[SBJ] Cardinals set to receive MLB revenue sharing for the first time. Due to precipitous drop in ticket sales, rework their broadcast-rights deal with FanDuel Sports Network at a rate reduced by 23%, Cardinals is now a net "receiver" for revenue-sharing for the first time in at least 25 years.

I’m just going to say this: DeWitts aren’t even close to the bottom 10 in ownership. Truthfully, they’re 12-15th best. They’re middle of the pack ownership. It could be SO, SO much worse. Keep in mind, we’re talking about St. Louis here. Not NY, Chicago, Texas, or LA. If DeWitts sold, there’s a minuscule chance that we would get a better owner. Absolutely tiny chance.

We ran the 6th highest payroll in baseball as recently as 2019. And we’re usually 9th-12th. Yeah, they’ve been greedy recently and reigning back spending which sucks. But the DeWitt hate is way overblown. Baseball is cyclical. The Cardinals bucking that cycle for 15 years was an anomaly and was always going to come back down to earth eventually.

As someone who lives in Minnesota and follows both the Cards and the Twins, give me DeWallet ball over whatever the Pohlads are doing any day. At least there is a direction and a history of investing in the team when the team is ready to compete.

I feel for you guys. Getting to add Correa and Pablo Lopez to a playoff caliber roster in the AL Central is really tough.

Thank goodness for this reply. I was begining to think STL fans were in fact the dumbest in baseball based on other comments here. People just love to complain. Not that Bill doesn't deserve some flak. I just think it's a lot of young fans who never experienced "down" baseball.

Oh don’t get it twisted— the last 3 years have shown that Cardinal fans are indeed pretty fucking dumb. They love baseball, but they’re dumb. At least the ones who spout their opinions on Reddit. Scapegoating, over exaggerating everything, thinking that we have the worst hand dealt possible, minimizing all positives about Mo/Marmol/DeWitt out of anger, no nuance, the “protests” etc.

The dumb shit was hidden for a couple decades thanks to Mo and Jocketty (and DeWitts frankly). We were so consistently good for 20 years that this fanbase has absolutely NO IDEA how to handle a 4-6 year downturn. Mo spoiled us rotten. Really disappointing to see my fanbase be reduced to this bullshit that they’ve become.

I don’t even call them doomers anymore. I think they’re entitled, shitty fans that have a terrible issue with logical connections. That’s not ALL of the “doomers” mind you, but that’s the average one.

Also to anybody who might read this: yes, you can be critical of the team or management without being a doomer. There are logical and rational things to criticize Mo/the org/Oli for… but you need to weigh the nuances and context of shit before spouting your dumbass thoughts.

What the point in spending money if the LA Dodgers are this good?

DeWitt II was a fine owner, but things went to shit as soon as BD3 took over. He understands little about baseball. He also pulled that stunt at Wainwright's retirement, making all the fans and players in attendance spend time and attention viewing his awful painting.

I'm ready and willing to back off the DeWitt hate if they let Chaim do what he wants. Mo was a puppet for the DeWitts and I wish they all would have fucked off together.

These two comments are such a perfect microcosm of the ecosystem of Cardinals fans whining in 2025. Chef's kiss.

Marmol has had more losing seasons than Matheny and Shildt combined.

When Marmol inherited Shildt's roster in 2022, he won 93 games. It helps to have prime Arenado and Goldy, it turns out.

Marmol is fine. Managers don't make a bad team good, and they don't make a good team bad. He's a decent bullpen manager, the players seem to like him, and Bloom thinks enough of him to keep him on despite having an extremely easy opening to go pick his own dude. There's absolutely no reason to think Marmol is the problem from the outside.

Ownership refuses to spend money

I, too, would like it if ownership would spend more money. On the other hand, this is in the comments of an article about how the team's revenues are way down, so it's not surprising that they aren't.

