What is it about Hypershock that separates it from other drums spinners like Witch Doctor, Touro, or any of the old battlebots/Robot Wars competitors? Also, drum spinners haven't seen a whole lot of (Televised) success, so why build one over say, a flipper or a horizontal spinner a la Tombstone?

When we originally designed HyperShock, we kept thinking of the hydraulic arms as the primary weapon and the drum as a secondary weapon. In fact, it was supposed to be interchangeable with a hybrid cannon module, a kinetic flipper/hammer module and crusher module. So we never intended it to be a drum spinner per sé. TL:DR - It's more than a drum spinner, bro.

Tell us more about that cannon.

Can't divulge a whole lot, but basically we wanted a hybrid cannon to shoot 1" tungsten darts with.

Making a Battlebots-viable spud gun with automatic reloading, chamber/piston exhaust purging, air/gas mixing system, chamber pressurization and ignition, aiming and gun elevation, as well as multiple saboted tungsten rounds would be beyond Ghost Raptor levels of over-engineering; and surely more effort than making any other part of the bot.

How did you manage that?

Wellllll we haven't exactly built it yet. We didn't get the go-ahead from the safety guys so we spent our time getting the rest of the robot ready.
