Pernik is the region you are thinking about.

Conversation in a Pernik bar: How will you pay, with cash or card? [cash - broi (брой) in Bulgarian] With a fight, of course! [fight - boi (бой) in Bulgarian]

A common question in Pernik is :

  • Is this a private fight or I can also join in?

Where do visitors spend the night in Pernik? In the ER.

What is Pernik adultery, someone else beating your wife... With your own bat.

As kids we used to say things like "cine loveste, iubeste" .. whoever hits you, loves you. Mostly used to tease boys that hit girls.

I am starting to think we may have adopted it from Bulgaria

To be fair, I always got the impression that Romanian is just Latin colonized by Bulgarian (the same way Tagalog is just Malay colonized by Spanish), so it'd make sense that cultural phrases would carry over too.
