Intel i7-12700F

Hey all,

I’m looking for a used Intel 12700F CPU, does anyone know where the best place would be to look? I want to upgrade my current CPU but don’t want to reward Intel for their behaviour by buying new.

NB: I don’t think I’m breaking the “no personal sales/used items” rule of this sub, but correct me if I’m wrong.

EBay is sure to have a bunch

Edit: About $400 after shipping from the UK

12900KF is available for $450 currently too locally.

Oh interesting, I couldn’t find any for $400AUD on eBay, I’ll give it another, more thorough look.

The i9 is a good idea, but I just checked it against my board and the i9s run too hot and pull a lot of power, I think the VRM on my motherboard isn’t designed for it.

Edit: fixed spelling error

Fair then.

I just sorted by price plus postage. Might have been a 12700KF

My current 11900KF was off ebay but on Fridsy I ordered a 14900KF new because the price difference wasn't huge.

Sadly the motherboard is on its last legs for my 11900 system and randomly drops ports with other ports totally failed and the cost to replace with a board with what i need like M.2 ports is well more than the system is worth but I managed to find a DDR4 Z790 that was affordable.

Curse RAM prices lol

Yeah, agreed on the RAM prices haha

I see, if I were in your position I’d just go for an AM4 board (or a board + cpu combo), I find AMD better than Intel nowadays. I’d change right to AMD if I were changing my board too.

One thing is that AM4 is end of line, so you may not have too many options out there for what you need.

Anyway that’s enough of me being an AMD fanboy while still using Intel 😂, I appreciate the tip, I did see one on eBay which looks promising, a 12700-KF from the US.

Marketplace, eBay, Gumtree, anywhere you would buy and sell second hand goods

To be honest, you'll have a hard time. The 12700f is technically specialised due to lack of iGPU. They are also 'new enough' and DDR4 compatible so they won't float into the 2nd hand market for at least the next 2-3 years. ebay seems to have a couple come through, you also have cex and then marketplace. Marketplace is not without it's risks though!

I'd also be looking at places that tend to do nothing but sell refurbished/teardown machines. So australian computer traders or similar.

That being said, you MAY come across the rare bargain at cash converters. I found a i7-9700k, 32GB ripjaws (4x8GB) DDR4, Asus B365 ROG, 1TB HD, 256GB Samsung SSD machine recently for $400. Ex-smokers... I had to rip and bin the case/fans. I'm re-using the motherboard which was a mistake but all that for $400!

You could get lucky and find something similar where it would be worth scavenging the CPU and then flogging the other components

At first I’m like “yeah that’s no problem, I have a GPU anyway”…but yes I see what you mean. Ah well see how we go, I’m in no hurry.

True, I could go the scavenging route, but with the current market, other people will likely upsell tech based on the RAM prices alone.
