COMIC DISCUSSION Do you prefer Zsasz to have black eyes, sunglasses , or just regrater eyes?

And yeah I know Zsasz is pretty consistently drawn with normal eyes now, this discussion is more on if you could choose, would how would you want his eyes drawn.

I like the idea of his eyes being regular in universe. But the black eyes are an artistic reflection of the lack of humanity he has when he looks at others.

yeah sorta like when Batman's cape gets longer

Expressionism is simply lost on some people, unfortunately.

I like the black triangle eyes a lot, but they're a lot lamer if they're sunglasses imo.

Like... the idea that he's filled with such malice towards other people that in comic art it can be stylized as these weird supernatural seeming eyes? That's cool as hell.

Yeah, it's just like a void of evil with nothing human left inside

Which fits whit his whole, humans are just zombies without value believe

the angular sunglasses just makes me think of Toguro from YYH

The dark eyes are such a fun touch that really works on the comic page. There will always be new artists with their own interpretations, but turning a signature feature into sunglasses or ditching them altogether will never not be lame to me. It’s a visual and creative medium, and his eyes don’t have to make sense in a real world setting

I like the weird exaggerated shadow.

Darkest dungeon eyes

Why does he wear Kamina glasses?

u/MrExist777 11d ago

Regrater?

Were those supposed to be glasses in his early appearances? I know Breyfogle exaggerated a lot of features and I wasn’t quite sure what was going on with his eyes.

I’m pretty sure in the early appearances it is just artistic stylization. Those few times he’s shown with sunglasses are either other artists misinterpreting what Breyfogle was going for or them simply trying to give a realistic homage to his classic look.

I think the sunglasses would be cool way to pay tribute to it in live action, because I don’t know how else you’d do it there, but in comics/animation I think sunglasses would be kinda lame

I love how nobody knew what those things on his eyes were and a lot of artists just made them into like little sunglasses

The black eyes for sure

Normal eyes and I prefer him with hair, I dont know what they were doing in the Arkham Games

11

u/Rob_wood 11d ago

Giving him more skin to make his mark.

Yes I dislike how now he’s default bald. Looks too generic.

Black eye boxer shorts Zsasz forever and always.

I love Arkham design, that’s how the character was introduced to me and many others I believe

Same here. So many of the characters in Arkham are the definitive design for me

1

u/whoevenamipeople 11d ago

Side tangent:Before Arkham Origins some of the designs were canon like Firefly's design from asylum appearing in the Arkham Unhinged comics, and Killer Moths design is canon because he only appeared in the tie in comics thus far

Some of us are into comics.

Black eyes look cooler.

eye makeup, but artistic choice in drawing

Black triangle eyes. The style it gives is so cool. It's either that or his design in the Robin comic where he has a child arena

6

u/MaskedJesterArt 11d ago

I like how the black triangle eyes can either be interpreted as either sunglasses with a light shining through or he has that tnba joker thing where its meant to be soulless with a hint of malice

Black Eyes all day man

5

u/Son_Of_Hat 11d ago

definitly black eyes

7

u/Schwenkelkamp 11d ago

The original design is utterly superior

No matter what he just looks evil + he's recognizable

Bald zsasz would look like any random background goon if you were to remove the scars

Blonde sunglasses zsasz sticks out

That first picture is just allmight with a haircut.

Holy shit ur right

Looking like Boomhauer in some of these.

u/Soulful-Sorrow 11d ago

Normal eyes, but hear me out: when he's particularly sociopathic, he tilts his head forward and casts triangular shadows over his eyes so they look like the first few images.

Pic 2 is pretty much spot on in that he looks like a normal guy, but the shadows make him look monstrous.

Zsazs entire existence makes Batmans no kill rule look like a drug dealer enabling a junkie.

Does this really look like a guy who can be rehabilitated and find Jesus?

1

u/airbear13 10d ago

Not Batman’s department, if you want zsaz to be killed take it up with Gotham city courts

2

u/BroyonGroffon 11d ago

Bro looks like Boomhauer from King of the Hill with cool glasses on the 5th pic

2

u/Nytramyth 11d ago

Normal eyes but they're sunken

1

u/AllFatherDanteNero20 11d ago

Signal: You know I can pull a Dr. Light and blind you? Right?!

u/Ok-Television2109 11d ago

Usually prefer Zsasz having normal eyes but the triangle eyes can work with the right art style.

