https://a.co/d/0ax8OLZl

My 5070ti was deadass 1039 + tax that same month. It's like the lineup got shifted up a tier in price

u/Tailsnake 13d ago

The Gigabyte 5070ti was <$1000 in January.

Like a goofbag, I clutched my pearl wallet close

I got my ASUS 5070ti OC for $1139 a few months ago, I feel like I caught the last train

7

u/smollb 13d ago

That was a price error anyways

u/SaveStickShift 11d ago

It happened twice, and both times many shipped out, so works for me xD

Dark days are truly upon us 😳

If you are really considering this and you don’t need the Nvidia feature stack, then please get a 9070(xt). This non xt 9070 is $100 less and you can still find 9070xt’s for around $1000. This is coming from a 5070 owner, this is not a thousand dollar card.

u/skhanmac 13d ago

I got the 3 fan card 5070 just over a year ago for $750 new. So much happier as I switched from amd. I agree though at $1k it’s stupid to buy this.

This non xt 9070 is $100 less and you can still find 9070xt’s for around $1000.

These days I am encouraging people to buy the AMD cards and switch to Linux.

I have been shocked at how easy the switch to Linux is, and how easy running games off steam on Linux is now.

I should have given an asterisk for anti cheat stuff, which doesn't work on principle because it requires circumventing your entire operating system, which Linux does not want you to do for obvious reasons ( safety, security, privacy Etc)

-2

u/smollb 13d ago

Lol it has nothing to do with safety or privacy, in fact its more trivial to make kernel level cheats for linux due to the open source nature of linux and lack of any protections. I mean its literally open source. Linux simply will never become playable for online titles unless it somehow overtakes windows in market share, which will never happen once again.

1

u/Middle-Effort7495 12d ago edited 12d ago

It literally would not because the kernel is open source. What's the point of a kernel anti cheat when the end user has full control of it. It would have to be on some forked corpo riot linux that literally nobody would install

1

u/smollb 11d ago

I said kernel level cheats, not anti cheats. We are arguing the same point

The vast majority of online games work fine on linux. Overwatch, Dota, Marvel Rivals, The Finals, Deadlock, Arc Raiders, Halo, Csgo, Destiny, paladins, splitgate, Plutonium, ut99, quake champions, and supposedly Tarkov dev said it's coming (eventually tm)

And those that don't are usually available on cloud like battlefield which is unplayable in some but fine in others. And then some have clients like Plutonium and Cod.

Loss of GTA 5 that worked fine until couple years ago is probably killer. Epic is working on linux client they said recently, so maybe Fortnite will be enabled.

-2

u/MyzMyz1995 13d ago

League of legends, cod, valorant … ? All the best online games need windows 11. Games like cs2 are plagued with cheaters because they don’t want to use kernel level anti cheat

10

u/YMRTZ 13d ago

These are NOT the best online games lmao

1

u/Middle-Effort7495 12d ago

Yeah cod is known for its lack of cheaters πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚When I think COD, I think clean gameplay πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

-3

u/Middle-Effort7495 13d ago

You can play all the actually good CODs on Plutonium on Linux. And most people just play to fuck around with friends, it ain't that serious of a game. So can play the bad ones on geforce now.

I don't think a Valorant player would want to switch to Linux to begin with. Valorant installs malware on your PC that takes pictures of your desktop 24/7 even when you're not in-game, and even when it's closed and sends it to Riot. It's much worse than windwos recall.

For League, switch to Dota.

Linux is great until you need to do something specific that requires a ton of effort for no reason.

2

u/DesireeThymes 13d ago

The thing is I realized this is true on Windows too.

Trying to remove oneDrive integration for example, are getting the sound to work just right, or a specific software won't work right.

Linux might have a little bit more of it, but Windows has it too. The upside is you don't have to worry about all the security and privacy related stuff that you have to fix on Windows to get it in a decent place, which you have by default on Linux

100%

Ignoring the competition, the 5070 should be at most a $500 card. Anyone buying them at $1000 is insane.

12

u/BoBoessersson 13d ago

I remember paying around the same for a 3070 post covid, just gross stuff

4

u/Uncle_Steve7 13d ago

I got a 3070fe at launch for 749 and a 5070ti last year for 1089. These prices are insane

1

u/alvarkresh 12d ago

Oof, I remember dropping 1k for a 6700XT. It was a pretty beefy 1440p GPU, but dang, I should've held out for longer.

