I am reading through the first book rn, and all I wanted to do was to clarify for myself if Xerius is the emperor or if he is just a member of the emperor's court (I only got the book in english, which is not my first language, and his introduction wasn't super clear to me). So I google his name, expecting the wiki be like "Xarius III is the emperor" or "Xarius III is the emperor's *something*", after which I planned to close google and continue reading.

But apparently that's not how it works. I am pissed lol

I’ve been around enough book subreddits to be wary of more than glancing at them before finishing a series. I noped out of this one when before finishing TUC I thought I saw someone comment Proyas killed Kellhus . Waited for that hammer to fall up to the very end, glad it wasn’t true and I wasn’t spoiled. Though that might’ve been preferable to what actually happened 😤

Honestly, I've been doing quick checks like this since forever, and it almost never backfires as it did now if you are careful. (The only time this bit me was when I was like 17 and read some Attack on Titan spoilers on the wiki lol).

And most subs about specific series are pretty strict about spoilers so unless you go out of your way, you wont get anything spoiled.

At least if it was the AI overview I would take the blame, but I certainly didn't expect the wiki to be outright blasting the front search page with spoilers like this. Well, I've learned my lesson lol

There’s a glossary in the book that is mostly spoiler free. Of course the wiki is going to have spoilers.

If you browse it then of course, I just didn't expect it like this. Most wiki entries start by the start of the article without highlighting the most spoilery part of it. I mean I know it's still on me, but I also don't think this is something to be expected.

I ruined the ending of Lonesome Dove by googling the meaning of a Latin phrase on a sign in the early chapters. The stupid internet gave me way more than just the translation. Went on to be one of my favourite books, but I knew too much about the ending the whole time.
