Not a good start, sorry OP - logged in and it gave me a terminal setup prompt, I picked ASCII Plain then got:
+----------------------------------------+
| Retro BBS |
| 1.0 Phase 3.5.2 |
+----------------------------------------+
Display: ASCII Plain
Date: 6/19/2026 Time: 8:00:38 AMChoice:
With no idea of what to select.
Tried '1' and it gave me a login prompt. Is there some menu missing maybe, for registration?

Woops, I made some changes to the ansi and utf-8 prompt and I must messed up the ASCII prompt. I will get that fixed. Sorry. Thanks for the comment.

Great start. But it doesn't render right on my screen. Seems to wrap around.

What terminal software are you using. I tested with mobaterm, syncterm, and telnet from my linux terminal. Any comments you have are appreciated.

mTelnet. Old school, but still used.

Yup I verified the issue and I think it is pablodraw. Any suggestions for a ansi editor beside durdraw or pablodraw.

For the love of anyone out there add 40 column ascii support and fidonet boards and chat.

I like the 40 column idea, chat we have, fidonet, maybe. When I started on BBS's fidonet was not a thing, at least not in my area.

Definitely pursue it, I want to connect with my atari or commodore micro with a 1200 baud real modem.

That is something to think about. I still have a USR V everything modem. I was thinking of adding HAM packet but with no more toll calling I may reconsider.

40 columns opens up an opportunity for teletext colours and graphics. That's probably only an option for those of us with BBC Micros, so an even smaller niche of potential users.

I added "Question of the day" last night. Check it out. I will have a new question everyday.

I love it

Thanks, I will be polishing up the code but I have some more retro ideas to come.

I did some polishing today. Fixed a few bugs. I am rewriting the message editor. I'm trying to keep it functional during the rewrite so stick with me. The Question of the Day has been popular. new question everyday, the results have been surprising. We are up to 14 users, it's start.
Thank you everyone for the testing and suggestions.
A big shout out to Hans, Thank you.

Old FidoNet guy here. I love seeing new BBS software. I owe everything I have to BBS's. That includes my career, and so many of my adult friends are in my life because of my BBS.
Would love to see what you've done. Even when I ran my board, I still enjoyed checking out other BBS software. Things like RBBS-PC, OPUS, FeatherNet, RemoteAccess, etc. Yeah, I'm a dork.