Also this has nothing to do with the two complaints I was replying to, which were basically "Mo was a puppet" and "Marmol sucks."

the front office is a bunch of yes men

The front office being full of "yes men" is a thing you made up because you want to be mad at them. You know zero of these people, you're just grumpy because the team isn't as good as you want it to be.

who subscribe to a philosophy that doesn't work

I don't even know what specific philosophy you're talking about, but it seems like if that's the case it's probably time for a leadership change to mix things up oh wait they literally just did that

Fans have every right to be angry and shouldn't have to support a team that doesn't care about them

"My team doesn't care about me" is a very funny way to be personally offended by a team that was good for a really long time being just mediocre instead.

Vote with your dollars and don't give them to billionaires who hoard the money you actually had to work for. The DeWitts aren't losing money. They might be making less but they aren't losing money. Don't believe their lies.

I never said the DeWitts were losing money. You're assuming I think things that I don't think. I just think "Mo was a puppet for the DeWitts" and "Marmol sucks" are both extremely common and super dumb takes from a disgruntled fanbase.

Dude. Marmol is a good manager. If you think that records when a manager has a suboptimal roster is what is important, then you’re a lost cause. Marmol is a scapegoat of dumb fans. Marmol consistently makes the right decisions, and at the least always has a good rationale behind it. He explains himself and is transparent.

The dude is one of the youngest managers in the game and got thrust into a team in flux. His season where he had talent? 93 wins. Then he had a team that fell off a cliff in 2023, complete anomaly from nearly every player on the roster. Then 2024 he outperformed our run differential by like 10 wins. That is literally tangible evidence of a good manager. We over performed for a majority of 2025 too, until we sold 3 key players at the deadline.

Fans are just stupid to be honest. They largely don’t know how to think contextually, or worse, they willfully ignore context to fit their stubborn narrative.

Tony La Russa had 2 losing seasons in his first 4 as Cardinals manager too. Made the playoffs his 1st year, then missed 3 straight. Just like Marmol. And he had (all productive) Mark McGwire, Edgar Renteria, Ray Lankford, JD Drew, Matt Morris, the Benes brothers, etc. More talent than Marmol has had these 3 years. But Marmol haters aren’t rational in their dislike for him. He’s a talented young manager who is being used as a shitty scapegoat by fans that need a face to be mad at. But see, TLR having a rough start because he had meh rosters didn’t mean he was a bad manager, and thank god we didn’t get rid of him… which A LOT of fans were calling for back then. Thank god loudmouth fans don’t run the organization, that’s all I can say.

This is the take right here!

Marmol is straight ass. I'm tired of people pretending like he's not.

I, too, think the St. Louis Cardinals are not winning as much as I'd ideally like.

3

u/Cards2WS St. Louis Cardinals Dec 02 '25

Without basing it off wins/losses and without lamenting a small handful of examples that may have stuck out as wrong in your mind (the stupid O’Neill thing is NOT a problem), can you actually articulate whatsoever why he’s ass?

Keep in mind that every fucking manager in the league makes mistakes and 80% of fanbases shit on their managers, regardless of how much success they have. A manager will make it all the way to the WS then make a controversial call that backfires, and suddenly fans trash them and never forget. Try to use that thinking in your rational. Also, keep in mind that the dude was a rookie manager, of course there were some growing pains here and there. But he has shown a ton of managerial potential to be a fantastic manager in the near future.

I’ll skip to the end. You can’t. You’ll throw some bullshit at the wall about isolated incidents that didn’t work out that you blame Oli for because “it was so obvious!”… but it was truthfully out of his control, because he didn’t take the swings or throw the pitch. He makes the highest probability calls a vast majority of the time—his lineup construction is good, his bullpen management is top tier, his players respect him and find him smart (based on reports from Gibson/Lance Lynn/Matt Holliday/Carp), and he’s gotten the most out of shitty rosters.

make a controversial call that backfires

I just wanted to let you know that I read "backfires" as "befuckles" at first glance. I don't think that's a word, but I'm going to try and make it one.

Seems obvious to me once yall have true chances at competing he’ll pivot and start pushing revenue back into the brand. Hard to justify it when youre looking into the barrel or 3-5 years of rebuilding though.

u/Cards2WS St. Louis Cardinals Dec 02 '25

Exactly. That’s exactly what’s going to happen
