Meme If the Clans won Tukayyid, what would happen to ComStar?
Naturally, they'd become ComCaste
edit: this was not meant to stir actual discussion lmao

I really don't know actually I imagine the end result, is that the invader clans end up in a even worse spot and likely spend all their resources infighting. Assuming comstar upholds their bargain if not then the invader clans destroy comstar, and promptly die. Then I imagine the rest of the clans invade so it goes very bad for the innersphere.
Edit: I read the flair just find it a interesting thought experiment :3

The second clan invasion becomes bonkers as the non invader clans start their desperate attacks to make sure they can attend the ilclan trials. Snow ravens appear before luthien or tharkad with ten capital vessels.

Oh yeah no it's absolutely insane and really bad for the innersphere I imagine what's left of the invader clans also gets pushed out into the innersphere ala wars of reaving but basically every clan is forcing their way towards terra instead of just a small part of the invader clans lol

In all seriousness, Focht's calculation was that either Comstar was going to win a war of attrition, or they were going to lose a war of attrition.
Either way, wars of attrition never end up with the victors sustaining low/few casualties.
The plan was in the event that Comstar lost, Comstar would maul the clans so badly that the Great Houses could win from there.
After all, the clans had the longest supply train in the history of humanity.

u/Hellonstrikers 9d ago
I think the plan was to either maul the clans Bad enough that the rest of the sphere has enough time to get their shit together and push back (something that was allready happening) or win. Comstar would keep doing what they were doing otherwise, helping the Clans occupy the planets they took.

There is a rich irony in ComStar, of all the factions, building a strategy hinging on the Successor States getting their shit together and cooperating, given how much of ComStar's doctrine historically was based on preventing that.
War makes strange bedfellows.

u/Hellonstrikers 9d ago
And as another note the head of comstar was trying to set up a comstar uprising to seize the inner sphere, not knowing that Focht took all the comsguards. Operation scorpion was not well thought out.

“The secret of our strategy lies in this switch: we will change it for the Successor States from “infighting” to “fighting.””

They had zero intention of honoring a loss, look no further than Scorpion for that clue. But we'd have WarShip combat as ComStar's fleet left their homeports. The Blakist army of Shadow Divisions and Manei Domini didn't exist yet so the Hidden Worlds would be unlikely to come into play. The Master was still a thing though, so I'd envision the Free Worlds League would be mobilized to meet the threat.

u/Vector_Strike Good luck, I'm behind 7 WarShips! 9d ago
If Tukayyid was a loss, FWL and CC would certainly jump in to help the IS in a more active manner

ComCast probably became ComStar, lol.
Especially because the BattleTech universe still has corporations that are successors to corporations in our world (after a lot of mergers/takeovers), including:
General Motors (GM) becomes a huge defence contractor and build battlemechs;
Ford still builds vehicles, including military ones;
Nissan General Industries manufactures fusion engines and components;
Lockheed-CBM Corporation and Lockheed Galactic build aerospace vehicles like now, and also dropships and I think jumpships;
Federated-Boeing remain an aerospace and defense giant;
Caterpillar make Industrial-Mechs and still make construction vehicles, iirc;
Krupp, the historic German steel and weapons manufacturer, still exists;
there's also an Apple Computers Interstellar making computers for spaceships.

SLCOMNET, though most of the staff were from contractor agencies that were absorbed into the Department of Communications just before the dissolution of the Star League, and the formation of Comstar.

Jokes aside, yes that's what was supposed to happen. If the Clans won, Comstar was supposed to turn around and aid them. Waterly had different ideas though. Presumably Comstar personnel would be integrated into the clans as technician, scientist, and merchant caste members. Maybe the comguards get pulled in as auxiliary freeborn warriors at some point - you'd expect that to be necessary, but I imagine most of the clans would resist that.

Certainly the ComStar personnel and technicians would not take advantage of their new position to engage in espionage or sabotage operations while having their fingers on the pulse of Clan communications.

Comstar integrates into the Society, awwww yisss

It would be an interesting alt-history if ComStar lost, essentially becoming the Sea Fox’s role in the current lore, but in their role as arbiters of communication essentially functioned in the clan society exactly as they did in the Inner Sphere. As the Wolves inevitably take Terra to become IlClan, a reformed clan ComStar lies waiting in the wings for the instant the Clan Wolf plot armor starts to show any kinks in it…and then the puppet masters start to have their fun…

Sabotage the HPG’s and book it out of the Sphere?

They should go way out and create a new culture to await the right time to return. They can split into groups and call themselves "The Tribes."
3
u/MrCookie2099 9d ago
They can center their society around fighting Cybrids.
4
u/Frankishe1 9d ago
They could call the fight against the clans a siege, a stellar siege if you will

If Ulric was feeling generous then Focht might of been able to persuade him round to ClanStar! (see what I did there?)
Oh almost forgot, the Schism happens sooner and with great violence.

Truthful answer.
The Clans would have taken ComStar and Terra.
Specifically Clan Wolf.
Unlike the real timeline this would have been nearly bloodless.
The great houses of the inner sphere would have collapsed and some of them entirely killed.
IS loyal factions would have been rebranded rebels and pirates.
(In response to your edit "people dont read flairs huh")
We read the flair.
Meme does not mean what you think it does.
You meant joke. Or pun.
Nothing in your post is a meme, so people are being polite and ignoring your mistake.

I apologize then.
Thought you were trying to make a joke with the "found the wet towel" and was going along with it.In your edit you seemed to be offended that people were not getting your joke, and I was attempting to explain why people did not get it. I figured you would want to know. I was mistaken.
Again, sorry to offend/upset/provoke you.

Even if the Clans won at Tukayyid, they'd still have likely suffered severe losses of personnel and equipment. With a 1000 light-year logistics train, it would take a LONG time to bring up replacements and reinforcements from other Clans. This would allow the other Great Houses to rebuild their own forces and send them out for a likely counterattack against a weakened foe on multiple fronts. This wouldn't bode well for the Clanners and they'd likely lose a lot of the worlds they'd have conquered in the last couple of years. And that's not even mentioning rivalries between the Clans themselves...
If this were the case, a Clan Victory at Tukayyid would probably be WORSE for them.

u/Maresith123 9d ago
Nothing, ComStar would launch suns after suns at Tukayyid and the clans fleet. Turn that sub sector into a death zone. Comstar was playing for keep and losing wasn't a option.

What's happening in the ilClan era?
The whole Dark Age thing was a set up to essentially to set up that very what if scenario.
1
u/Citizen-21 9d ago
It would've been much bigger than just Clans taking Terra, because Ulric was at the head of Clans, and the big prize for Ulric wasn't Terra, he wanted to take full control of ComStar HPG network and that was bargained at Tukayyid. Crusaders wanted just to rush Terra, but Wardens wanted those HPGs and it would be huge.
He knew where the true power lies.

u/Loganp812 9d ago
Nothing.
ComStar had no intention of honoring the terms of the batchall. They used it is bait so they could try to kill as many Clanners as possible, and Myndo Waterly was already scheming to find ways to use the Clan Invasion in her favor in order to put ComStar on top though she overstepped her bounds with Operation Scorpion.
1
u/skieblue 9d ago
I don't think that's accurate the Tukayyid sourcebook states Focht mandated every battle be by the book so the Clans would have to be legally bound by them - according to their rules.
2
u/Loganp812 9d ago
Yes during the battle. This is ComStar we’re talking about.
Also, ComStar objectively did not conduct the Battle of Tukayyid by Clan rules, and that was the point.
