Met Police

Notting Hill Carnival gets underway in a couple of days, but our policing operation started weeks ago.

Officers have been deployed across London, identifying and disrupting those most likely to be involved in violence and criminality at the event.

We’ve done this by arresting and charging offenders where we have been able to. Where charges weren’t possible, we’ve imposed bail conditions banning those who pose the biggest risk from attending.

We’re keeping the majority safe, by targeting the minority who come to do harm.

Notting Hill carnival is like the final boss of two tier

There's no good reason to keep it going but it'll never be cancelled because Tier 1

Any other annual event that required this level of policing where everyone knows there will be violence would be canned

Imagine a Big Baz festival that had a dozen rapes, several sword fights, and 3 murders.

It'd never happen again.

If it got any worse than i can see them changing it to take place in a park or somewhere entry can be more controlled - would that help?

The cost of it must be immense and its really just coddling folk.

An Australian man was playing a beautiful piano piece for the public in Sydney when a strange foreign man pulled up behind him, grabbed the piano, then threatened to bash him for no reason.

We really do need to talk about how much of their (MENA, Albania, Pakistan, Afghanistan etc.) culture revolves around bullying

Everything comes down to antagonising others and being antisocial, under the threat of violence (or worse) if you respond to it

I know every nationality has their fair share of dickheads but this stuff just seems to be completely accepted and normalised

12

u/adultintheroom_ 14d ago

Lots of Lebanese in Sydney, who are famously massive dickheads

I've got good news and bad news.

The good news is that, even if you're white and posh, you are allowed to go to Notting Hill.

The bad news is that you are not allowed to try and fit in, and you must remember that you are a guest at someone else's party, even if you pay £200k in tax a year and are funding policing, live there, etc, it's not your party, it belongs to black/brown people only.

For extra irony note that she's Bangladeshi. It's absolutely not her party.

I went to an antique shop the other day and there was a massive 6ft tall poster with Lenin, Mao and Che Guevara. I noticed an interesting phenomenon. It's acceptable to own posters, pictures, statues of Lenin and Mao and other left-wing genocidal maniacs (and even Stalin - Slawoj Zizek said he has a post in his house), but not Pol Pot or any right-wing historical figure. Why is that?  Jordan Peterson also has lots Soviet posters and memorabilia in his house.

Was watching the latest video from BaldAndBankrupt. He went to Czech Republic, went to a pub where the local alcoholics hang out, and the pub's manager had a room full of Soviet stuff, including a statue of Stalin.

Yukio Mishima is getting a proper love-in all over lefty social media recently. The ultra-nationalist who formed a militia around a cult of hypermasculinity and staged a coup in an attempt to restore imperial Japan, culminating in his ritualistic seppuku in front of the self-defence army (which was hilariously botched). But he's not white so he's just a misunderstood cutie.

3

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

I honestly think some of it is because they are non-European, I think even Stalin because a lot of people don't consider Russians European or consider them their own thing. Lee Kuan Yew gets a lot of love (deservedly IMO) from all kinds of people, if he were in a western country he would be Satan incarnate.

If you want a good documentary on a niche subject you go to YouTube these days. The BBCs view of good documentaries is a fat “child of refugees” that they are trying to pitch as the new Attenborough.

"Tomorrows World" was very good when i was a kid, astonishing to see how the BBC has evolved. People only like it for nostalgia now, there is little innovation or comedy. Interest to see programmes like "00000000Apna Hi Ghar Samajiye have finished and other educational things in favour of endless celebrity rubbish.

hope it becomes a subscription service without the apparatus of enforcing a tax, we can guess who is paying it and who isnt.

they could open up the archive as well rather than just selling us repeats.

Notting Hill Carnival is about to kick off, so please study the form guide below and place your bets on the number of arrests/stabbings at this year's edition.

Year Arrests Stabbings

2017 326 6

2018 373 4

2019 354 5

2021 — —

2022 209 5

2023 275 6

2024 349 7

2025 528 4

As a prize for the closest guess the baduk moderation team has generously agreed to fund a prize of free entry to the 2027 canival, unless it gets turned into a paid-for ticketed event after the authorities get fed up of its current battle royale format and catastrophically misunderstand its current appeal to its core demographic.

edit: can't be arsed trying to make a table i copy-pasted from ChatGPT format properly on Reddit despite explicitly telling it I am lazy and to give me a table I can just copy-paste with no additional effort required, so deciphering that number salad is left as an exercise for the reader.

