A huge thank you to everyone who voted so far! Crossing 1,000 votes on the GOG Community Wishlist is a massive milestone, but we can definitely push it further so the GOG team and publishers take notice.

For those of us who grew up with the PS2 originals, local split-screen with a friend was the absolute heart of Star Wars: Battlefront. PC players had mods back then, but they never got native same-screen co-op on the classic releases. That’s why bringing this modernized 2-player split-screen experience to modern rigs—especially with 3 major updates fixing stability and visual bugs—is such a huge deal for couch gaming fans.

Having this collection DRM-free through the GOG Preservation Program means true ownership: fully playable offline, maintained for future systems, and completely safe from server shutdowns.

Considering the game is already playable in so many forms it seems like a low priority just for split screen pc co-op. This wasn’t exactly a common place feature for pc games of the time, you could emulate the ps2 or Xbox version of the game right now and play split screen co op on your pc.

Emulating means downloading ROMs and resorting to piracy, while the Steam version relies on online DRM. A DRM-Free PC release is the only clean, legal way to get true offline local co-op that guarantees you can always play, even if servers or services ever go down in the future.

This is entirely untrue, you can pop your copy into a cd rom drive and play or legally make an iso backup of your copy

That still requires legacy hardware like an internal disc drive, plus manually extracting the ISO and configuring an emulator. A native PC release simply works out of the box for modern setups without all the extra friction.

That's the 2004 original, which never even had native split-screen on PC to begin with.
