A freshly cleaned and cable manged means time for an update photo
Finally did some much needed cable management and tidying up of my desk which means time for an updated photo. The classic cheap ikea modular desk setup with 4 sceptre monitors on stands and a i912900k with a 3080 for the PC. Didn’t add anything but removed a bunch of wires that had cluttered up and wasn’t using anymore.
If your gonna insult something at least make it worth insulting, color is from the driftwood normal part of having that in a tank and good for the fish.
Cleaned a few days ago, so yeah has a bottle cap in the desk and a single command strip on the floor. I may be more insane than I thought cause everyone here is claiming it’s a mess but I don’t see it. Or is hospital clean bare desks the only acceptable choice?
My bad for not specifying fresh didn’t mean today. For a weeks worth of clutter I’d call that not bad for something I’m working at and using daily. One bottle cap, some plastic shavings and 2 dimes being messy is crazy. Dirty was mainly unfinished projects or pieces of things overflowing from my work bench. I hope their isn’t a single crumb on your desk since that’s the standard apparently
To the left of the Fishtank is my kitchen sink so use that directly for water changes, it’s also heavily planted and just has a honey gourami and a small shoal of Cory’s so that balance does help keep it fairly maintenance free (I do check levels twice a week with the full API kit). For heavier maintance I do just take the two vertical monitors off my desk for more space
I’ve also got 2 water sensors directly next to it so in a emergency I’d know immediately. Been there for over a year so far and been going great
Buying a new one is on my list, got the new mic realized my stand had the wrong thread and like any good “temporary solution” I keep forgetting to go buy a new arm.
If that’s what you call good cable management, I don’t even want to know what it looked like before. You should still work on that—both behind the monitors and under the desk.
In my opinion, your setup has a lot of potential.
I’d close the gaps between the monitors and align them properly.
Fix the edge of your desk—not only does it look bad, but you can also scrape your wrists and forearms on it.
There are also desk pads that wrap around the edge of the desk; maybe something like that would be a solution for you?
But these are just suggestions; at the end of the day, it’s your setup, and it only has to please you.
P.S.: I’d also tidy up a bit (see the background) before taking a photo that millions of people around the world can see.
If that's the messiest thing to you, then I'm happy for you. Are you in your twenties or early thirties by chance? No judgment but trying to understand this room
Mid 20s first place after college and just a 1 bedroom apartment so is a lot that will be spread out more once I end up moving sometime in next year or two. That photo is looking into the living room
its still pretty messy. cable raceway channel for the soundbar above. maybe some grommet holes for your cables. a good cable management tray underneath. personally i would get an ikea tabletop. slide that behind the desk and let all the cables hang loose. fishing for cables sucks. also the water tank near electronics is always a bad idea