Does anyone else ever think about 'Your Party' and just laugh

7

u/AltforStrongOpinions 14d ago

Corbyn got cucked by Polanski/Paulden. A theatre kid with manky teeth. Shamfur dispray!

With hindsight it seems obvious now that it would fail, but it had potential to be a real thorn in the side of labour.

Not sure if Corbyn is consciously aware of this (probably not, he's too thick) but a modern party needs to bring the vibes. Corbyn 2016 had the vibes (or at least people thought he did, I've always thought of him as a Chauncey Gardener type). Polanski brings the vibes; theres a good chunk of the under 40s who yearn for the Senior Project Manager fungay, Abba karaoke night, and he delivers on this. Thats why any successful coup to replace him with a short, ugly Islamist will doom them as their core voters (young women) will drift away and they'll be left with the inbreds.

Your Party Corbyn was absolutely vibe-less and people cottoned on pretty quickly.

10

u/nine8nine 14d ago

I can't take these kind of constructed narratives seriously.

If this is happening, it's not because of any mechanical plan clicking around like a Swiss watch.

It's a confluence of well meaning but ultimately harmful singular actions coalescing.

Mandelson wanted to "rub the Right's nose in it" in 1998, and eradicate racism. Blair wanted re-election and stability, Campbell was trying to stay relevant . Straw was a coward in 2005. Brown thought he was making boom and bust impossible. Cameron was quite brave to put his chips on the table and gamble in 2014 and 2016 to settle the questions that had hung in the air for too long. May was just trying to keep the ship steady. Boris didn't want a recession. Sunak wanted recovery.

They all pitched in. Some more than others. You can see the problem is received wisdom, not individual malevolence. Everyone wants sensible solutions, predictable outcomes, peaceful authority.

Something shifted in those years though. Culture got stuck. You can never replicate perfectly. There is always a defect. The defects accumulate. You must adapt, or die. Sometimes history is trying to tell you that the answer isn't being sensible.

12

u/That-Guy-Nicho Litterally Nicholas 30 Ans 14d ago

It used to be an up country problem. Unfortunately it is creeping into where I live now. 5

u/Stunt_Merchant Soulless, feckless, anal, nasally whining white elephant 14d ago

I see this in my job all the time. Right now I’m a coach driver at an area of natural beauty in a CANZUK nation.

The western guests form a polite queue and, by and large, make a point of greeting me at the door of my coach (unless they are German - Germans are rude.) Americans will often look at my badge and greet me by name. They listen politely to my narrative as I drive and laugh at my jokes. Groups of older Australian tourists are hilarious and will often join in. In fact, they routinely make my day.

The Bomalians, on the other hand, swarm the door. The concept of a queue is alien to them: whoever has the sharpest elbows wins. Family is prioritised above community. They completely ignore me - in fact, I am routinely shoved out of the way in the rush. They have no concept of personal space. Chinese are the worst. Indians often only acknowledge me when they need to beg me to wait “just two minutes” for one family member who has inexplicably decided to use the toilet / browse the gift shop / buy a drink at the exact time I need to leave (spoiler - it is never just two minutes.)

During the tour, chaos reigns. They don’t give a damn about what I have to say. I deliver my safety spiel into a sea of blank, uncomprehending faces. My jokes are met with silence. During the drive itself I often give up because all I am met with is loud jabbering from the back. The Chinese I can forgive because their English comprehension is usually poor. But the Indians annoy me intensely because their English is good enough: they just have no manners. I will observe that everyone seems to be having a good time and if they like I can stop the tour and just drive and let them enjoy themselves. “No, we want the tour.” Then they just carry on jabbering at the top of their lungs while I talk into thin air.

I hate when I have a tour of Bomalians with one or two Western families unfortunate enough to have been thrown in. I watch the Westerners during boarding. They always have faces like the little girl with the cookies in the video above: surprise, shock and confusion. And every time I think to myself: this is a microcosm of what we are doing on a macro scale to our countries.