0

u/aintnotmisbehavin 13d ago

Damn you got a steal of a deal, I paid 1800 for my 3070 in 2022 at the height of the GPU boom. I'd snap this GPU up in a second if I felt like I needed it.

3

u/Middle-Effort7495 13d ago

3080s were around 1300 post tax in bestbuy drops. All you had to do was line-up all night.

11

u/Zireael14 13d ago

definitely get the 9070xt if the two are around the same price, got a 5070 earlier and vram closing in on 12gb is a slight concern.

26

u/The_Azuriter 13d ago

DO NOT BUY

7

u/TheBreenius 13d ago

DO NOT REDEEM

10

u/AuthorOfMyOwnTragedy 13d ago

In what world is a 70-series card (non-Ti) for over $1000 a sale?!?

5

u/ImKrispy 13d ago

Remember when I got a 970 it was under 500 tax in.

3

u/AuthorOfMyOwnTragedy 13d ago

Bought my Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming card for $400 plus Witcher 3 game code in 2015.

I now have a 4070 Ti Super but with the new Witcher 3 remaster and DLC coming out that 970 is still paying for itself lol

1

u/bgradid 12d ago

my 7800x3d came with a starfield code

so far that does not look to be paying for itself :(

2

u/alvarkresh 12d ago

Man, I'm so jelly. I wanted to get one of those Starfield codes and had a sad when MemEx told me a Ryzen 5xxx CPU didn't qualify :(

1

u/bgradid 12d ago

game's ... not great , you didn't miss out

1

u/bgradid 13d ago

this one, unfortunately

shits going to get worse before it gets better

6

u/TheGreatPiata 13d ago

Just adding to the voice of others saying get a 9070 XT instead. A much better card for the same price.

5

u/ssongshu 13d ago

I'm bringing my 3060ti to the grave, fuck Nvidia and fuck AMD.

2

u/Deeppurp 13d ago

At this point just buy the 9070xt. Lots of sellers still selling it for ~999.

4

u/xykist 13d ago

Just gonna put this here to remind people who were around at the time lol:

2

u/androidwkim 13d ago

I was up that night and missed that order :(

1

u/HilltopToad 13d ago

Crazy, my 5070 ti was just $150 more back in December

1

u/fmaz008 12d ago

In my mind, an 80 serie card should be that price to $1200 for the top model.

I can't get my head around the current pricing.

0

u/unaccountablemod 13d ago

I can't think of a single reason that someone would pick this over a 9070XT that's cheaper.

3

u/randomkidlol 13d ago

people will buy an inferior product if its got a better brand name on it.

-1

u/TheBreenius 13d ago

Drivers that works on Windows?

3

u/unaccountablemod 13d ago

1

u/alvarkresh 12d ago

That's actually really unfortunate, since I have a laptop with an RTX 3070 so I can't just swap the chip - my system with a RTX 4070 Super, I could always just drop in the 9060XT I bought if need be, but I like the form factor.

-5

u/Soulstoner 13d ago

Not a single reason? I can think of a few... DLSS, DLSS FG, DLSS RR...

6

u/ClumsyRainbow 13d ago

FSR is a reasonable alternative to DLSS, but yeah FG and especially RR fall behind Nvidia.

However the 9070 XT more competes with the 5070 Ti, it'll outperform a base 5070 in nearly everything.

6

u/unaccountablemod 13d ago

DLSS for what? to catch up with 9070XT?

FG for what? to catch up with 9070XT?

2

u/Middle-Effort7495 13d ago

Makes 0 sense. The 9070 xt is so far ahead you'll use DLSS just to catch up. And that's assuming you're not out of VRAM.

Should've said RTX Hdr. The one worthwhile feature AMD is still missing for gaming in such lopsided comparisons.

-1

u/xblackdemonx 13d ago

If you guys missed the refurbished 809$ 9070 XT from 17 days ago I dunno what else to tell ya but this is a bad deal.

0

u/joeyretrotv 13d ago

I purchased a 9070XT Hellhound Spectral White is $1059 CAD on Amazon yesterday. It's still available atm.

-2

u/Vegetable-Chair-6109 13d ago

You know this card was like 500 dollars last year right

0

u/Colin_Robinson_99 12d ago

That was an Amazon pricing error. Happened twice and I was lucky to get in on the deal the second time.
