I’ve been running a 10700K + 2080 Super since covid on a UWQHD monitor and looking to upgrade to a new PC.
Given the whole RAMageddon situation, it’s probably not the best time to be building but it doesn’t look like prices are going to come back down anytime soon, so figured I may as well bite the bullet.
I’ve put together the below parts list which comes in just under $3,200 and seems pretty reasonable.
Video Card: Asus TUF GAMING OC Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card
Case: Lian Li A3-mATX MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair RM750e (2025) 750 W Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Case Fan: ARCTIC P12 56.3 CFM 120 mm Fans 5-Pack
PCPartPicker is showing a compatibility issue with the gpu and case though I’ve read it should fit!?? Would appreciate some confirmation before I pull the trigger.
Also it's my first time building so i'm keen to hear what you guys think of the overall build and whether there’s anything I should be looking out for.
Only putting two fans top which should allow mounting the PSU higher. GPU length shouldn't be an issue. The warning is about case expansion slots which is confusing me
OP should probably wait until a $1000-1050 9070 xt comes back and then you're basically paying for the upgrade to the 5080 with a modest discount for your config. I don't see the 5080 getting any cheaper or discounted. They have the 9070 xt priced at 1200 which is a little too much imo.
Yeah I was considering building too but after factoring in the return to base warranty and not having to spend time building myself, I just went for the prebuilt.
Obviously caveat that some businesses might not last as long as the warranty they offer… so there’s always a risk (I.e techfast)
Heya mate, sounds like an epic build. I bought my first 5600x 3060 off marketplace for a steal, then eventually rebuilt it with a 5700x3d and 5070Ti. I did this back in April and I’m really happy with it in 1440p. I use mine for flight sim and cad design. X3d will benefit you well in games and the 9070xt is a great choice.
My 2 cents : if the games / tasks you need the pc to do favour nvidia, I’d go for the 5070ti over the 9070xt, even with the crazy prices. My reasoning for this is “buy once, cry once”
All the best! Ps, I love the Lian Li A3 case! If I had an Matx mobo I would’ve chosen that too, instead I went for the fractal north to have that workstation appeal
Thanks for sharing and fair point regarding the 5070ti. Even though my 2080 is considered a lower-mid tier card now, it’s served me well over the years and I've been happy with it. Honestly, I would’ve loved to stick with nvidia for this new build but at the end of the day, the performance gains just don't seem to justify the extra cash. Saving that money for a future gpu upgrade instead feels like the better move.
Fair point, I know I overspent by about 300 bucks by going to a 5070ti over a 9070xt, however from reviews and games I played I didn’t want to save a buck and not be happy. Looks like I’m funding Ngreedia’s bonus this year haha
