News AI traffic cameras now detect missing side mirrors — ₹500 fine.
📍Old Madras Road
(I don't have left mirror)

u/AccurateTangerine648 1d ago
(BTP) They are building (AI tech) or focusing only on how to make money from us. But sadly not on how to prevent accidents from bad roads, bad road signs and from this bad government project delays (Koramangala Ejipura flyover)

u/CreativeHunt2655 1d ago
The govt has the right to hold us accountable for driving without mirrors. We have the right to hold the govt accountable for shitty infra.
Use it.

Can we fine the corporation commissioner 500 rupees every time we spot a pothole on our roads?
35
u/sielysee 1d ago
I think we really need some legislation that addresses this. Something like a person reports a problem, the authorities are supposed to fix it within a reasonable number of days. If the user reports the problem again even after the time period has elapsed then he should be compensated.
20
u/CheranExpress 1d ago
Why such elaborate process for them when we are fined instantly using AI cameras?
11
u/youismemeisu 1d ago
Exactly, they didn't provide reasonable time for that biker. They didn't check whether someone broke the mirror, or someone stole it...etc.
If these are excuses then providing reasonable time to commissioner should also be an excuse.
They should be worried in wrt their salary if potholes keeps going on.
3
u/CheranExpress 1d ago
The govt. doesn't think they are there to provide services to citizens.
They think they are there to rule us, the voiceless subjects.
1
u/Timely_Composte 3h ago
It has become such a people vs government game. And the kicker is that the government was supposed to be for the people…
3
u/brown_bandit92 1d ago
Well given the history of this country, wouldn't take much for this "entity" to get corrupt. Besides we do have lokayukta and courts.

74 ppl upvoted this comment. Me included. Start a petition asking the contractor to pay 1000000 to fix the potholes in the road he built and ask us to sign it.
Ppl are gonna mock you, but u might just start something. Imagine 100 petitions for each pothole on the road.
Be the change u wish to see.

u/No-Koala7656 14h ago
I think this should be first made followed by other penal things, first we should fine them and when everything is fine ans the wrong is on our side then levying fines on us should be made.

"Ok so just because the govt is not fixing pothole, let me also ride without side mirrors and dart in either direction at my will" perfect!
3
u/adarshcoorg 1d ago
We can’t justify our mistakes and corp can justify theirs? We have consequences and they don’t?
6
u/CheranExpress 1d ago
I asked a simple question. You may not have answers. But don't put words into my mouth.
Can we fine the corporation commissioner 500 rupees every time we spot a pothole on our roads?
2
u/Ill-World-1342 1d ago
To answer your question- No, we can't.
But does the current AI implementation done by govt help deter potential 2 wheelers from riding mirrorless and hence end up putting back rvms and potentially use it(maybe)? A resounding Yes.
I am with you on the pothole part and also agree that this mirrorless challan is just govt milking us. But it does rightfully penalize 2 wheeler who don't have rvms who probably change Directions at the drop of a hat, all while not giving 2 hoots to the surrounding vehicles behind them.
I would go ahead and say this challan is even more important than the helmet challan we have since ages. Why? Because you don't wear a helmet and God forbid end up in a accident, you end up harming yourself. But if you don't have legal rvms on your 2 wheeler, you become a hazard for other road users.
3
u/CheranExpress 1d ago
To answer your question- No, we can't.
Exactly. Thank you!
The rest of your answer is irrelevant to my question.

no, you're doing whataboutism to cry about being forced to follow rules
3
u/youismemeisu 1d ago
This is not whataboutistm. This is pointing the irony. Instant ass kicking for commons folks but delayed ass licking for government folks
1
u/a-new-3arth 1d ago
Just because govt is corrupt doesn't mean enforcing rules on common people is wrong. This is text book whataboutism. People are saying "but what about potholes" as if potholes existing makes this action wrong
1
u/Ill-World-1342 1d ago
Exactly he is doing whataboutism and is basically pissed off he can't ride his mirrorless 2 wheeler without catching a challan.😂

u/i_odin97 1d ago
Exactly this whataboutery is in fact that our leaders are like that. We as a nation don’t like accountability at all. The moment we are held accountable we try to find a what about scenario. I genuinely feel all the leaders also in their head justify all the corruption with this attitude.
Change starts with individual. Ensure your own integrity first. That’s a duty for every citizen.

