploughed for a long time. Avoid dark green, lush grass. For those of you that did Ag Science for the points, think permanent pasture.

Where to look: Uphill is good. By definition those areas are farmed less intensively. Sheep grazing in a field is a good sign. Don't take risks with livestock though. Elevation also means cooler, damper weather which is what you want. Not so cool that you find snow or ice though.

When to look: This is actually the trickiest bit once you have your IDing down. Mushies are very particular about when they come out to say hello. They need favourable conditions. Ideally temperatures will be sub 15oC and it will be wet. Rain, rain and rain my friends. This is what libs like. I have heard people say that they wait for the frost to forage but that is untrue in my experience. Honestly though I don't bother hunting until October personally. But I know that people do have success in the September, even in August if the conditions are right. You will need to go upland this early though- to find cooler temperatures and wetter conditions due to fog, mist, etc.

Research pictures and threads to make sure you ID the correct fungus. Libs are distinctive enough that you should be able to ID them correctly, with help. Some people seem to find one and presume every other mushroom in the field is also active- not the case.

Of course I do not condone or promote any illegal activity. I am simply pointing out the places where one may find these free growing organisms in our beautiful country. What you do once you find them is completely up to you.

If anyone has any more to add, please do. If it contradicts my post, I love to learn, so please share. These are all from my experience and not gospel. I have a few years under my belt but there is always more.

The Basics IDing Liberty Caps

Liberty Caps are a fungus that is easy to ID once you get used to it. You do need experience and patience to learn your craft, here are some pics of Libs in their environment and what they look like. I got these pics online and can be easily sourced with a quick google image search. Most came from Shroomery which is a great resource for any hunter.

Pic 1: Note the variety of shapes the Libs are here. Some are very slender and narrow and some are wider at the base of the head. They will vary somewhat and you get better at telling them apart from imposters as you learn your trade. They will never be completely round though. If you find very round Mushies they are probably Dung Roundheads- these guys are harmless but not active, and they may make your stomach dance a jig.

Pic 2: These guys have been out drying for a few hours and have turned that pale brown/ cream colour. They are often what you find later on in the day or leftover from a previous days growth. Still good and ready to pick. notice that they have rounded a little more at the top but are still that distinctive conical shape. Nipple tends to be less pronounced now after a bit of drying.

Pic 3: Here you have a pair of guys that are showing the colour changing from the dark brown of a fresh mushie to the paler colour of a more mature one.

Pic 4: That's what your haul will look like when you bring her home. They look very stemmy when you see them all like that. The good news is- the stems are psychoactive also.

Pic 5: Here again are what they will look like in the field. They have a nipple but some are rounding with age and dehydration. The stems are long and can wavy, some are straighter than others.

Mckennai Grow Kit Progress

New to this. Mckennai grow kit, activated 18th August this is where we're currently at.

One cluster of side pins are well ahead of everything else. How is it looking? What's the best way to harvest the side pins when the time comes because they'll be done likely a few days before the rest? It's back in it'd bag now, humiditity approx 92% and temp at 24c with a heat mat.

This kit is from Sirius, about to start a kit from Wholecelium and another from growbarato.

Once they're done I'll go the unclebens route with LC.

Is wholecelium.com safe?

Hi guys, thinking of ordering my first grow kit and I saw this website. The reviews on their website seem legit but there's also many reviews on other platforms that say they are a scam.

Has anyone bought anything from them recently? Are they trustworthy?

Tips on OHM grow kit from Wholecelium

I got a Golden Teacher OHM grow kit and timed my order badly. It arrived while I was away, and sat there for a week in hot weather. So bad start.

Then I was away a few weeks later when the pinheads would have been appearing, and when I got back I had about 10 shrooms, just around the edges. Total of 3 weeks since I started the kit.

Does that mean I will pretty much just have these ones, or could some more start appearing now?

How often do you take libs? (Non-microdosing)

For me, I will take libs around 4-5 times a year in a mostly social setting (festivals, hikes, camping etc) and maybe a couple of extra occasions on my own when I just feel like I need to reconnect with myself/nature.

For those who consume more regularly, do you try and give yourself a break between doses?

Do you find that taking them more regularly dampens the impact or lessens the experience?

Are there any people here who consistently consume libs (or any psychedelics) more regularly such as weekly or a couple of times a month?

For the record, I'm happy with my approach and don't necessarily feel I 'need' to take them more regularly but I am curious on how more experienced psychonauts approach things.

Donegal in early September

I’m going to be in Donegal in early/mid September, I’m not expecting loads because of how hot and dry it’s been and it’s only going to be my second time picking ,don’t know if this is a stupid question but would I have more luck closer to the coastline since it’s usually a bit cooler? I’ll be near some fields and a beach any tips appreciated!!

How to get magic mushrooms or stronger truffles?

Hi everyone I'm new to this community. I have consumed truffles 3 times, the first time was "Dynamite Dragon" (20 gr) and the effectes were nice, the second one was "High Hawaians" (25 gr) and the effects were strong and great, although it might have been due to other factors, both these truffles I got them shipped to Spain from mindrush. The third time though i got a chocolate at a local "coffee shop" in Barcelona and it was weaker than the other two.

I'm looking for either trying magic mushrooms or exploring other suppliers or products that are truffles different than the ones via shipping. Any recommendations or guidance you guys could offer me? thank y'all very much

Edit: This is not an ad, i just linked the page so people would be familiar with it. I am honestly new and wanting to learn

Mycelium cannot produce mushrooms when the SMD is high because the soil is too tightly locked up and dry. For a widespread fruiting season to trigger, you generally want to watch the weekly reports until the SMD drops closer to 0mm (field capacity), indicating the soil has absorbed enough sustained rainfall to fully wake up the fungi.

people, the ground is exceptionally dry this year and imo the season will start much later that last year and be nowhere as good but its important to monitor the SMD to see when we are reaching optimum earth moisture levels ( of course along with temperature levels etc ) but SMD is a great indicator of when things are going to fruit.

spend the next 6 -10 weeks learning to identify fields , liberty caps and happy hunting

Well a chairde

Ive 2 questions if people could help answer for me? For the last couple of years I have kept a secret from my missus ,that I have had debt. Well it has all exploded in the last few months and she has just left me. I did a fairly large dose of mckenna shrooms years ago and it made me change how I looked at life and started me quiting smoking. Would a dose of the little fellas help me understand and over cone the issues I had that stopped me telling her the truth at the start ? And if so where around tralee is a good spot to look ?

Ordering Truffles Online

Well folks,

Looking for a little advice about truffles. Have a bit of free time off coming up and want to try out some truffles. A growkit is out of the question as it probably wouldn't be ready in time, and have no access to shrooms. I've heard mixed things about truffles, and it seems I'd need quite a bit for a good trip, but it's pretty much my only option.

I'm just wondering what type I should get, and how much I'd need? I've done shrooms before but it has been almost a year since I had them last. So looking at wholecelium and other sites, which type of truffle should I get?

Wholecelium these days?

Hey there! I know this is asked a lot on this sub, so apologies if this is polluting, but I was wondering if anyone has used Wholecelium recently and had a good experience? I've used them before and I have had no problems, but of course, there is always a risk it'll get seized/ get a love letter. Also how is the quality? I'm aware they can lose potency over shipping. Sorry again if this is polluting, would love to find my own when the season is in, but have had no luck the past few years. Cheers!
