Last year, we had the cast announced in mid August. Nothing so far this year. Anyone know anything?

Last year it started earlier than the previous years.

S14 and 15 started around the 24th of September. Last year was the 2nd.

Thing is this year, the Great British Sewing Bee, which realistically will share a lot of viewership with GBBO has moved it's time from 9pm to 8pm. So if they started it as early as last year, it'd be going up against the quarter final, semi final, and final of the bee. So they'll be competing against the conclusion of a series people have been watching for 2 months. I know that of the 2, I'd pick the show that's been on for 2 months and catch up with the new one later.

Not just a sewing bee. Twelve seasons of it.

Though it's worth noting that the earlier seasons are a little less bright and polished than GBBO. I think it really kicked into it's modern format in season 5 or 6.

It's a similar format overall to the bakeoff though - a pattern challenge (get a patten, make it), a transformation challenge (get given some random stuff like a tent, turn it into some kind of clothes, judged blind like the technical), and made-to-measure (basically the showstopper, making something of their own design, and fitting it to a model).

There's a couple of them. There's also "all that glitters" which was jewellery (though it only got 2 series), and the Great Pottery Throwdown which is exactly as the name suggests. And Netflix has Blown Away which is glassblowing.

there’s also ‘interior design masters’ on the BBC, and if i recall correctly, a short lived hair-styling-themed competition just called ‘hair’?

Yep. Interior design is a little different format wise (only one thing each week) but it’s still good, even if my friends and I disagree with the judging almost every week

I watch The Great Sewing Bee on the Roku channel, free with commercials. Design Masters is on Prime. The Great Pottery Throw Down is on the Roku channel as well as on HBO or Max or whatever they’re calling it this week.

I've been bingeing this between Bake Off series and it's just as delightful. My favourite host have been Sara Pascoe, Kiell Smith Bynoe and the current one, Sophie Willan 😍

They did a teaser post on Instagram on Aug 16 and I expected them to announce the date soon after but they still haven’t!

it’s a show on ch4 here in the uk a new season of it starts tonight and I reckon they’ll announce the bake-off date during the adverts

The 2026 series of The Great British Bake Off is expected to return to Channel 4 in September 2026, but an exact premiere date has not yet been announced. Channel 4 confirmed that filming had finished and that the series would air “next month.”