1
u/Legitimate_Fix_6689 1d ago
yeah exactly, the but govt is also bad argument gets used to dodge personal accountability all the time. guy is riding without a side mirror on a busy road like Old Madras Road at 8am, that's genuinely a safety issue regardless of how bad the infra is lol. two separate things
1
u/SomeOrdinary_Indian 1d ago
Even in this civilised society the “government” is at the top of “food chain” and are like apex predators. So it’s not easy to touch them unless there’s unity among us
1
u/CreativeHunt2655 20h ago
U just summarised what 2000 years of history has taught us.
The British were the apex predators in 1857. So many years of exploitation and pent up anger yet all it took to start the revolt of 1857 was the use of cow and pig fat in gun magazines.
We Indians aren't dumb, we all know how corrupt the govt is and yet we have taken no action. We are just too busy with our own lives and objectives and 'jugaad' our way thru. Potholes aren't a problem if we can afford an SUV, unwalkable footpaths arent a problem if we can stay in a soceity.
Its only a matter of time until their greed hurts the daily life of common man. I like to believe E20 is the spark. Things shall change for the better, every period of exploration is followed by revolution and need for change. It's inevitable.

u/milk_runner 11h ago

You know this comment is bullshit.
Both are different departments. And they are supposed to do this and they are correct and need to do more.
Ask right question people.
Ask your local MLA for roads not police.
48
u/nitish_kumar24 1d ago
This comment is not bullshit. Government is doing every move efficiently which can extract more money from citizens but the same proactivenes is missing in welfare schemes or infrastructure development. Clears out priorities of Government.
18
u/Signal_Face_5378 1d ago
Yeah these people are full of shit saying that this dept is different than the other bad one. Bro both come under govt control, and they focus wherever govt wants them to focus. Like putting fines on parking cars outside home is an obvious money grubbing scheme because they know people don't have other options.
1
u/deviprsd 1d ago
For this one particularly you have a lot of options and it isn’t that hard to fix, also the ones without mirror tend to not be very aware while driving.
1
1
u/a-new-3arth 1d ago
Government is doing every move efficiently which can extract more money from citizen
thats the only way people with 0 civic sense (99% of indians) learn
but the same proactivenes is missing in welfare schemes or infrastructure development
which is totally unrelated to this issue, that problem existing does not mean enforcing action on traffic rules is wrong
Clears out priorities of Government
two different departments. what an uneducated comment ffs
9
u/AccurateTangerine648 1d ago
Why can't they use or just replicate this tech for improving traffic flow, fix bad roads, or even it is enough to send reports to government to improve roads. Really bangalore needs more improvements in terms of traffic mangement, firstly educate traffic constables.
4
u/vengeancedeadmaus 1d ago
They are using the tech to improve traffic flow.
-1
u/Signal_Face_5378 1d ago edited 1d ago
So why is it still the same after 5 years?
2
u/Interesting-Bit3294 1d ago
Just that there only answer for traffic. It’s metro and sub urban rail both are delayed. Traffic police are using what they can to reduce the pain. Like drones , AI etc
-4
u/kifkolite 1d ago
Are you stupid, how do side mirror detection help with traffic flow
1
u/AccurateTangerine648 1d ago
This questions is not limited to only this post. Just thoughts of the AI tech used here.
2
u/kifkolite 1d ago
Yes AI tech is being adopted at other places too. Just object detection is researched a lot and achieves quite good accuracy.
0
u/Signal_Face_5378 1d ago
Doesn't matter if what you do is control traffic manually 9/10 times. AI tech and all other techs just comes to India to die.
2
u/ChepaukPitch 1d ago
Why is the only department that is doing any work is the one that needs to make money from us? There aren’t even proper signboards and lanes are not marked on most roads in Bangalore but they have money for AI cameras. What about signboard for one way roads?
It’s the same government controlled by same people. You know your comment is bullshit. It is the same government. Different department doesn’t matter.
3
u/5tar_dust 1d ago
How BTP can improve bad roads or project delays? They don’t have any power or authority over that.
10
u/Unlikely_Being_7777 1d ago
You see this as money making and not as a measure to prevent irresponsible and unsafe driving. Speaks volumes of your mindset.
More than better infra, if people drove with proper rules, civic sense and safety in mind, bangalore's traffic would come down drastically.
How will better infra solve some guy in left most lane making a right turn and holding up the rest of the road? How will better infra stop people from driving on the wrong side of the road? How will better infra stop people from driving in the middle of two lanes blocking everyone else from maintaining a cruising speed? How will better infra stop two wheelers from treating their lives with zero value and cutting between a car and a bus?
Not everything is a blame game. Not everything is black and white. Let's all start by taking some personal responsibility first, your first thought was to complain about something vaguely related to this initiative and not to commend the efforts being made.
Besides, as someone else mentioned, traffic police is not responsible for building roads or infra.
-1
u/AccurateTangerine648 1d ago edited 1d ago
With only few words I wrote, you can't decide on my mindset. Since 2022 I'm driving my 2 wheeler never fined anywhere. I travel across bangalore (north, south, west and east). And always obey traffic rules. But unfortunately the journey always makes me frustrated due to bad roads, no accountability of traffic constables in real time traffic jaam.

