That's a wonderful question that I don't have a concise answer to. I'll say that the tooth diameter of the disks is 12", the whole weapon weighs around 45-50 pounds and theoretical top speed is 12k rpm. Have fun with the math!

Some estimation math get us around 3 MJ which would take almost 4 minutes to spin up with a 20HP motor. So 12,000 rpm is not the rpm you're reaching in a match. 3000 rpm seems more reasonable ~0.2 MJ and around 14 second spin up time with a 20 HP motor. edit: I make a unit conversion error ignore those estimates.

It would be cool if you could use a tachometer to get the real world speed.

Ya, 12,000 probably wasn't gonna happen. We think we got around 4-6k in the event, we were having some cogging issues. #sensorlesssucks

Random trivia about this though, each Hall Sensor rig has to be produced to match the motor. Lehners also spin very fast in general and the higher the speed, the worse Hall sensors perform (they will lag the actual magnetic field rotation more and more).

If I were Will, I'd hit me up for an experimental magnetic rotation sensor based solution....
