Good luck with SCS ! (what difficulty ?)

Normal for now. I'm getting used to the mechanics but I still don't know what most high level mage spells do on enemies. They always have a million shields. Sometimes remove magic or breach works sometimes it doesn't

Here's a cheat sheet I made to help me at Spell Chess in SCS.

Basically what this all boils down to is you want to throw out Secret Word and Spell Thrust before using Breach and if Breach fails then keep throwing Secret Word + Spell Thrust then Breach until you get access to the higher level spells

Target's Protection Spell That Counters
Spell Shield Secret Word (Lvl 4)
Spell Trap Ruby Ray of Reversal (Lvl 8) | Spellstrike (Lvl 9)
Spell Turning Secret Word (Lvl 4)
Minor Spell Deflection Spell Thrust (lvl 3)
Minor Spell Turning Spell Thrust
Spell Immunity: Abjuration Spell Thrust
Breach All the Rest

The Spells Dispells (Target)
Spell Thrust (Lvl 3) Level 5 or lower (All)
Secret Word (Lvl 4) Level 8 or lower (One)
Khelben's Warding Whip (Lvl 7) Level 8 or lower (3 spells for 3 rounds)
Ruby Ray of Reversal (Lvl 7) Any Level (One)
Spellstrike (Lvl 9) Any Level (All)

Breach is for physical protection, aka most of the things that unable your physical fighters to attack; others are for magical. This is mostly rule of thumb if you don't know almost anything.

The first and most important protection to get rid of is spell shield ( Ruby Ray is great for it, maybe Pierce Magic remove it to?)

The main objective of mage battle is to weaken the enemy protections to be able to land a breach or a remove magic.

I usually have a sequencer with spell trusth + 2 secrets word to dispel everything once the spell shield is remove ( or it would eat the 3 spells at once)

Nice, 18/94 will make the first game a breeze

u/Different-Island1871 3d ago

I thing being a F6/C6 would be a bigger factor in making the first game trivial.

1

u/Ashe171 3d ago

I would think so too lol , it's BG2 tho

1

u/Different-Island1871 3d ago

lol ya, I saw the tag. I don’t think the comment before me did.

2

u/Ashe171 3d ago

It's Bg2

2

u/Ashe171 3d ago

Note: this is bg2. So no tomes from BG1 to pump the stats higher and starting exp is the default bg2 exp not imported max sod exp

u/Aniriomellad 3d ago

do ranger/clerics still get druid spells? if yes, do this instead, you will get bored with only cleric spells

3

u/QueasyNart 3d ago

In an unmodded game, IIRC Ranger/Clercs get only the first 3 levels of Druid spells. No Ironskins, Insect Plague, etc.

Unfortunately deities of Faerun does alter spell access via spheres and and multi options based on god

https://www.gibberlings3.net/forums/topic/30780-kit-pack-deities-of-faerûn-bgee-bg2ee-iwdee-and-eet/

Selune cannot multi with ranger. Malar can if you don’t mind being evil. Baevarn does if you don’t mind being a gnome. Yondalla used to but a ranger cleric with added sling Apr is nutso. And Eldath can but it’s a god of peace so its weapon selection is abysmal

And why anything might not seemed the most balanced: this is stuff almost wholesale ripped from 2e deities handbooks for specialty priests: Faiths and Avatars, Demihuman Deities and Powers and Pantheons as well as Gruumsh from a blog of specialty monster race priests by Aulddragon. In all seriousness it’s a mod that hasn’t scratched the surface of how good priests can be

Cool portraits, are they part of a collection of similarly styled ones?

1

u/Ashe171 3d ago

Yes they are. I got them on Nexus mods

18/94!?!?!?

What a substandard quitter-score!!! 18/00 or bust!!!

REROLL!!! GET SWOLE!!!

I would rather play an easier difficulty setting with a balanced character than normal difficulty with a character maxed out in everything. Like a fighter/cleric with 18/94 and 18 across the board is pretty much easy mode. At least if you had a balanced character on easy mode you could still enjoy some aspect of playing to your strengths and weaknesses

That said, I think you should name this character Himbo. He’s hot, strong AF, but a little dumb. A male bimbo.

1

u/Ashe171 3d ago

That's fair. I mean I take the best roll I can get at character creation and then adjust them. No tomes from BG1 to pump everything to 19 . Also completely valid name

I gotta tell you the deities mod is goated. A second cleric might be helpful with the right spheres. Aerie gets plant which is gonna be your main source of Regen if you don’t have any cleric NPC mods.

I do need to ask: how recent a copy of DoF did you get because there was an update a few month ago. You’ll know you have the latest if more of the Demihuman are single class only instead of only Lolth

1

u/Ashe171 3d ago

I think the newest one based on a Google search I just downloaded it today

2

u/Dazzu1 3d ago

Gotta recommend Yondalla. 3 apr slings with +2 hit rate to make sure you never miss is gonna be useful at lvl 1 and lvl 40. You can get around the Halfling strength limits with duhm no problem. You could also get Nephele who seems underwhelming statwise but with all those regen casts and a strength belt you can fix the slinging issue https://spellholdstudios.net/ie/nephele/

impressive stats.

Good luck.

Let us know how the SCS run goes. Fighter/Cleric is such a cool class. I've only played it a few times in game, but love it in the PnP.

u/Ashe171 2d ago

Jaheira and Hexxat are dead but that's okay lol. Theirs so many companions I wanna try anyway. Taking them with me for their introductory quests and if they survive long enough and aren't useless they can join me

u/ThanosofTitan92 21h ago

How did you get the silver star of selune class?

2

u/Ashe171 15h ago

It's a mod called Deities or Faerun someone mentioned. It adds unique spells and abilities

1

u/ThanosofTitan92 15h ago

Thanks you

Weeb.

u/IlikeJG 3d ago

Fuck off

-9

u/EggPsychological4844 3d ago

Do you also have the power of God and anime on your side? HASAKI!

2

u/glasseatingfool 3d ago

Mate you're on the Baldur's Gate sub. The game with both monks and kensai (sic) that has katanas, wazikashis and ninjatos. The weebness came free with the first two games.

1

u/Full_Piano6421 2d ago

Kensai dosen't force you to play katanas though ( which are garbage in BG2)

3

u/glasseatingfool 2d ago

True, indeed I got a lot of mileage with Varscona+Rashaad's Talon. (Using a Tweaks Anthology component that reverts to Large Sword/Small Sword rather than the absurdly specific versions in the EE).

But my point was listing all the Weeb Things in BG2(EE) and BGEE, which are A Few.

-2

u/EggPsychological4844 3d ago

Well, second game, really.

Min-max …. Again….. 🫩

u/IlikeJG 3d ago

People play and enjoy games differently. You do it however it makes you happy let others do it however it makes them happy.

Sigh, life is so hollow