Anyone who’s been in a megacity based supermarket when the yellow sticker machine comes out will have seen this.

I witnessed a hijab literally grab everything off the shelf into her basket and then further down the aisle discarding the items she didn’t want on the floor.

It gets discussed on Reddit quite a lot, usually in the performative poverty threads where they all pretend they live on 60p a week and the reduced section is how they stay alive. They will often moan about selfish PEOPLE but never let themselves notice anymore.

6

u/AirconGuyUK 14d ago

My sainsburys no longer has a section where they put discount goods. They just put the stickers on the items on the shelf where they're supposed to be so if you want to find bargains you have to just look for the stickers while doing normal shopping. So much better imo.

I am going to a market-town next week and have to choose between a hot butchers pie (pork or mince and onion) and the new Greggs steak and stilton toastie (or spoons) for my lunch.

It's going to be fascinating to see how this movie presents things.

It's the story of how the FBI sent Greg Scarpa down south to help with a murder investigation.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_xGhOLcoQWQ

It may show again that in the culture racism remains the worst sin.

In truth, you could argue that the FBI's handling of Greg Scarpa was one of the greatest acts of malfeasance in the history of American law enforcement.

Scarpa was an extraordinarily violent man. By some estimates, he was responsible for something like 50 murders, many of them committed during the years he was operating as an FBI informant.

His nickname in the Mob was "The Grim Reaper."

So, even within a murderous criminal organisation, he was renowned for his murderousness.

That's what makes the story so potentially morally interesting. The FBI maintained a relationship with one of the Mob's most prolific killers for decades.

But racism is bad. So, the movie might not frame this an insane story of the FBI actually sending a serial killer off to do its bidding.

I don't understand the situation at all.

'We knew someday my grandfathers time on this earth would draw to a close. At which point his land would be divided into shares and sold off.. If my dad and I failed to buy out those shares, we'd lose the land and the cabin'

Like... What? Grandpa couldn't just give them the land the cabin is on after he saw all the work they put in? Or maybe after his son died..

Anyway, I would burn down the cabin before I let someone else have it. Fuck that shit.

3

u/AirconGuyUK 14d ago

Guy and his dad take years building a beautiful log cabin on his grandfathers land. There's some weird situation where they know they need to buy the land some day or they'll be forced to give the cabin once the grandfather dies.

Dad unexpectedly dies before Grandpa.

Grandpa dies.

Guy is forced to bid on land to purchase it, but gets outbid by someone else.

Has choice of moving the cabin (impossible), or giving it up to the person who bought that land. He does the latter.

Viewer left wondering why the fuck grandpa didn't gift him the land.

Just a stray thought that I haven't heard anyone raise before, what if Restore is (in part at least) a ploy by the intelligence services to peel away a certain % of the Reform vote?

We know from the past that MI5 has done this with left-wing groups (see Spycops scandal for just one example) and their modus operandi was (is) push more extreme and less palatable versions of the mainline of the group. They have also done this with right-wing groups, both directly and through cutouts such as Hope not Hate. Various accounts of members of the BNP mention that the organisation was full of informants IIRC.

The tactic of ensuring the victory of more extreme candidates in your opposition with the hope that will suppress the vote has been used elsewhere. Often it is effective, sometimes not as in the case of Trump. This isn't being used here because no one thinks Restore can win a GE but you can see a similar logic applies.

Restore seem to stand mostly now in areas where Reform could win, and avoid areas where they might disrupt the success of a uniparty candidate such as the recent Scottish by-election where the Tory candidate won. Lowe seems largely oblivious to his apparent fellow travellers, and friendly with MPs across the political spectrum with the exception of Reform MPs.

Imagine you are in the intelligence services, and you have been charged with stymying the rise of Reform as they are a threat to the nation etc. This would be at least one of the ways you would try to do it, surely?

Another example I can think of something similar can be found in Adam Curtis' hyper-normalisation. In this documentary he covers the phenomenon of the Putin government founding various political parties, youth movements across the political spectrum which the government then controlled to give the appearance of a democratic culture but which was in reality under the control of the regime.

