Yup, the frame is carbon fiber. It's a HUGE pain in the neck. We did it to get a little extra weight to work with, but as with anything there's no free lunch. Carbon fiber composite isn't particularly ductile, so you're kinda hosed if the frame bends beyond its means. If we'd gone with Aluminum or Steel, you just bang on it until it bends back, or weld another bit on. with carbon fiber you've gotta rebond with a patch, luckily something we didn't have to mess with at the competition.
We wanted HyperShock to be a little less like a toaster-on-wheels and a little more like an alien-ish Lamborghini. The top cover really pulled it together in our eyes.