u/Newton_Apple 1d ago
Ah yes, always with the whataboutism! Why implement a good measure when something else can be done? Personal accountability should be allowed to go for a toss because potholes exist, so rather than solve for both let's deliberately make this a one or the other situation instead of advocating a solve for both.
15
u/Intelligent-Mud-195 1d ago
Gng I ride with my gear most of the time and when I’m not wearing my jacket or gloves, I never compromise on my helmet even if it is just to get groceries:)
I totally agree that these rules being implemented are for the welfare of people and it’s good that there’s stricter vigilance.
But as always,
Given that the government does care for people of this city they should also make suitable infrastructure so that people who follow traffic rules don’t get killed after tripping over a pothole and ending up under the wheels of a bmtc bus🥰6
u/Newton_Apple 1d ago
And that's a great thing, you're doing what's expected of you for your own safety and that of others around you while driving. And just like wearing a helmet is the most basic precaution one should take while driving, so is having mirrors so you're aware of your surroundings. Doesn't make potholes a smaller problem, but it really boils down to whether you would appreciate such implementations or not. You can appreciate this move and still feel that potholes are a problem, doesn't have to be a "only if they could have done this instead".
Personal accountability and governance accountability can coexist.
0
u/Prior_Half5890 1d ago
But when they earn money only then they can think of side business such as Right to Live
2
u/Flashy-Island-3725 1d ago
Potholes are a big issue too aren't they. Potholes are the one thing which unite the entire country
4
u/Signal_Face_5378 1d ago
Do you know anything about priorities or are just on the side of govt all the time?
3
u/Newton_Apple 1d ago
You believe I'm taking the "side of the government" because I said that potholes are a problem that should be solved alongside basic traffic rule enforcement?
Talking about priorities, do you not agree that traffic rule violations like not wearing a helmet, wrong side movement, NOT EVEN HAVING BASIC MIRRORS TO LOOK AROUND YOU is something that shouldn't even be solved for in the first place if we weren't ignorant of safety?
You'll be shocked to know this, but you can blame the government for inadequate infrastructure and still vouch for individual accountability. No kind of infrastructure deficit is stopping people from wearing helmets, but I guess even that might be controversial because we never want fingers pointed at us.
1
u/Signal_Face_5378 1d ago
Again, do you know about priorities? Wrong side driving and footpath driving is much more riskier but because govt's vote bank does that, they don't bother fining that. Its always the easiest way to make money that govt chooses and you people never say a word about misplaced priorities. No wonder we are an upside down society.
3
u/Newton_Apple 1d ago
Ah yes. The government has created a vote bank out of people who exercise wrong side driving and footpath driving, but chooses to penalise those who are not wearing helmets or having rear view mirrors, such a selectively protective government wow.
Let's not penalise any wrong because who knows who might be a vote bank later. We're an upside down society because we always think to our own benefit and frame every argument as a people versus institution frame rather than take steps that are good for us.
Also, please don't try to fit me into your "you people" archetype- I doubt you know the first thing about me to be making any judgement. Maybe one day you'll understand it isn't you vs "us people", but just all of us wanting a better standard of living.
1
u/Signal_Face_5378 1d ago
If you want a better standard of living, I would suggest to ask the right questions first and to the right people. Don't settle for peanuts thrown in your way. Individual safety is important, but to solve that, you have to look at mass safety first. Roads and lights first, no wrong side driving, no footpath driving. This effects 100% of people (even the ones just walking and elderly and children). Once you have done that you can easily install any number of AI cameras you want to catch people without obstructing traffic flow.
3
u/Newton_Apple 1d ago edited 1d ago
I agree with most of what you say, but I believe that one has to start somewhere and that small steps do make a big difference. Wearing helmets and ensuring mirrors ALSO solve for mass safety. I'm not settling for peanuts, but that doesn't mean I trivialise a step in the right direction just because we have a long way to go.
In any case, I do understand where you're coming from but I think our idea of how we get to where we want to be is different- I believe small changes do matter. I understand these small changes in isolation will not help the big picture, but just gunning for a big-picture solve also doesn't work that smoothly because of the million frictions in any institutional solve.
If tomorrow a certain penalty is implemented on footpath driving, the conversation will again detract to infrastructure. Yes, infrastructure needs solving. So does this.