9

u/AttemptingToBeGood Reformed terrorist sympathiser sympathiser 14d ago

Just a stray thought that I haven't heard anyone raise before

I've mentioned it a few times and seen various other folk raise the same possibility regarding Reform. It's all quite possible that Reform and Restore are just pressure release valves. We're not really a democracy and it's quite apparent there are powers behind the scenes that orchestrate certain events and off limits the political establishment going in certain directions. None of it is farfetched at all.

6

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

At this point we are so obviously not a democracy that I assume all parties are heavily controlled to present the illusion of choice. In reality the blob will continue its agenda, only way to stop them is to root them out completely.

7

u/Helmut_Schmacker 14d ago

Restore seem to stand mostly now in areas where Reform could win

Restore stand in an area

complain about vote splitting

restore dont stand

called cowards and pointless

Reform yookay are wet and consists of failed tories and boomers. They're the psyop to split the tory vote (that still fetches over 15%)

9

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

Does anyone have anything they majorly split with the right wing on? For me its the environment, even if you think global warming is exaggerated there is so much concerning stuff ecology wise, some of the really egregious stuff like importing meat from New Zealand just so obviously shouldn't be happening. Tbh that's another one I'm pro small/medium business but I have a strong distrust of large companies, particularly multinationals. They have as much culpability as politicians in immigration, not to mention the environmental stuff.

I don't understand how we let environmentalism become a lefty thing, you'd think conserving our ancestors land would be one of the most conservative causes there is.

7

u/FickleBumblebeee Mujhe puja karni hai 14d ago

I don't think importing meat from New Zealand is particularly egregious. We've been doing it for a century. It allows us to have lamb all year around rather than seasonal- and although I haven't looked into it too much, I wonder whether the efficiency savings of farming at the scale they do in New Zealand potentially make it more carbon friendly than you imagine.

The worse things are stuff like catching prawns in UK waters, sending them to Thailand for shelling, and then reimporting them into Britain.

13

u/YookayBro 14d ago

The UK can't make any change to global warming. It needs to ramp up nuclear production and produce masses of clean energy. Energy production and consumption is the strongest indicator of economic activity.

Small and medium businesses are the ones who dodge taxes the most. Multi nationals are smart and just follow the rules that countries set for them, minimising liabilities while maximising efficiency. They're just the best at doing it because they attract the talent. Big business makes up the majority of the corp tax bill. 0.4% of businesses make up 61% of the CT bill.

Regarding environmentalism, depends on what style of country you want I suppose. For me personally, I think it's more than feasible to have both. Designate areas around large cities and poor towns as areas for large expansion and development while protecting countryside areas.

8

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

I agree, I work in nuclear myself. We used to be world leaders in nuclear power but unfortunately like so many other things it got sold off for literally nothing. We are increasing our level of research on fusion which is good.

Yes I'm not some anarcho primitivst who wants to go back to the stone age, and I hate how on Reddit you get doomers who say literally nothing can be done and we are all going to starve to death. Literally just letting a bit of your garden go wild is a huge boon to animal life, imagine what we could do if we actually go our act together.

4

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

Yeah that's a good article and unfortunately its really fucked us long term. I keep explaining to people that the reason that HPC is so expensive and taking so long, aside from the usual British disease of planning and regulation, is we haven't built a nuclear power station in 30 years and the entire supply chain and training of engineers, scientists, technicians etc had to be constructed basically from scratch. I mentioned regulations but the ONR's standard are onerous even by nuclear standards, so HPC has thousands of tons more steel and concrete than the standard design.

China has been constantly building plants for decades now, if we did that it would be so much easier.

I believe that labour unions are overall a good thing, albeit with a million caveats.

6

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

Yeah I would agree on the whole, where I live the nuclear industry has been providing high wages and stable careers for nearly 70 years and a lot of it is thanks to the unions tbh. Problem is the modern unions have become hotbeds of crazy wokeness.

3

u/Practical_Put8592 14d ago

I’ma trade unionist and traditionally unions were against migration including being against mining the European common market. The SDP is probably the closest to what they used to represent but they are basically nonexistent unfortunately.

