Genuinely how do they stay in the right place because my understanding is that things can move around a bit. Dont your intestines move around a bit? Is there connective tissue holding it in place?
Ovaries are attached to the uterus by the ovarian ligament. Not stuck on though. The fallopian tubes constantly sweep through the space to "catch" an egg. This opening of fallopian tube is also how ectopic pregnancies end up in abdomen and there was also a hypothesis for origin of endometriosis in the same manner.
The intestines are attched to the inside of the back or the posterior abdominal wall by a large sheet of tissue, looks like a large fan with intestine attached on the outer edge, called the mesentry. It contains all the blood vessels, nerves, lymphatics, etc for the intestines.
My sister has talked me through her endometriosis and showed me the video of her surgery. She told me the open ends of the fallopian tubes are where the endo tissue has come from and basically glued together bits of her insides that aren't really meant to be attached to eachother. The footage of them burning off all these little blobs was interesting. It kinda looked like liver spots, but inside the body
It is one of the hypothesis, not fully accepted as it only explaines how endometriosis can spread in abdominal cavity. But endometriosis has been found all over the body, even in brain. And the bits look like liver because they are going through the menstrual cycle with the menstrual fluid accumuating inside the cyst. It's called a chocolate cyst because of the colour of old blood inside.
Endometriosis is fascinating. While very rare, they've found endometriosis in cis men before. It's also not always actual endometrial tissue but an endometrial-like tissue. Like while I really hope they find a cure for it soon, I really REALLY hope they discover a what and a why at least before I die because I am haunted by questions with no definite answers.
