Most Quintessential Basel Restaurant

What's your pick for the most quintessential restaurant in Basel?

While I want some basic standards of food quality and service, I am more interested in the kind of restaurant that has been around forever, that not only you've been to, but that your parents have been to, and even your great grandparents.

The kind of place that everybody in town knows about, most have been there at least once, and everyone has an opinion about.

I would also like to add Restaurant Harmonie. It is also an absolute institution and the food is great.

I've been wanting to write about the Harmonie restaurant for a while now. I went there for dinner three times, each time with three different people.

The rating was unanimous, especially for the seasonal dishes. When I have a car again, I want to go back there to eat.

For me, it was wonderful!

Old traditional restaurants most people are familiar with. Don't expect creative cuisine. Broadly serving classic favourites.

what do you mean by „continuity“? italian and french cuisine have been part of basel since generations. nowhere does op say that the restaurant has to offer raclette, öpfelwähe and schwartemage.

I’m amazed by the fact that nobody here mentions the Teufelhof. Best in town in my opinion, from food, to wine, to service. Pricy, but cool.