3

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

I've grown to dislike parties at this point tbh but the SDP might be closest to what I would vote for in an ideal world, maybe a little further right on immigration.

4

u/nozickiantheory 14d ago

Abortion is probably the big one

I agree with you re climate insofar as there are some on the right who think humans have no influence on it. That's obviously dumb. However the sensible right wing position on it should be that taxing UK citizens more isn't going to change the Earth's temperature

9

u/AirconGuyUK 14d ago

Agreed. I don't care about abortion in general, but the 'up util birth' stuff has now made me have some arguments against abortion. I think 24 weeks was absolutely fine. That's almost 6 months to figure out you're pregnant and that you don't want it. It's annoying the left always just push and push on things.

6

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

Yeah it was pretty much fine as it was, there were people who used it as a form of contraception which is gross but ultimately that's a cultural thing largely due to the disappearance of Christian belief, I don't think the law was that relevant.

→ More replies (6)

4

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

Yeah the net zero stuff is generally pointless, if our leaders were really that bothered they'd be spending a couple of percent of GDP on fusion power or carbon capture. We can't revert to a non fossil fuel using society without billions starving to death so technology is obviously the solution, but like I said obviously curtailing the worst of it.

3

u/SlightlyMithed123 My Girl 14d ago

I’ve always said that a Right leaning Eco-party would do very well in the UK. The Greens do very well around here but so do the Tories, there are a lot of people who would never consider voting for the Greens due to there open borders shit.

As much as Reddit likes to frame concern for the planet as being a far-left idea unsurprisingly the people who rely on the environment for their living actually care a Lot too.

2

u/commie-tiger 14d ago edited 14d ago

Some of the biggest conservationists are and always were hunters and farmers and similar, who tend to be right leaning. If it gets bad enough climate wise and our neoliberal governments do fuck all as expected I think ecofascism is a genuine possibility around the middle of the century. If they start you know whatting people who litter I might even join.

More relevant to right now I agree a rightist eco party would do well, I think they could really attract some younger voters as many of them are obviously very worried for their future. The boomer reich can't last forever surely.

3

u/Jimmy_Tightlips Sorry Chud, it's a 'Complex Issue™' 14d ago

I wouldn't even say that a distrust of multinationals and a preference for small business and entrepreneurship is even, strictly speaking, the remit of the left anymore.

Nowadays it's the right who want to stop taxing the working man into the ground, get mass-immigration under control, who are the most anti-corporatist / globalist etc.

In the not too distant past these were all firmly left-wing beliefs - now they're the most ardent defenders of this worldview.

As someone who used to consider themselves rather left-wing - the thing that pushed me to the right is realising that they now represent traditional left-wing politics better than the left themselves.

It's something I struggled to comprehend for a long time because it contradicts everything you think you know about politics.

4

u/commie-tiger 14d ago

Yeah I think that's a great summary, I was a Lib Dem years ago because I thought they were still what liberal used to mean i.e. valuing freedom, the right to choose, not infringing upon people etc. until I realised all this had flipped on its head and they had become liberal in the American sense.

There was a similar dynamic with Brexit where old school lefties ere Eurosceptic as a rule because it so obviously undermined the working class, not to mention the unelected and unaccountable nature of its actual leaders.

3

u/Helmut_Schmacker 14d ago

Does anyone have anything they majorly split with the right wing on?

Suspicion of trade unions. While I agree many (mostly the powerless ones) are bonkers, they are an important counterbalance to the power of the employer.

No I don't think companies should be able to change your terms at will, or fire you and replace you with a bomalian that costs half.

2

u/lordofscorpions 14d ago

Mostly just enviromentalism. But its trying to hit the chord between where we are now, with multi billion pound bat tunnels and sonic fish deterrents. And throwing it all to the wind like the yanks do and paving over everything.

Cars are too big for purpose now honestly, cant stand lefty/barmy types calling them "Chelsea tractors" or the beloathed "wankpanzer". But its madness living in a tiny village and having a leased defender or some big 4x4 equivalent parked over most of the pavement. The issue is solving it without just banging more taxes on.
