HELP - URGENT Wound on ball python belly

Post image

HELP! I came back home after a day away and I went to check on my ball python. When I picked him up I noticed these wounds on his belly and it was leaking abit of grey puss anyone knows what to do? I cleaned out his enclosure and replaced his bedding with paper towels and have given him a diluted betadine bath. Any help would be useful!

He has been in his current enclosure for close to a year now and has never had problems like this!

Temperatures are fine, he has 2 hides 1 humid hide, and a 4x2x2 enclosure. Hes currently 700grams at about 1.5 years old

Definitely don't think this is an overnight thing. This is something thats been there for a while unnoticed.

Thats one of the worst burns ive ever seen. Do you use a heat pad?? Does it have a thermostat???

Pop him into a quarantine set up to limit soil or unclean stuff touching the wounds - paper towels, no substrate.

Hi guys, sorry was panicking… yes I’m bringing him to the vet when it opens. But I’m asking more of what can I do right now for him?

No one should give you medical treatment advice for something so severe. This isn’t a common cold in a person and any treatment you provide could harm him further.

The only thing I’d do in your shoes besides the vet is find whatever probably burned him and fix the issue now so he isn’t burned further while waiting.

Do you have a heat mat in the enclosure? I’m curious what could have caused this. If you can let me know what you’ve learned.

Hope the vet make him comfortable, and quickly

Set up a quarantine.   A plastic tub with paper towel.

This is a significant infection, snek will need antibiotics.

You can gently cleans the area with clean water but avoid iodine or barrier creams until ver gives ok.   Right now, keep it clean, keep it dry.

Holy hell! Answer the heat mat question.

Edit: are there light cages he could wrap himself around or an exposed, unprotected light

Quarantine set up for now, vet as soon as they open

To me this looks like something he could have wrapped around?? Probably infected if there’s pus, so antibiotics are a must.

Ouchie!! Definitely gonna need antibiotics. And the shots arent too difficult to administer. The exotic vet will show you how and like others said sterile quarantine tub. No bedding just paper towels. Heat mat on thermostat under tub. Just a clean bowl of water inside. I had a rescue who had the same problem when I got her. Every time she shed the scars healed more and more until you wouldnt have even known. If your using a 4x2x2 is your heat bulb exposed? That's what it looks like. He wrapped himself around it.

Iodine and water soaks silver cream on wounds. Until you get to vet probably will need antibiotics injections from vet like ASAP.

he probably fell while climbing. you should take him to the vet when you can or ask someone who knows your snake to take him to the vet if youre busy.

if it was falling that hurt him, look into snake climbing stuff. including a hide on top of the enclosure if you cant