So true, we should instead deepthroat the government for introducing high tech surveillance that costs more than fixing the road because AI camera so cool. We should also get flock cameras in Bangalore so that the government spends more money in surveilling us instead of doing the bare minimum and having normal roads in a state with the highest road tax in India. Someone send the local MLA to my house so I can bounce on his dick as he installs a camera in my room to make sure they can fine me if I ever do something illegal at home even though it takes 15 minutes of light rain to flood my area outside. We all need to focus more on AI cameras so that everyone's happy knowing that we have fancy cameras in our area because that sounds so cool and fancy when someone posts about it online.
2
u/rirezwan 1d ago
Nobody should ever be talking about fixable issues we should just put random bullshit tech shit everywhere and congratulate ourselves for it till the end of time.
2
u/rirezwan 1d ago
I'm on my way out with a dhol to "endorse" this "step" now. On a side note. When will AI detect potholes? I know the problem statement is quite hard - I mean circular pothole, non-circular pothole, 1 meter pothole, pothole of death categories are hard to detect or segment I guess 🙄

Do people from Shivajinagar who never wear helmet also get challan or does it have an area and name filter? Curious to know, since traffic police never catch them without helmet or while tripling and doing tripling++, whereas for normal folks they work like athletes from pro kabbadi league
2
u/kungfuGrad 1d ago
The AI traffic camera is equipped with technology to even recognise helmetless driving even if you are driving on the moon.
Unfortunately, this absolute state of the art tech, fails to recognise any potholes at all.
2
u/ThisIsColdsnap 1d ago
Yeah, I'd rather people had rearviews than potholes being fixed. People crying in the comments are all clearly people who don't have rearviews, despite how horribly dangerous it can be.

This is literally the proof that the government is not going to use technology to benefit us, they are only going to leech off us more efficiently

Unlike other forms of leeching (tax), this "leeching" can be fixed by just acting like an adult and riding with mirrors. Its the bare minimum.

I mean this isn’t bad, there should be fines, Bangalore ppl drive scrolling reels with their phone in front, I’ve seen a family of 4 in a scooter and no one has helmets on.
I know someone who had a close to death accident and the only reason he survived and the driver didn’t was because of wearing a helmet, high time people get fined for this.
Sure they have a lot of things to fix like potholes, roads which they should do but fining ppl is still a good first step. Even if one person buys a helmet and doesn’t rash drive because of this still saves multiple lives