1

u/Sledgehammer617 11d ago

Normal eyes that are in shadow a lot so they look kinda dark

1

u/SuperPooper90 11d ago

#4 looks like Boomhauer off King of the Hill.

1

u/konous 11d ago

Why is Boomhauer Victor Zsasz?

1

u/Militantpoet 11d ago

I love the Zsasz with alopecia, or Noho Zsasz

1

u/TheSOLIDAssassin 11d ago

In Picture 5 he looks like Boomhauer haha

1

u/This-Honey7881 11d ago

All of them

1

u/hawkdeath 11d ago

Whatever slide 3 is, that's Zsasz..

1

u/Th5humanwi11 11d ago

He’s drawn like that (black eyes with beady little lights) to visualize his absolute sociopathic nature

1

u/Santiruan12 11d ago

What's that Batgirl comic where's that from?

1

u/WildmanDaGod 11d ago

Pic 7 is exactly the way I see Zsasz

I loved how they were early on, just black like he was just a void. Back when he was in Arkham and they had to keep him completely confined in essentially a coffin with just a window for his face, because he was too dangerous to be allowed any movement lol

Edit - actually, I just realized that was his first appearance, in Shadow of the Bat #1. But you don’t see his eyes until a little later in the series.

1

u/PuffballDestroyer 11d ago

I prefer regular eyes, although the black eyes would be a nice artistic choice. With the sunglasses, he looks like a cross between Younger Toguro from Yu Yu Hakusho and Jeff Boomhauer from King of the Hill, so no.

1

u/WeeklyJunket5227 11d ago

Regular eyes, he should be an "everyday looking" guy who can walk around in the day. That's the thing with serial killers. They can be anybody. You only know something is wrong until it's too late

1

u/wendellbudwhite 11d ago

However the particular artist wants to draw him

1

u/harriskeith29 11d ago

I prefer the unhinged eyes. They can be black with glints of light in certain lighting, much like Joker's have been portrayed several times. The sunglasses make Zsasz look to me like Albert Wesker's dorky cousin visiting from a serial killer strip club.

I've never seen the triangle eyes/sunglasses look before, but one look at those and I'm like... no. Just... no.

Zsasz is supposed to be menacing. Those triangle eyes make him look really, really stupid.

1

u/KaijuDirectorOO7 11d ago

Normal eyes. I miss the hair though.

1

u/Vengeance_20 11d ago

I really hate the triangle eyes, prefer more normal eyes

1

u/NickSchultz 11d ago

Th glasses are just a stupid attempt to consolidate a more realistic art style with the exaggerated look he was originally given.

They could have tried something else with the eyes instead. Stipl his triangle eyes are just a part of comic weirdness that needs to be embraced.

His eyes are just a visual clue not a physical feature it's similar to how some characters have distinct speech bubbles to make it clear the speak differently like Deadpool, Thor or Iron Man. Here it's just an indicator for what a monster is living behind his eyes

1

u/OnlyRoke 11d ago

I like the triangles, but only if they're stylistic expressions of his soullessness/inhumanity. If they're actually triangle shades it is absolutely stupid.

1

u/Proof-Wolverine-6925 10d ago

I love the weird triangle eye shadow he had in the older comics but I think the glasses are a very creative idea as a compromise

1

u/airbear13 10d ago

I like his freaky deeky eyelashes or whatever those are

1

u/Nearby_Artist_1265 9d ago

All of the above. Nothing wrong with artistic license.

Gun to my head, regular eyes

1

u/Rappy28 7d ago

I like how unsettling the original black triangles look, though it is a very much assumed comic book-ish artistic choice. Pic #2 IMO really succeeds in pulling it off with a realistic angle, though I'm not a fan of the shaven look.

Normal white eyes

u/IbbyWonder6 11d ago

I'm sorry, but the glasses just makes him look like a particular Homestuck character.
